We supplied the teachers with Sony Cybershot's (S600 or something similar). They just plug un to any USB using a cable and no drivers required, from then on they are just like using a memory stick. You'll still get the same problem of teachers etc not clearing old photos after they have use them though! The new ones have an inbuilt battery so no need for separate batteries etc (good point), kids manage with them OK, its the adults we have problems dropping them with! Just get an extra memory card. Jessops did us a good educational deal as we were after nine at once with camera, extra card, case etc.

Excellent find, I've got a scale one, not sure of the scale though, its about 4.5ft powered by a pressureised water bottle, just never had the guts to fly it yet! Made it at the begginning of the summer when we did a space topic in school, flew smaller ones with the Y6's with whole school watching, brilliant afternoon. Don't know about Excellent but I look after three at the moment, two complete and one in development. Two use a template based format and can be customised one was done in frontpage. template based (using schools.ik.org | Free websites for schools | Provided by Recipero & BT) St Francis Xavier Catholic Primary School (in development at the moment so not yet complete) http://www.balbycentral.ik.org (complete and just updated as and when required) If you go and have a look at the newsletters and documents you will see I have used the ipaper idea so that the newsletters go straingt to the site without me having to do any formatting of it and it can be in most file types. Front page based (been done about two years) Woodfiled Primary School Website. (OK but have usual problem of getting info from staff to put on it) Hope they give you some ideas what to do or not to do if the case may be. Rather grown fond of the template based idea as it quite simple to do, and I may be able to get other staff to do it for me, like adding newsletters etc.

There is only one DC, it has shown in the logs twice this year, January and October and I'm sure the server has been rebooted inbetween those times (but may be mistaken so it could be at boot time, can't check that at the moment as all are on it ). The October and January instances of this error are the same 5 events in the event viewer all together.

Just checking back through the error logs and have discovered the following error messages for DNS Server in Event Viewer, happened in January and October but don't know why and each time there are the group of 5 messages together. Thanks for the replies, he's already doing a simple all round PC course at the local community school, but from what he says its very simulated driven if you get what I mean, information, then multi choice questions, not very 'hands on' use which is why he's trying to put it to use at home. As for what he's going to do with it...the worlds his oyster, mainly the internet I think as he's a;ready been asking me what ebay is etc.

Think about replaceing the HD in my own PC as it just seems to be the one component that is slowing the system down, always seems to be accessing the HD and just churns away for a while sometimes before catching up with itself, its a P4 3.0Ghz with 1.5Gb of Ram and XP Pro , use it for allsorts except gaming (any way of checking whats the bottle neck?) anyway, looked at a 500Gb 16Mb disk of ebuyer quite cheap at the moment but it says its SATA2, and the age of my PC I guess it would be SATA1, so would the new drive work with SATA1?

Its not that he's having problems its just that he needs the basic help of how to do things. Got Logmein set up so that if he's got a problem I'm able to sort it out, but he just needs something to refer to as a guide.

Christmas present time! (not for me I hasten to add!), my Dad (at 78) has just started using a laptop I gave my parents but he needs a guide that will hold his hand and guide him in very basic steps. Anyone come across a book that is very 'basic'. Seen the dummies guide but they always assume that the user will pick things up quickly and then jump into some more relatively compley stuff condeming the basics to the first chapter.

Can you use Gparted from a boot CD to see if the Fogged HD partition is marked up as a boot partition? Made that mistake myself when I could not understand why a Samsung would not boot with the image? Might be work a check to rule it out or in?

I've only tried basic chromakey filming but the key is to get a good 'green screen' and get the lighting right, if you do that then you can get some good results. I used any software to record to an avi then used the free WAX video program for the greenscreen bit. My 'green screen' was a green plastic table cloth from The Range, seemed top work OK, not the best but I'm a cheapskate! Inscructions for how to chromakey with WAX can be found on the web. The software allows you to select any background colur being used but green and blue works best. Hope that helps.

Just been reading the thread on mandatory profiles and thought about redirecting the appdata folder to the server (we already had mandatory profiles and redirected My Documents). Is there any prep work I would need to do before redirecting the folder other than creating a shared area for it and do I just add the path to the redirected folder list in AD, remember seeing the option once.

Daughter wants to buy an ipod with her birthday money and intends to watch some films on it, but as usual it will be down to me to sort that out. Now, I have no experience of ipods at all so what format do the films have to be in (from her own DVD's I presume) and how do you put them on the Ipod..USB? Does any music put on the ipod have to be in a specific format or are mp3's OK? Sorry know I work in IT but a bit of a numpty when it comes to these things...bit like I am with photocopiers and mobile phones!

Had this myself aswell, to things to check, as mentioned previously the DMA setting of the DVD drive and also open up the PC and check how the drive is connected to the motherboard, try and make sure its set as master on its own channel, that was my problem, they had been built for cheapness using a single cable and the DVD set as slave on the same channel as the hard disk! Added a new cable and set it as Master, end of problems.

Simple answer is as far as I know or experienced...No! GTP's yes as they are attached to the school for most of the year but PGCE are only short term, just like having any other teaching student on placement, we would not issue them with one, so PGCE are no different.

Why dont you just do a ctf file from SIMS, then just load it straight in? Works for me.
