in regards to blocking internet, i used to have a OU below the students Ou ( so it picked up the Normal student policy) applied to the New Ou i would have a policy applied that would just set an incorrect proxy..or just blank. As this policy is applied last it would stop the internt from being used. then all i would do is move the student to that OU when i wanted them blocked from the internet. hope that makes sense

as long as you created a new policy from a 2008 server or win 7 machine, then it shoud work, just make sure you tick the option also apply redirection to xp, 2000 etc.... Also do not tick the grant user exclusive use. this was is the gpo for a site which i had this working on recently Setting: Basic (Redirect everyone's folder to the same location) Path: \\xxxx\SYSVOL\xxx\Policies\curriculum\start menu Options Grant user exclusive rights to Start Menu Disabled Move the contents of Start Menu to the new location Disabled Also apply redirection policy to Windows 2000, Windows 2000 server, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 operating systems Enabled Policy Removal Behavior Leave contents this policy was applied to xp and Win 7

no real outstanding suggestions of which Application to use for imaging then? MDT or Fog - can these be installed and run from my laptop? im planning on testing as soon as i get chance
-
As i deal with Mainly Primary schools, im planning to use a base image with all the Open source software installed and basic stuff. Then use Group policy to push out the different software at the sites.
-
Thanks will have a look at that

see this Why doesn't my computer detect my new USB device when I'm running Windows XP or Windows Server 2003?
-
Try going into adsiedit.msc and removing the trust from AD manually - im sure you can view the trust and remove it from there , i will have a look at work tomz to confirm. Other wise you might have to leave it - its not doin any harm is it? probably annoying though.

Sounds Good

I now visit lots of different schools and at the moment for imaging it’s a case of creating a new image for different models of PC\Laptops and capturing the image using Ghostcast which is installed on the sites server or capturing to a USB drive. This is can very time consuming and inefficient. What i looking for is a Method of using 1 image (1 for each different OS, Mainly XP some Win 7) for all sites, and maybe having MDT or some other Imaging software installed on my laptop ready to go? I’m only familiar with Ghost, so can someone advise if this is possible?

I was in the same boat as you and decided to take the jump...ive been contracting for 3 months now and really enjoy it. I worked as network manager for 10 years in a secondary school although it was a secure job i found myself bored and in need of new challenges. I say go for it, sign up with an umbrella company (cloud 9 are free for the first 3 months)... heres a few sites i found usefull first Contractor UK - for UK IT Contractors, IT Contracting and Computer Freelancers Contract Eye - Guides for IT Contractors - IR35 - Contractor Accountants - Umbrella Companies - Mortgages - Limited Company Tax They say that there has been a shortage of contractor jobs latley but this is set to improve..if theres is anything i can advise you on please do PM me
