Have you tried doing it? If they have chat disabled for students I would have thought it would refuse to call them as well. Or not let them answer. Certainly if staff sends a student a private message they won't get it with chat disabled on the student end.

Just found 'Calling Policies' under voice. See if that helps.

We have disabled 'Chat' for students in that messaging policy which means they can't message or call each other or staff. Then the meeting policy covers the 'Teams' meet now etc. So I'm not sure you can disable calling without also disabling chat.

Have a look in the messaging policy. I'm pretty sure its in there.

I to hope Microsoft create an automated method of creating the teams. Asking teaching staff to do this is a barrier to them using it and will likely result it far less use. I think the reason Microsoft are changing this is not all subjects or rather classes from your MIS would be useful to be Teams. So my hope is they allow staff to 'Activate' a team rather than create it from new. However lets see what they come up with. On a rota here but we're a small school so I'm mainly in for support generally rather than IT.

I'm pretty sure my account is on targeted release but I'll check. However I thought they only set them to 'Launched' once the roll out was complete. So I took it it was fully rolled out. I have a support case open but not heard anything yet.

The browser and app are both the older files experience and this is across our entire tenancy. I've check the app version and its dated 23/03/2020 V1.3.00.3564

We're in the same boat here. Teams isn't showing the new 'SharePoint Experience' on the files tab. The road map says it's been released but we're not seeing it. I might open a support ticket this week for it. You might want to do the same.

No you need to add the library ids. Although you can add them all to one policy and it'll only sync the ones that user has access to. So we've automatically synced all the department teams but left classes as teams only.

We have the same issue and we're running Office 2016 with separate Teams install.

If you use the select all feature it selects 20, however if you then pick 30 more making it 50 it'll apply policies.

If you invite students they are 'Participants' rather than 'Attendees' which gives them more rights. So advise if students just click on 'Join Now' in the team chat. That's what we found anyway.

We have the 'Chat' tab disabled for students but if they're a member of a team you can put messages in the 'Conversations' area which is viewable to everyone in the class. Much the same way it would be if they put their hand up in class. I do agree however that ideally Teams needs a features to mute all attendees in a meeting by default. There is a 'Mute All' option in the participants area but students can unmute themselves. However it starts to become a classroom behaviour issue just as it would be talking over someone in class. All this is only going to be 'Best effort' when your having to try and continue as normal when school is closed.

Just to update my own thread, We've managed to get boards working but only by re-imaging the machines and installing the V5.7 driver. It seems once the V5.8 driver is installed you can't downgrade to V5.7 without having issues like the above.

We have two physical file server here but that's just because that's mainly as we have the hardware to do it. Running the file server in a VM is a good idea but you just need to plan out you virtual disk drives as there likely to be large. Maybe split them up to avoid having to deal with large single disks. As for if you would run two VMs, it really comes down to a risk assessment. With your VM hosted on high available hosts to protect against hardware failure your only remining risk is the file server OS itself. However if you can recover the OS quickly from a backup then a single server shouldn't be a problem.

Around 50p for a Mifare classic card I would say, depends on the number your buying.

For us, we moved to mifare ID cards which we use for Cashless, Doors, Library and Printing. Removing the need to hold biometric data. Our kitchen staff said they can now process students much faster as pretty much everyone has a ID card and only has to tap it on the reader to pay. Rather than deal with students without permission entering pins or cleaning the readers to get it to read the thumbprint. Does mean manging lost ID cards but its manageable.
