thanks for your input really appreciate it . we have over 1300 pupils. all of our pupils have mandatory profiles but as we are doing more media stuff I guess is right in saying. i can slowly see the increase of disk space and I’m just thinking that we are going to go down that road. Especially with move maker and MP3 files being used in music (monitored of course) just gives me concern.

I’m planning on getting an HP DL180 g6 its going to be the new home for the pupils N Drives / Profiles as it is currently on our DC server (my inheritance) lol any way the server I’m going to be getting as well as 2 new DC I’m going 2 have 2 mirrored drives for the c:\ and x4 drives which are going to be in a RAID 5 config I’m not really too Fust on how fast it writes to the hard disk or anything like that because at the end of the day i'd rather the data be safe. But I’m trying to work out the amount of memory im going to want to put in as it will have a gbit NIC plus 2 cpus with 4 cores any input or suggestions would be helpful thanks

im not sure what you mean but a mandatory profiles are read only so im not sure what you mean about restrictions if you mean setting up a custome profile for all staff to use. then what you can do is create a local user account name i dunno called staff make the changes on what you want the desktop to look like and then copy the profile to a share folder on your domain and then setup the permissions to and then once it has copied over change the ntuser.dat to a .man AKA mandantory and then change the path on the staff profiles to point to that folder \\servername\staff\profiles not sure what you mean ?? internet filtering ??? your doamin image ?? asin ghost image or virtual image not sure what you mean??

what we have done is used a a vga spliter and that seems to work fine with pc monitor and projector for the teachers pc

we have just started using it its a very easy setup just a few clicks you fill in a few details you give an admin password create a share for the client then thats it really and yes it does connect over ssl you get a loads of papers with on setting it up wast if you ask me once installed on the client you just install logon on as pupil tested works ok then just setup and exam officer <----- you have to create this user with this user name other wise your exam coordinatior will not get access to some settings like downloading the exam from the board and then setting up an indiv to over see the exams when they are in progress not alot really had a live test yeasterday and worked like a charm

im having problems with downloading this image it uploaded fine i've put the drives in the (what i belive are the right drivers) in the \\wpwds01\d$\RemoteInstall\Setup\English\Images\Windows_XP\$oem$\$1\Drivers\dc8000 E1k5132.cat e1k5132.din e1k5132.inf e1k5132.sys these are the drivers and in the inf file this is what is displayed. and this what is in the DM on the computers network connections tab in DM ;=========================================================================== ; WINDOWS NDIS 5.1 ;============================================================================ ;------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ; Intel® 82567LM-3 Gigabit Network Connection i've also placed the drivers in the \\wpwds01\d$\RemoteInstall\Setup\English\Images\Windows_XP this is where the image is stored \\wpwds01\d$\RemoteInstall\Setup\English\Images\ICT1_IMAGE\i386\ i added this line in side the sif file [unattended] OemPreinstall = yes OemPnPDriversPath = \Drivers"\dc8000" before [unattended] OemPreinstall = yes OemPnPDriversPath = \Drivers and restarted the service etc but still getting an error called File e1k5132.sys caused an unexpected error 21 at line 3788 in d:\xpsp\base\boot\setup\setup.c any help would be grateful thanks

humm good question as i was going to do this for one of our sims admin teacher. as i have turned off all remote access as prev nm left them open...would i be wrong in saying have you upgraded recently or anything. i know the lesson monitor db gets copied but if your just a reg user with no class it shouldnt really be doing much only logging in and loading sims could shed any more light on this could this be a routing problem / when are you logging in e.g are you logging when the back ups are running ??

is their anything i could do or tweak the speed of the authentication...i say authentication it might not be but when staff on the internal network login on our ISA login page for some reason its really show ?? any ideas

for some reason... when i go to login with correct user and pass it try and login and then just go back to the login page. then i try again same thing. and then try again and it will work and then if i go to check my e-mail ( this is all external ) it will want me to login again even though i've logged in. any ideas ?

could you post any problems you came across. as would be usefull to know as im going to be doing thing after crimbo when i get my new budget 2 new g6 server which will just be pure dc and use the 2 other as just dhcp and dns

could it be maybe having some thing to do with the recovery points

i know that data does tend to increase over time. every so often im having to increase the recovery point volume and this, but this is on the system state.....it was before i changed it 30gb and now its 35gb but its used 29.57gb i dont understand this how the heck can a system state be this big ?? all the server is , is just a file server server for the staff profiles . the server is a hyper v so we are using hyper v technology aka virtualising.....upoon writing this i have just noticed this \\wpfile01\d$\WindowsImageBackup\WPFILE01\SystemStateBackup\Backup 2009-09-02 071824 which is 11.5 gig now would this having anything to do with it

is their an easy way of adding more than 1 computer managment to the mmc console with out having to do it 1 by 1 i just need to look at the local user and local group memebership

thats strange becasue i all ready have a system state backup every friday. http://www.thedigitalcore.co.uk/wp/state.png the only other option is to have a ntbackup scrtip run every thursday and save it to our ict support drive but its not really appropriate. any other ideas
