Thanks for the links, kinda what I'm after, but think it needs to look a bit better! More of a Wow Factor to it! This is to fill quite a large area on some screens around the school, not just a little section on a website. Any other links or counters people have seen? i'm thinking off something more on the lines of the examples shown in this link http://www.wishafriend.com/countdown/fun/ but these can only be setup for a certain date, and can't specify a specific time on a date. Would it be hardwork (Not having any background using flash) to create something like this myself? Cheers, Matt

Hi Everyone, I would like to create some kind of countdown (java)script? Or Flash file that will countdown to the school holidays. Something that I can easily modify at the start of a new term etc to allow for new countdown date. I want to use it to display on the digital signage around the school. With some kind of countdown showing, Days/Hours/Minutes/Seconds etc to a certain time on a certain date. In our first case this will be 15:25 on the 9th Febrary. I have found similar scritps on Internet Sites to put onto MySpace style profiles, but they only seem to work to Midnight and unable to change the time. It would also be nice to change the countdown to something like "Enjoy the School Holidays" once the countdown has reached the time. Any pointers or tips ?? Cheers, Matt

Hi Ranj, I also saw that stand at BETT, the Scottish chap, Raphael gave to a demo of it, looked nice and simple to use, but the screen layout (like the clock and the ticker tape) I thought looked a bit tacky! I failed to see any other stands offering similar solutions thought. Matt

Hi Guys, I'm heading down to the show on Friday and Saturday. Would be nice to see... if possible, a working demo of the Microsoft Sharepoint Services that can be installed Free Of Charge. Being able to work on and share documents between staff, also designing forms etc that staff can fill out online (using something like infopath) and submit the infomation back to a central database. I think all that can be done with Sharepoint Services?????? Cheers, Matt

Hi Norphy, I've also been playing around with it some more today and solved the problem (Just not had a chance untill now to post a reply!!) I found the exact same thing as you said, but I went the full whack and entered in \\DOMAIN.local\sysvol\DOMAIN.local\scripts\Script.vbs As soon as I entered that Hey Presto it worked!!! Simple really when you know! I wonder why it didn't like \\CURRICULUM\NETLOGON\SCRIPT.VBS cos it's the same thing... in theory!!! Thanks anyway for all your help and pointers!!!! Regards, Matt

Sorry, \\curriculum\NETLOGON is already added and I also added \\curriculum\NETLOGON\scritp.vbs I will try tommorrow adding cscript.exe as allowed. Thanks for you help guys Matt

Hi Guys, I've got a PowerPoint presentation that I run as a basic digital signage system here at school. I was wondering if anybody knows if it is possible to insert a "RockYou" style photo slideshow, which will zoom and fade around a series of images I enter into it, Like you find on MySpace profiles, within a slide in the PowerPoint Presentation. http://www56.rockyou.com/ Regards, Matt

The logon script is located in \\curriculum\NETLOGON I've added this as allowed, and also added \\curriculum\NETLOGON\Script.vbs as being allowed. I have a pupils.bat file in the logon script that runs OK after adding the path to allowed, I still seem to get the error about the Windows Scipt Host not running. Cheers, Matt

Thanks Norphy, I added the variable %userprofile% and it worked! I can now open up the icons and run the programs no problem, but I still get the error about not being able to run the Windows Scrip Host? Any ideas why? Also, why would opening Word/Excel start working as soon as I added the %userprofile% section? I can see light at the end of this dark tunnel!!!! Regards, Matt....

This is really strarting to annoy now!!! It's still not behaving!!! I've added them .exe's as Hash files and also added in the path to wscript.exe as unrestricted but they still won't allow me to run!!! The settings were already in place for the following:- %HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SystemRoot% %HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SystemRoot%*.exe %HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SystemRoot%System32\*.exe and not removed. OK I've removed the .lnk from the banned extensions list and it still won't let me click and open the Office applications!! But I have noticed that when you create a shortcut to an Office 2003 Application, it seems to create it's own little icon shortcut made from an .exe file in the path similar to:- C:\WINDOWS\Installer\{9011-600-1DS...... etc etc\wordicon.exe C:\WINDOWS\Installer\{9011-600-1DS...... etc etc\pubs.exe C:\WINDOWS\Installer\{9011-600-1DS...... etc etc\pptico.exe C:\WINDOWS\Installer\{9011-600-1DS...... etc etc\xlicons.exe C:\WINDOWS\Installer\{9011-600-1DS...... etc etc\accicon.exe Obvioulsy these applications are blocked, hence the reason for them not opening when clicking the Icon, BUT if I unblock that particular path of the Installer, it doesn't mean it will be the same path on every machine, so is there away to allow those .exe files regardless of where they are located? I've also added the path to the Netlogon folder, it now Executes the .bat logon file, but we also have a script using Windows Scripting and I get the error that says:- Windows Script Host Execution of the Windows Script Host failed. Windows cannot open this program beacuse it has been prevented by a Software Restriction Policy. By allowing this program, will it created any problems? Or will it only allow the script to run successfully from the Netlogon folder as specified in the SRP? Any further hints?? Cheers, Matt

Thanks Guys for the info, I've setup like you said, and I get these results:- Created a new OU called restricted programs which has been created within the exsiting pupils OU Folder. Created a software restrictions policy, and modified it to allow (unrestricted) to the Office programs I want to allow i.e ...%programfiles%\microsoft office\Office11\winword.exe etc and I've moved the user into that OU folder (in this case my test account) When I logon to a workstation I get the following:- 1. It can't run the logon script, because it's obviuolsy being blocked (Can I allow a scipt to be run just from the Netlogon share folder on the server?) 2. If I try and open Word/Excel/Access etc from an Icon on the Desktop or from the Start Menu it says cannot open due to software restrictions on this account, but if I go to the Users Documents and open a Word Doc, Word will open, also true for Excel/PowerPoint and Publisher but not Access. Anybody got any clues? Is this something to do with maybe shortcuts being blocked aswell? Cheers, Matt

I would say 95% of problems with Lesson Monitor are due to the local Access Database file becoming somewhat corrupt. I have added a line to our staff logon script that deletes the local database everytime they logon to the system. That seems to have cured 95% of the problems!!!!!! :-) Regards, Matt

Hi Guys, Well seems like more and more people are getting this problem! I called Microsoft yesterday and spoke to a lady somewhere outside of this country! After giving her all our details and license key infomation/registration numbers etc etc she told me to go to a link on the microsoft website which would run a diagnostic check and permantely remove the annoying messages from the computer. However when I typed in the address she told me it came up saying "We are sorry but the webpage you tried visting does not exisit"! Maybe it was her accent and couldn't here what she was saying! In the meantime (knowing that Microsoft had agreed that my software was legit) I used a WGA Removal tool as suggested by somebody on this posting, did the trick for now! Going to give Microsoft a buzz again in a mo and find out what the actuall address is again! Will let you know what happens! Regards, Matt

hmmm, well I glad it's not just us then having this problem! @tominyork - That does seem a little crazy doesn't it!!! But going by what you say Microsoft have told you, I wonder why it happens on the factory installed RM Machines?!?

Yeah, that is most disappointing! Wouldn't have been so bad, like you say, if it was mentioned way back when they announced that Version 4 was on it's way!

Hi Guys, Has anybody else experienced this problem from a recent MS Update? We have a number of Tablet PCs, they were bought from RM Computers and have a LEGAL version of Windows XP Tablet Edition Installed on them. Following from a recent Microsoft Update, a number of the Tablets prompt the user with a messgae box and a countdown timer (To select the ok button) just after logging on stating that "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting" and once logged into the system a little "clog" type icon appears by the clock randomly popping up with the message "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting" double clicking on the icon takes you to the microsoft page regarding purchasing legal copies of windows! It looks as though when RM produce the Tablets PC's they roll them out from a singal image file which seems to have a Volume License Key installed, not all the Tablet PCs throw out this error. It looks bad on the school when they are being used with Projectors as the Kids see the messgae popping up and think we're using "dodgy" copies, and I also think that there is something crafty in this little annoyence that slows down the computer.
