  1. I have found that sometimes when creating a new user, on first log on with the change password option ticked they do not actually get any home directory mapped or shared areas.
  2. have you set " user must change password at next log on"

  5. We migrated from cc3 to vanilla a few summers ago, fairly straight forward process really. We kept the same domain and started early in the year by transferring all staff laptops and admin computers to vanilla months before we actually removed CC3, only leaving the classroom computers to be done over the summer. Though use of loopback polices I was able to run vanilla machines and cc3 side by side a good 3-4 months before we actually moved to a full vanilla network. Then it’s just a case demoting servers..And rebuilding them as standard servers, then promoting again...Just remembers to transfer the roles before you demote the last server. During the summer we transferred all the users Home directories to a new fileserver using robocopy and reconnected the AD accounts. At first it felt like it was going to be a complicated process but it was actually very easy. The biggest job was actualy sorting out the images for all the different types of PC's and laptop's we had. I think RM has some notes on moving to a vanilla network and there are also loads off post on edugeek that helped me. If you have any questions please feel free to PM me.
  6. Thanks, thats what i was thinking
  7. I would advise on creating your own from scratch, at least then you will know your own network (Group Policies) inside out....its good for understanding and troubleshooting problems that might arise.
  8. I have an interview tomorrow and the JD states: "You will have experience building standard and non-standard packages using the CC3 /CC4 software packages" do you think by standard they mean using the RM blue Print and Non-standard using RM application wizard? Ive not used a RM cc3 network for over a year now and i probably created over a hundred packages in the 5-6 years i used a cc3 network....just trying to refresh my memory. their will be a practical test on the day so im trying to make sure im recall how to do it.
  9. Can anyone recommended a good (cheap ) Umbrella Company? are they worth signing up for?

    Netboot

Thanks for the replies, in the end the problem was the netboot folders, when i first installed the netboot service i manually created the folders as the service did not cseem to create the folders...so i dont think the perms set correctly on those folders. i uninstalled everything and started again, this time when i installed netboot the folders got created. i discovered the problem by looking at the kernal panic log file on the mac, some thing about "nfs server refused mount" a quick google of this pointed to the netboot folders

  15. my CV has been on monster for over a year and yes you will get plenty of job offers, but most of them will be temp contracts and usually miles away from your location...i've not had a decent job offer yet.

  20. We have a server 2008 fileserver, I have enabled file resource manager to block students saving EXE files to their home directorys. We get a notification if a student tries to save an EXE file to their home directory. The weird thing is for some time now we have been getting these notifications below regard Pcclient.exe (Policy Central) User CAMPION\WrayL07 attempted to save E:\Users\2007Intake\WrayL07\PCClient.exe to E:\Users\2007Intake on the SEC-FILESERVER server. This file is in the "Executable Files" file group, which is not permitted on the server. This is not happening to all users only some, I presume the PCClient.exe is trying to save to the student Home directory when they log on or log off. But WHY? Forensic software have said "Hi Martin I have heard this reported by some sites. There is nothing in PCE client that will do this so we think it is due to local a/v software or perhaps a deliberate attempt by a user to investigate the file? This not something we have been able to replicate so any pattern to this will assist us in doing so." We get about 12-20 of these messages a day, i cannot see any pattern. Any one else experiencing this problem?
  21. Hard to say, have you checked the logs onthe machines? might give a clue. Our machines are always slowed down first thing by the antivirus Updating - always updates first time they are turned on! Or have you any scripts running at boot? removing profiles etc?
  22. I second AutoAid - they will also pay for the cost of labour/repairs(not parts) if linked to the breakdown. the only downside is the need to pay for it yourself first then claim it back...i have recieved a cheque from autoaid within two weeks each time.

  25. My wife is a photographer she has used a Sony camera on and off for about a year along with a 16 GB Kingston compact flash card. Today she does a shoot at the studio, checking the pics on the camera as she works -get's home and attempts to load the Raw files to the pc as usual...but no no files on the card. when viewing the card though my computer is states 11.5 GB free of 14GB. opening the card in explorer shows no files,so i check it in disk management the drives displays as 15GB and healthy (FAT32)!! i have so far tried lots of different freeware recovery software tools, but i cannot find the files from the shoot today- weirdly i can recover files from months ago and up to a few days ago. i dont understand why this card is displaying used space but nothing there! when i run chkdsk /f i get convert lost chains to files Y/N i select yes and get insufficient disk space to recover lost data windows found problems with the file system that could not be corrected any ideas to what i should try next?
