Certificate Authority on Windows 2003 - Migration to 2008
kevin_lane replied to Dragon's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
Had this issue not long ago but as how you described your issue I had to domain controllers both 2003 active directory integrated and 2 2008 64bit servers how I did it was I installed the 2 2008 servers and moved over all services like dns and dhcp over to the new servers I then turned both servers into domain controllers once everything was settled and I turned off all the services on the 2003 server that I didn’t need I switched off the server leaving 1 2003 server ( still acting as the primary holder for the domain) I moved all of the roles from 2003 server to the 2008 server which regards to the CA i installed the feature on the 2008 dc and then i just did a backup of the 2003 ca and imported it into the 2008 server I myself was worried and because it was different architecture etc and thinking that it wouldn’t work and me getting over worked because they are so many different ways and different things that can or could go wrong so i just went with my gut and it works and then decommissioned the old 2003 server -
Ok I didn’t know that well I would include the pay scale but my hands are tied but if you read the job description it does say someone needs to be either an MCP or higher hope that helps.

humm most likely need to be a domain account with enough rights to change users password or maybe run under a local system account but the exe uses a domain account. Are you trying to cut down the number of people requesting password resets??
-
sounds good but only issue is that how can you get a user to reset their password if 1 they don’t know the old one and 2 what makes you think other people won’t try and reset other users password. Also how can a pupil reset their password when we have pupils who want to reset their password because they have forgot it. When a user wants to reset their password we make sure that they say who they say they are by looking them up in sims. But when a computer boots up the server askes the computer to provide it with the computer password to make sure that the computer can and establish a connection with the server / domain this is allow the computer to authenticate users who are part of the “domain” and then the domain authorizes then user to be able to logon to that computer as long as no restrictions are in place for that user e.g. being only to allow to logon certain computer and at certain times etc

I am tring to upgrade our ML350 g5 server to windows 2008 r2 64 bit but haveing a few probs no matter what it keeps ssaying i need to update these drivers Multifunction adapters: HP ProLiant iLO 2 Legacy Support Function Multifunction adapters: HP iLO Management Channel Interface Driver Multifunction adapters: HP ProLiant iLO 2 Management Controller Driver Tape drives: Hewlett Packard LTO Ultrium-4 drive Multifunction adapters: HP ProLiant iLO 2 Legacy Support Function Multifunction adapters: HP iLO Management Channel Interface Driver Multifunction adapters: HP ProLiant iLO 2 Management Controller Driver Tape drives: Hewlett Packard LTO Ultrium-4 drive - firmware has been updated i have installed all the drivers for what it needs of HP web site and i even ran the start cd for windows 2008 64bit just to se if it made a difference. i cant put in the windows 2008 server cd in becasue it gives a blue screen parity error and reboots and rolls back to windows 2003 ent 64bit. i'm trying to use the new dpm2010 but obs it needs to run on windows 2008 only and has to be 64bit has anyone had same probs before ?

i have a windows 2008 server when i logon to the server open up wds and try and create a catalogue for the wim file I get a strange error contacted Microsoft they pointed that make sure using a local admin account. The account I’m using is a domain admin and is also a member of the built in administrators group. now when i logon locally using the administrator account I open up the wsim and fine the win file and it will create the catalogue but when i try and open the wds tool from the server admin tool bar it i go to add server (which i shouldn’t need to do as it should know already) then select local computer and then says access denied this is using the local admin account i find this very strange am i missing something??
