I've just been asked this week to look at tidying up our staff shared area. I'm looking at some Root folders for departments and then setting NTFS permissions on those folders for the relevant departments. We already have security groups in place for other things so I can hopefully utilize these which should speed up the process. It's just how I go about sorting the old data from current or should I say getting staff to sort out their data. Do you think making them move it temporarily into their own user drives would be a better option then on a certain deadline delete the data (make sure it's backed up), create the structure and then let them copy their stuff back into the correct department folders would be best? I would certainly be looking into De-duplication if possible too as i've heard it can save tons of space.

Hello everyone, I was wondering if any of you are aware of http://cleanvideosearch.com and if any of you actually use it? Our iboss filter allows us to redirect anyone to this website if they try and access youtube. It appears to be youtube without the comments and videos seem to be filtered. It says provided by iboss but anyone can get access to it by the looks. I'm thinking of allowing this for 6th form but I just wondered if anybody has any experience of using it and can think of a reason why I shouldn't. Keyword blocks kick in through my iboss if any of the words are searched on the site as a backup. Thanks, Jonny

Web Filtering, what to go for?
jonnykewell1 replied to manick's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I'm trying to setup the tunnel to the Iboss cloud but virgin need the Encryption, Authentication and DH group numbers. Does anyone know if there are Iboss defaults for this? I have mine set as aes128, sha256 and Group 5 respectively. These settings are not specified in the Iboss cloud settings and support isn't getting back to me at the minute with an answer. -
Hi all, Having a really strange problem that seems to be spreading round the schools student machines on Windows 7. When students logon and then load Internet Explorer it stops responding straight away and the stopped responding message keeps popping up and going away over and over again. It only seems to be happening to student accounts. When I look in event log I can see that Internet explorer is crashing and it points to the module wsck32.dll which from some searching on google appears to be related to Browse Control which I am told was installed here a few years ago. When I browse to the location of c:\windows\system32 and try and find the dll it seems to be missing. Now this is what I would expect as we don't use it any more but I can't see why it's suddenly started happening. I sent our a GPO to disabled the IE add in months ago which worked as the BC-agent service is stopped on the local machines. If I load up IE with add ins disabled it still comes up with the stopped responding error. I went onto the server where browse control was originally running and although still installed it's no longer running. I've uninstalled it just in case but I can't seem to fix the issue with the student machines. I checked a few machines as some were mixed versions of 10 and 11. I updated one to 11 and still the same issue. The student homepage points through to a frog server which is just used as an intranet page and logs in through NTLM, at first I thought it could be an issue loading the page but that seems to be loading ok. Are there any windows updates floating about at the minute that might be causing this sort of issue? Has anybody seen it before? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as i'm pulling my hair out here. Thanks

Pearson onscreen platform installation woes
jonnykewell1 replied to IT_Man_Dan's topic in Educational Software
Did you update the exam centre service on your server first? This then allows the administrator console and I believe the invigilator dashboard to pick up updates when you next run the software. It might be that the Exam centre service is older and the other consoles are newer? -
Pearson onscreen platform installation woes

Yeah I've had to do the same. All I was told is that it's some sort of communication error but no fix was offered. The tests did upload so that's good. -

Hi all, i'm having a small issue that's bugging me here with the test player. I just ran a test exam this morning and all seems to be working videos, photos etc.. but when completing the test and pressing 'complete test' I see the upload go to 100% but the it freezes and I get Edi.advance.tdp.client.exe has stopped working. The exam is showing as complete on the admin dashboard and I get upload status succeeded but I would like to try and fix this error just so the users don't panic when the exam has finished. Has anyone come across this and got a potential fix? I'm going to call up this afternoon just to double check that the answers have been received ok. -
IE11 GPO Maintenance settings missing

If you have a 2012+ server at all that's not a domain controller just save an MMC console shortcut on the desktop and add the snap in to your domain controller? -

Good Morning everyone, A colleague of mine is currently looking at Sophos Web Gateway as a web filtering solution. Does anybody on here use it and would you be able to give me your thoughts on the system? Does it tick all the boxes with regards to Internet Watch foundation block lists / prevent duty? How do you find the reporting process, the SSL inspection and technical support? Does it include any application specific controls? We are setting up a trial this afternoon and going to have a play but I thought I would come here and get some opinions from you guys. I'm personally leaning towards Iboss but ultimately I need to think about value for money and Sophos seems to be coming in quite a lot cheaper than Iboss so I really need to justify the extra spends to the man with the cheque book. Cheers. Jonny

BLOXX Web Filtering
jonnykewell1 replied to CPercival's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Thanks for you replies. It looks like the agreement ends on the 18th. They've said that everything will keep working but like you say no more updates or support. Apparently the option for extended support until 2017 wasn't taken up for some reason and is now passed the shut off date. I think I'm going to have to arrange a meeting and look at our options. -
BLOXX Web Filtering
jonnykewell1 replied to CPercival's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Hi All, I have just started at a new school today which uses bloxx and wondered if you had heard anything about support for SSL inspections being stopped as part of the end of support? Any help / update would be great thanks? I have read that the support is ending here, should we be gearing up sooner rather than later for a new product? -
Anyone else suffer with condensation in their home?
jonnykewell1 replied to abillybob's topic in General Chat
What is the pointing like on your external brick work? Our neighbor thought we had a problem for ages and it turned out that they needed to get the render sorted on their outside walls as it was letting in water. Do you also have some roof tiles with vents to allow air to flow freely? I've also heard of problems with cavity wall causing condensation issues and making sure that the air bricks in your wall are clear. -

Proxy settings removal from all machines
jonnykewell1 replied to cheaptonersucks's topic in Windows Server 2012
Have you tried deleting local profiles? I've seen these cache proxy settings in the past. Could even be in the default profile if using a mandatory one from the server? -

It also asks for the old password too so are users using generic ones? -
Connecting Windows 7 Laptops to new WiFi and disconnect from the old WiFi
jonnykewell1 replied to genesis's topic in Scripts
OK, basically you need to export the wireless profile from one working machine first using: Netsh wlan export profile New-SSID folder=c:\temp Save the exported XML file to a network share. Then create a logon script using a method similar to this: @echo off if exist "c:\temp\NewWiFi.txt" goto end if not exist "c:\temp\New-SSID.xml" copy "\\server\share\New-SSID.xml" "c:\temp" /y netsh wlan add profile filename="c:\temp\New-SSID.xml” user=all echo >c:\temp\NewWiFi.txt del "c:\temp\New-SSID.xml /y :end -

we had a script that pushed out a new SSID a week or so before and then when we turned the old ones off it was ready to go. I'll see if I can find it for you. -
So according to a SMH phone call, email addresses will only be carried over into show my homework if they are in SIMS at the time of account creation. If you add the email addresses into SIMS afterwards then they won't carry over into the system.
