Thanks for all the replies soo far... I'm still at a slight loss of what to do! I've printed out the manual tonight for the switches to see what it says... I might try with one area of the school first (or one IT Suite) and see how I get on. Do I need to do anything special to the servers/printers as I would need all VLANS to be able to see and connect to these machines. Thanks Matt

Hi All... I know there are many posts on this topic, but all seem to be a little confusing and seem to be a million and one different answers to the same kind of questions, so appologies up front for another post on this topic... Half Term is here so I am wanting to setup some VLANS in our school to try and reduce the amount of broadcast/network traffic going around the place... whee should I start?!? The majority of our network switches are the D-Link DGS Series (1248T/1224T and 1216T) We have one flat vanilla network at the mo... We have Network Data Projectors in the classrooms, that allow the staff to connect their tablet PC's wirelessly (Some projectors have Cat5 Network leads connected to them, some are wireless, they are all the same type of projector, all staff access the network wirelessly using Ruckus Wireless) We have 4 main IT rooms, a 6th Form study room and a library suite. We have an admin server that has SIMS installed on it and, Curriculum server which does all the Grou Policys/Print Server/DNS/DHCP etc etc for everybody and a storage server that has all the home drives/share drives etc for Staff and Pupils How should I plan for a VLAN with this setup? Should I create a VLAN for each IT Room? Should I create a VLAN for all IT Rooms together? Should I create a VLAN for all the Network Projectors? How would this work if some were on the wireless network? Any pointers would be great... and please let me know if you require any further info about our setup for this to work... Staff would need access to, Curriculum Server/Admin (SIMS) Server and Storage Server... Pupils only need to be able to see Curriculum and Storage Server... Cheers Matt

Ahhh OK... Weird... must be conflicting with some other setup/software/driver on these machines of ours then

Would be intrested to know how you got on with the 755's 760's....

Thanks Guys for the replys, The machines are Dell Optiplex 755 USFF, and 760 USFF, they are Windows XP SP3 (And all Patches) The machines are not showing any sign of a BSOD, they boot up, sit on the logon screen for about 10 seconds max, then just restart. I don't think doing what you suggested "timzin" is going to work in this case, as the machines are not staying on log enought for this setting to reach the clients as they just restart again.... I've just been around the rooms and some of the machines have started doing it again, the GPO hadn't kicked in where I changed the scheduled install time from 10AM... I also setup a script to delete all the contents from C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\ folder. The machines that I have restarted and gone back into down appear to be showing KB2393802 as an update at the moment, but it didn't yesterday until later on in the day. Flaming updates!!!
-
I've checked the C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\ folder on the local machines, and deleted all the contents in the hope it was picking it up from the local folder to install... but thats made no difference, the machines still pop up saying it's got Windows Updates ready to install!! Where is it getting this file from?!?!

Hi, I did see your earlier post... We are not seeing any sign of a blue screen on our machines, it just sits on the logon screen (or you can start to login) then it will just restart, within about 20-30 seconds and go around in a circle. I manually went around each machine today and uninstalled all the updates that were installed today (since found out that it's KB2393802 which is causing our problem) What's worrying me is that I have declined the updates on the WUS server (all updates with todays date, which included KB2393802), but when I looked in Event Viewer after I'd uninstalled them from the machines, it's now showing that they are sitting there waiting to be installed again tomorrow! So I fear I'm going to hit the same problem tomorrow after 10AM (When it's due to install) Is this because the patches are still sitting in a folder on the computer... if so where? And can I remove these files before they get installed, so it will never pick them upagain?!?!? This is only on our Dell machines, we have Fujitsus, Acers, HP's and unbranded which don't seem to be affected. We are using Windows XP on all the machines, KB2393802 has many variations, Vista/Server 2003/XP, but I've declined the ot for now. Thanks Matt

Hi... Hope somebody can help me.... today are systems received a load of new updates from our WUS server, a good number of our machines (about 100 of them) which were all Dells decided that they didn't like KB2393802 The machines do an automatic install of updates at 10:00AM, once these machines had installed this update, and restarted, that's all they kept doing, get to the logon screen and keep restarting. I jumped onto the WUS server and Declined any updates from today (which included the KB2393802, went around every machine with the problem and uninstalled the Security Patch from them, this fixed the problem! However, I'm a little concered, looking at the event logs on some of these machines that they show that KB2393802 has been downloaded to the machines and is scheduled to install at 10AM tomorrow.... WHY?!?!? I don't want another repeat of today!!!! Help!!!!! What can I do?!?!? Thanks Matt

Hi Folks... Thank you Kevin for getting LanView 4 (and MST) back on track! It's a great program! I have updated my machines so they are running LanView4 Client, along with LanView 4 Server on my machine... and remote desktop viewing (and controlling) with UltraVNC is working fine. I did donate and was given access to slideshow viewer program which was great, but since installing LanView 4 it no longer seems to work... is there anyway I can get this working again with Version 4 (or anything else that will work alongside UltraVNC to allow a similar thing) It was very handy to see all student monitors at the front displaying on the projector... it helped stop lots of them playing games in the background when the teacher wasn't looking! Kind Regards, Matt

They've got a nerve!! Our staff registered over 2 years ago and not one person has received their Free USB Stick! I've phoned them up on numerous occassions and been told that due to popular demand they were out of stock, we would be next on the list to be dispatched, then there was a problem with something on the stick, then out of stock again!! It's a Joke! - The best of it is I get regualr e-mails from them now saying "We hope your enjoying your free USB Stick" etc etc! So Mr Director of Memory 4 Teachers, if you are reading this, then please can you send us 80 x USB Memory sticks for all our staff!!! PM me and I will send you our school address to ship to, many thanks ;-)

Hi, I'm using the Joomla 1.5 Template, I wish to add a new menu item to our MainMenu section, but as it fills up, it spills onto another line. How can I change the formatting of the main menu so I can make it fit on one line, or tidy it up. There is quite a bit of wasted "White Space" to the right of our school logo that could be used. I've uploaded a screenshot to try and show/explain. Thanks Matt

Hi Stuart, I've got the log files all together, all zipped up in a folder along with a copy of the site plan where the access points are placed. What e-mail address can I send them to for you to get at? Do you want to private message me the details. Thanks Again, Matt

Stuart, We have 2 SSID's broadcasting, 1 is our Main Access that All Staff use, it's setup with WPA2 PSK Encryption, the other is a Hidden Guest Access SSID, with open access, which nobody is connected to, I set it up for testing out ACL's so users can only access the internet and nothing else. We are using the 7962 Access Points and the ZoneDirector 1000. We have 19 Access Points in use and they are spread evently between channels 1, 6 and 11 when I look at the Web Console Dashboard. The 5GHZ channels are again spread between Channels:- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Currently Managed APs MAC Address Device Name Description Model Status Mesh Mode IP Address VLAN Channel Clients Action 00:25:c4:1d:4f:30 AP01 zf7962 Connected Disabled 172.16.247.1 100 (11a/n-40), 1 (11g/n-20) 8 CLI 00:25:c4:1d:4b:20 AP02 zf7962 Connected Disabled 172.16.247.2 104 (11a/n-40), 11 (11g/n-20) 4 CLI 00:25:c4:1d:4d:c0 AP03 zf7962 Connected Disabled 172.16.247.3 108 (11a/n-40), 6 (11g/n-20) 2 CLI 00:25:c4:1d:5c:40 AP04 zf7962 Connected Disabled 172.16.247.4 112 (11a/n-40), 11 (11g/n-20) 3 CLI 00:25:c4:1d:5e:60 AP05 zf7962 Connected Disabled 172.16.247.5 116 (11a/n-40), 1 (11g/n-20) 4 CLI 00:25:c4:1d:4c:b0 AP06 zf7962 Connected Disabled 172.16.247.6 120 (11a/n-40), 1 (11g/n-20) 9 CLI 00:25:c4:1d:53:00 AP07 zf7962 Connected Disabled 172.16.247.7 124 (11a/n-40), 6 (11g/n-20) 4 CLI 00:25:c4:1d:53:30 AP08 zf7962 Connected Disabled 172.16.247.8 128 (11a/n-40), 1 (11g/n-20) 4 CLI 00:25:c4:1d:52:d0 AP09 zf7962 Connected Disabled 172.16.247.9 132 (11a/n-40), 11 (11g/n-20) 6 CLI 00:25:c4:1d:4f:b0 AP10 zf7962 Connected Disabled 172.16.247.10 136 (11a/n-40), 6 (11g/n-20) 1 CLI 00:25:c4:1d:54:a0 AP11 zf7962 Connected Disabled 172.16.247.11 140 (11a/n-20), 6 (11g/n-20) 7 CLI 00:25:c4:1d:57:e0 AP12 zf7962 Connected Disabled 172.16.247.12 100 (11a/n-40), 11 (11g/n-20) 3 CLI 00:25:c4:1d:50:d0 AP13 zf7962 Connected Disabled 172.16.247.13 104 (11a/n-40), 6 (11g/n-20) 5 CLI 00:25:c4:1d:4c:40 AP14 zf7962 Connected Disabled 172.16.247.14 104 (11a/n-40), 11 (11g/n-20) 4 CLI 00:25:c4:1d:53:50 AP15 zf7962 Connected Disabled 172.16.247.15 108 (11a/n-40), 11 (11g/n-20) 3 CLI 00:25:c4:1d:51:60 AP16 zf7962 Connected Disabled 172.16.247.16 132 (11a/n-40), 11 (11g/n-20) 5 CLI 00:25:c4:24:ac:60 AP17 zf7962 Connected Disabled 172.16.247.17 100 (11a/n-40), 1 (11g/n-20) 3 CLI 00:25:c4:24:af:90 AP18 zf7962 Connected Disabled 172.16.247.18 116 (11a/n-40), 6 (11g/n-20) 4 CLI 00:25:c4:24:a2:90 AP19 zf7962 Connected Disabled 172.16.247.19 108 (11a/n-40), 6 (11g/n-20) 7 Thanks, Matt

Hi Stuart, Yes we are running Version 8.2.2.0 build 7 on the ZoneDirector (ZD1000) I've tried the very latest driver and the previous Intel 5100 Driver, same problem. I think that it maybe some kind of interference from other Ruckus AP's, but the system is setup to manage any interference/ change channels / power levels etc. Something weird is going on. It's not just from updating to this latest firmware either, we have had problems from previous firmwares and each time an update comes out I install it on our system hoping it will make things better! What’s the ideal setup on the actual Intel Card Drivers for the Ruckus systems? I've played around with Power Management and Aggressiveness etc Any idea when Firmware 8.3 is due out and what new features we will find? Thanks Matt
-
This is weird... we have been having the exact same problems, been happening for many many months in a certain part of the school, I've spent 2 hours after school tonight trying all sorts of things, moving access points about, connecting them to different switches etc etc. I am now running the latest Firmware that was put on the Ruckus Website in the last few days, our Wireless Clients are Interl WiFi 5100 AGN cards, again running the latest Drivers. We use Wireless Projectors and causes major problems with disconnections. Any pointers would be great cos I'm stumped! Thanks Matt

We have had the same problem now for over 12 months, our support has now run out and I refused to pay for another 12 months until I am happy that the product WILL WORK for us. I have phoned them a number of times now and insist that we are the ONLY site that is still having problems since "The Fix" in V. 3.0.0.9, but we are clearly not. Have other schools reported the issues they are having to Forensic Software? Our machines have been constanly crashing and locking when trying to use the internet, it also started crashing in other programs like Office Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) I totally unistalled the software from one suite of computers and since doing so I have not had a single issue! Maybe I need to do it to the rest of them computers in school! Does anybody know of an alternative piece of software that will do the same as Policy Central or Similar, THAT WILL WORK?? The Screenshots is the big thing really. Thanks Matt

Thanks Stuart, I've set the log file now to "Show More" so will keep an eye out for what crops up. I had heard that this was a "known issue" and was something to do possibly with a Windows Update and the Intel WiFi cards, they can't make up there mind if they should be on 2.4GHz or 5GHz, the last Ruckus Firmware update should have fixed the issue, but it hasn't. Cheers Matt

Hi Guys, We have a Ruckus managed wireless network in place, We have 1 x ZD1000 with 20 x ZF7962 Access Points. We also have a number of NEC Network Projectors installed in the Classrooms (NEC NP901W). I'm having a number of teachers telling me that they often get "disconnected" from the projector, when this happens a message pops up on the projector saying "An Error in the Network Occured" and the screen just displays the last image sent, until it reconnects, this can be anything from a few seconds to 10-15 Minutes. I think the problem lies with the Ruckus Wireless and the staff machines loosing connection so the software can no longer talk to the projector, I've looked in Event Viewer on the machines and I notice alot of the following:- Source - TCPIP Event - 4201 The system detected that network adapter Intel®...Link 5100 AGN - Packet Scheduler Miniport was connected to the network, and has initiated normal operation over the network adapter. The drivers for the Intel WiFi are the latest from the Intel Website (13.1.1.1), and our firmware on the Ruckus Wireless is again the latest from the Ruckus Website (Version 8.2.1.0 build 21) I don't really know where I should start now... Any ideas, help or tips. The client doesn't appear to be loosing a connection to the network, although it may be so quick or short that we don't notice and it's just enought to disconnect the projectors. We are using PSK-WPA2 security on our AP's Thanks Matt

Hi, I posted about this on the Ruckus Support Forum and had this message back. I have had users report to me that since upgrading the firmware to 8.2 they have experienced dropouts when connecting to our Wireless Projectors in school. I e-mailed the support address and they were hoping that if all the test's go to plan, then the 8.2 MR1 will be out by the end of the week, so here's hoping today then sometime!! Hope that helps, Matt

RUCKUS help - Guest access & the internet via Proxy
mattpant replied to jamin100's topic in Wireless Networks
Yeah, I've also got it running for Guests using the WPAD.DAT file which is dished out from DHCP. Seems to be working well, Guest users can't access anything they shouldn't, but I would be happier if the ZoneDirector could manage a seperate DHCP scope for guest users based on the SSID name so it was all seperate. Maybe in the furture an update will allow this. Matt -
Hi, I have got DOCMan (1.4) installed on our Joomla setup, I have downloaded the Welsh language translations and that's working fine, I can translate the Document titles/category names easily with Joom!Fish, however I can't find a way of being able to attach a different file to download to the Welsh Language side then the English. What I would like is when "English" is selected, you download the English file and when "Welsh" is selected you download the "Welsh" version of the file. My work around at the mo is just uploading a Bi-Lingual version of the file, but ideally to make it neater I would like the 2 files separate. I've searched the net and the DocMan forums and can't seem to find anything. Has anyone else here had experience of DocMan in a Multi-Lingual environment? Thanks Matt
