My Server Manager Roles was working fine but now for some reason it just comes up with error. the last thing i remember adding was i belive the backup role and i think since then server manager role will not display anything what can i do to fix this and this does this fore the features as well when i click on more info i get this error [Window Title] Server Manager [Main Instruction] Unexpected error refreshing Server Manager: Exception from HRESULT: 0x800F0818 [Content] For more information, see the event log: Diagnostics, Event Viewer, Applications and Services Logs, Microsoft, Windows, Server Manager, Operational. with regards to my Certificate Authorities Server which is on the same domain controller where I’m transferring it from should this have any implications I’m pretty sure it won’t but I can’t be too sure.

I am just about to transfer FSMO from my windows 2003 server to my 2008 domain controller. I just wanted to get peoples opinons on any problems they have came across on doing this

why would you want to use local than roaming ?

we have mandatory profiles for pupils and we have desktop redirect with staff. I will soon be redirecting the pupils start menu. one thing i would say is that staff do not like change especially when they have been used to saving to the desktop. change for them might cause you some problems so take caution, provide them with an alternate solution if they are accessing items from the network e.g i have added a folder on the desktop with each subject for each department which will map shortcuts be to the network location. so they don't have go through the start menu. and with the appropriate permission's

Humm i see both sides and i do agree that it's good in helping people who are less well off. BUT! you must consider the other factors I my self as a network manager have to decide on things such as this and personally i wouldn't and i mean like Pete says why give them an O/s which is no longer supported by Microsoft and don't give out any updates / patch anything like that. also you said you wouldn't mind giving it the one over well you have to decide you are either going to support it or not because If i was given a free PC and everything was ok for about a week. And it went wrong I would came back to you as you checked it over I would most prob want you to keep checking especially if the school gave it me for FREE. yes admittedly you need to license this now if this is SEN why don't you speak with your SEN coordinator and or if the school don't mind buying the OEM software for windows 7 because dint forget windows XP is coming to end of life soon what i would do is create a check list of all the items in the PC that have passed e.g network card / graphics card / sound / cdrom /dvd / etc and give it either a pass or a fail that way they know the faults but to be fair you want to make sure that everything pass as it will obs look alot better and just say at the bottom that they are agreeing to aceppt full responsibility for the PC and that school is no longer liable for the or attached to the school in any way

Hi sorry just looked at the doc yea i have got it and been reading through it. and been trying to wrap my head around this so i have the figures of my FTE staff (head count) i got told that there wasn't a min any more you just give them the count of how many staff you have. is this wrong ? i def want to take up the student software and staff but what about other software such as my data protection manager and what if i want system config manager 2007. this is a bit new too me so I'm sorry if I'm coming across dumb but going from counting how many computers to how many full time staff we have is giving me a bit of a head ace and how they work it all out and just making sure its legal as well. also how does it work as are an Microsoft Academy Partner

I have just been givin a price around the 8k mark for this new licence with ees. Now I have a feeling this is wrong. pardon me but what the HELL! is going on with EES licensing does anyone know lol. I also rang M$ and they dont know ANYTHING about what is going on with this new licence model i was on the phone for like an hour and half and most thme I was on hold whlist tried to find out all I keep seeing is you only need to licence the number of staff you have. and if you want software assureance and if you want to give out office to staff and students etc etc I cant see any easy way for it to tell me. what i need to do with my servers e.g tell them how many i have or what software is in it e.g SQL or Sharepoint or even how many computers are in the school. and time is running out any one in the same boat as me?

Has anyone ever came across an error with TMG were it says setup was unable to install ETW Manifest as a result setup cannot continue this server was not doing anything last thing we did was install the ssl certif we had all of the rules exported which went fine we could ping it remote access was ok We had an error on the tmg dash board about the windows firewall wasn’t started and also the scheduler

no its windows xp yea i will try and get a screen shot i have spoken to sims about it and they said aslong as it can write to the my documents folder should be ok

yea it did the firewall was ok the office com it was just looking for a sql server but it couldnt connect to it

yea the base filtering it running and its running under the local system but when i try start the firewall its says its a none known product

when you say see they cant ping it or browse to it either and i can open the firewall becasue the firewall service wont start

no they cant also in the network and shareing under networks it saying unknown but i think this is due to the NLS (network list service) and the NLA (network location awareness)

hi yea i can ping every server on subnet 255.255.252.0 its just other servers can see wpdc1

i havent setup the dns side of it yet just GC ad intgrated
