Anyone have a drone for school use?
RobFuller replied to CyBeRkId2002's topic in How do you do....it?
I was under the impression if you where using a drone for business, and would have thought an employee of a school would class as such, they needed to have a PfCO (Permissions for Commercial Operations) license and appropriate insurance. -
I couldn't get Solus working over DA, in the end I used a in-house written application which runs as a shutdown script to execute SIMSLoad.exe I get my staff to reboot there laptops to apply any SIMS release (just done the Spring 2020 update and this worked fine on nearly 200 laptops remotely! I might look at streamlining this into SCCM so I can avoid the reboot.

I will PM you, cheers!

@ass17 can't get the Override_Option_ADGroup to work. Tried making the group without spaces added and removed the membership but I cannot get it to override a default disable spell check. Any advice? Thought now is as good time as any to make these changes I've been waiting to do! 😁

We have some students who are hearing impaired so voice only isn't really ideal. Our normal policy for everyone else is no 1-2-1 or video calls.

Interested in point 2 if you find the answer.

Why can you not apply this per group Microsoft instead of individually.

Microsoft Teams - Anyone using in a school environment?
RobFuller replied to SimonInOz's topic in Enterprise Software
When applying policies, can you apply to a group or do you have to apply to individual users? I know can be done en-mass but I want to avoid repeatedly applying the setting to new students and applying to the group would make this automatic. Interested to know how others are doing it. Thanks -
Disaster recovery - recover to Azure?
RobFuller replied to localzuk's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
I'm in the exact same position as yourself @localzuk re-writing our DA plan and trying to work out the best "temporary" recovery location for our data. Cloud hosting makes the most sense and TBC to get such a quick recovery in a total disaster I don't think £5k per month would be a balking point for us, given this would only be a temporary arrangement until on-site facilities were ready to takeover. -
Just doing the very same thing now, looking forward to the future update where you can use it for lesson marks. Our SLT are keen for this for Sixth Form study periods so they have an attendance register but without the staffing cost.

No worries cheers

Do people have any issues using the seating planner? We are have real issues with getting larger rooms to fit onto the screen and fitting all the information on? Its ok if you use a high resolution monitor. I'm pushing to rid us of SMHW and this is the last bit that isn't up to scratch for us yet that's holding the project back. Otherwise very please with the whole product and the support!

So it does support networking via the USB>Lightning cable or do you need another adaptor like @Brimstone posted?
-
I've found cheap PoE power adaptors no problem, plenty, just trying to combine the two.

Installing a couple of fixed iPads (yes in robust mounts) for a Sixth Form and Visitor registration project. Looking for a PoE adaptor that both powers and also offers ethernet so I don't have to worry about WiFi signal strength and as they are fixed locations make sense to hardwire. Plus the locations don't have power sockets nearby so PoE will make it cheaper even factoring in an adaptor cost! Found this which is perfect https://www.poetexas.com/collections/all-products/products/gaf-lightning-p-d but just getting it shipped to UK. Wondered if anyone else has used or got anything recommendations?

That's good to know! I was of the understanding it used the alternative band that your device was connected to for infrastructure mode?

If you want to stick to Miracast as your display technology of choice you'll need something and devices that support the 5GHz band rather than the limited 2.4Ghz range which I think the Microsoft adaptor only support. We use ActionTec as they support touchscreens wirelessly which was a game changer for us but you'll need the 960 series or better to have 5GHz. https://www.screenbeam.com/products/screenbeam-960/
