Hi, I'm trying to delete an Address Book Policy that has been created in Office 365, but it won't allow me as it's still assigned to users. What PowerShell command can I use that will remove the Policy for all my users, or users with a specific attribute set. The address book policy "ABP_Students" Custom Attribute 1 for these users is set to "students" to easily pull them out... also "Department" for these users is set to "students" Many Thanks Matt

I've had a bit of success today on this and got it working! After a number of phone calls to Apple, it turns out that when the Apple TV is first booted up, it checks in with the Apple Time Server (time.apple.com or time.euro.apple.com) this MUST go straight out to the internet using port 123. I spoke to our LEA, who have configured a rule on our firewall for access to Port 123 for the sites time.apple.com and time.euro.apple.com, so now, when the Apple TV is switched on, it can do a time check with the Apple server, and then it can use the Internet using the proxy settings that were installed using the profile with Configurator. So, if anybody else is having the issue, ask your LEA if they can add a rule on your firewalls to allow direct access to the Apple Time Servers on port 123 Hope it helps a few of you out! Matt

Are you aware of something on the way?? I'd sacrifice having to put the whole domain name in if we were able to customise the Microsoft Portal Page to use for login!! We have got a DNS entry already setup that takes us to our ADFS login page to access Office 365 rather then then the Microsoft Portal Thanks Matt
-
Main reason for the ADFS was, at the time of initial setup, Password Sync was not available, so users would have had to have an over complex password to login to Office 365, I am aware of the new Password Sync feature of Dir Sync that would now overcome this issue. The other reason behind using ADFS Forms authentication was that we were able to personalise our login page with the school name/logo branding, information etc, something I don't think is yet possible with the Microsoft Login page? The other reason was our domain name is fairly long, @llanfyllin-hs.powys.sch.uk - so using the ADFS method meant that users only had to enter the username before the "@" sign, which is how the previous email system was setup and what users were use to. IF your able to tell me that it's entirely possible to do all what I've mentioned without needing ADFS then I would love to drop out ADFS server and run purely with the Microsoft Logon servers!! Thanks Matt
-
Hi James... Our ADFS sounds like it's setup like yours... Just the 1 server, with Forms-Based authentication. We don't use Single Sign On in school... so users always get the form based login page when they access the services. I will contact support about it. Thanks Matt

We can't seem to log into the new OWA iOS app either when using ADFS on our tenant. Anybody else got issues/problems trying to access the apps? Still can't access Lync or Skydrive and now OWA Thanks Matt

PSA: Address book policies in Office 365 :)
mattpant replied to jamesbmarshall's topic in Cloud Services
Can anybody help me out on this one please... I've created 2 Address Book Policy's... 1 for Students and 1 for Staff The students get a policy which only gives them a "Students" address list, a room, an Offline and Global Address book The staff get's a policy which allows them to see 2 address lists, 1 with all the staff and another for all the students, along with a room, offline and global etc... Now, when a teacher logs into their mailbox, and click on address books, they see the two lists (Students and Staff) if they click a user in the staff lists, they can see the contact details on the card, E-mail address etc, but If they bring up a user on the pupils list and click on contact, nothing show up, only the name, no email address etc. Why?? Thanks Matt -
Firstly... Is there a forum section on Edugeek directly for app's?? Couldn't find one, so posted in here. The head has asked if there is such an App for iOS (iPad) where he can have loaded into it a floor plan of the school site, he would then like to take photos, and link them to areas on the floor plan, maybe like some kind of Mindmapping links etc. Basically, the idea is, as he's walking the school and see things that need attention, i.e. Handle broken, fencing damage etc he would like to take a snapshot, pin it to the floor plan, so there caretaker/business manager can see the damage needing repair and the location. Any ideas of anything available that could be used to do this. I know taking photos on a iPhone has GeoTagging and will show up on a world map, but this needs to be on a custom imported map. Thanks Matt

I'd be interested in seeing some examples to please if anybody has some they are willing to share! Thanks, Matt

OK, so we are running A2 Plan, which would explain why we can't use the Office Mobile App for iOS, but it doesn't explain why we can't access the Lync or Skydrive App using an ADFS login, Skydrive works OK when using a non ADFS account and I can't get Lync to work at all! Cheers Matt
-
I've just tried again using the Skydrive Pro for Office 365 App and it will not let me login to it using an ADFS account, using a non- ADFS account is fine! Any ideas?!? There are no options on the Apps login screen other than username and password! I've also tried the Lync app making sure the Sip address / username / UPN etc are all correct and it won't log anyone in! Any ideas? Thanks Matt

Hi Guys, Has anybody got anywhere with this issue? I'm trying to set the proxy using a profile created in Configurator on the MacBook and sync'ed to the Apple TV, I'm getting the same issue as AV_IT_ mentioned where by I have to set up the device using a non-proxied Internet connection to set the time, I then connect to the mac to download the profile, sometime the Internet proxy then works after a restart (sometimes it doesn't) but then went its switched off and back on it just won't connect to the Internet, as if its loosing the proxy settings! The profile still shows as being installed under the general menu on the Apple TV, and my WiFi settings are still in place, so it's connected to the school network. I've today spoken to Apple who have said it sounds like its faulty and have said to get it swapped out with a replacement, but I've got my doubts on it being faulty!! Any news or fixes/solutions would be great! Thanks Matt

Hi, I have Office 365 setup with ADFS for authentication. I have tried logging into the new iOS apps that have been released for Office 365 / SkyDrive / Lync etc but I am unable to connect to any of them. Is there something in place that doesn't allow you to use these Apps if you are running ADFS? If so, are there any work arounds or are Microsoft addressing the issue? Thanks Matt
-
Thanks... But if I try running the commands at home without going out thr any LEA filters/firewalls I can connect no problem, just not in school!
-
Hi, The windows firewall is not enabled on these computers, but I've been into the settings to check the public profile and made changes, but I still get the same error so I'm guessing it's something on the LEA's level of filtering / firewall that's blocking the connection. Is there anything else I can do to narrow this down, or find out exactly where abouts it's stopping? Thanks, Matt

Hello, When I try and connect to PowerShell (As an Admin) for Exchange commands in school I get the following:- New-PSSession : [ps.outlook.com] Connecting to remote server ps.outlook.com failed with the following error message : WinRM cannot complete the operation. Verify that the specified computer name is valid, that the computer is accessible over the network, and that a firewall exception for the WinRM service is enabled and allows access from this computer. By default, the WinRM firewall exception for public profiles limits access to remote computers within the same local subnet. For more information, see the about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help topic. Does anybody know what might be needed to be put in place to allow this to work? Is there any kind of Network Connectivity test tool for PowerShell like there is for Office 365? Thanks Matt

PSA: Address book policies in Office 365 :)
mattpant replied to jamesbmarshall's topic in Cloud Services
I've created an address book policy for our students using Office 365, the address book policy is setup to "hide" all school staff from the address list that the students use. I've setup in our AD an attribute (extensionAttribute1) with the content set as "students" which syncs to the cloud to allow me to filter the students out and apply the address book policy to. When I setup new students in my AD, which will get sync'ed over to Office 365, is there a way to automate the assignment of the address book policy, based on the content of "extensionAttribute1" , or will I have to manually assign this each time new users are created with the PowerShell commands? Many Thanks, Matt -
I applied the "new" patch (18205) a little earlier and tried logging into SIMS afterwards, and so far so good! I managed to get further than I was able to after installing patch 18180!
-
Our LEA support officer logged the call with Capita about our issue, and he got back to me to say that Capita have now withdrawn the 18180 patch due to the problem that I had mentioned at the start of this topic, it appears that it has now been replaced by patch 18205, which I have just remote VPN'ed onto our server to apply it. Fingers crossed this works! I am starting to get a little annoyed to the fact that we do seem to be becoming Capita's official unofficial beta testers for these updates, in that they release the updates and patches and push them our into "real" working enviroments, in the hope it all works well, but knowing we will be "fully testing" the software and can report the problems back to them!
-
Exactly as matt40k said... I used the dbattach tool, logged in as user "sa" and at the bottom of the screen it said restore database, I entered the database name "SIMS" and selected the backup file from the Program Files \ SQL \ Backup folder Hopefully you won't need to do that tho! I've not seen any other mention of this error so no idea why it failed or us! Good luck! Matt
-
Thank God for the automated SIMS backup file SOLUS3 created in the SQL Backup directory!! I've restored the backup file and I can get back into the system. But obvioulsy pre 18180 patch!! Could do with finding out tho why our system wouldn't take it! Thanks Matt
-
HELP!!! I've just patched our SIMS system using SOLUS3 with 18180, patch seemed to install with no issues, but now SIMS keeps crashing as soon as we log in, so can't use it!! We get the following:- Fault Code 8280-9389-4000 Cannot Find Table 8. : System.IndexOutOfRangeException Then on the more details tab:- at System.Data.DataTableCollection.get_Item(Int32 index) at SIMS.UserInterfaces.MyTimeline.refreshTimeline() at SIMS.UserInterfaces.TimelineWidget.BackgroundWorkerCompleted(Object sender, RunWorkerCompletedEventArgs e) at System.ComponentModel.BackgroundWorker.OnRunWorkerCompleted(RunWorkerCompletedEventArgs e) at System.ComponentModel.BackgroundWorker.AsyncOperationCompleted(Object arg) Search for Solution brings up no results!!! HELP!!! We have no access to SIMS or Timetables / Registers etc at the mo! Thanks Matt

Thanks Mako, I did find the drivers on the Lenovo website, but they didn't seem to work, I even tried extracting the files from the setup files and still no luck! - I will give it another shot tho! I've also tried using something similar to driver pack and again no luck. Thanks for the posting the information tho... Matt
