  1. http://images6.theimagehosting.com/vbprog.th.jpg Is why I only give them one button to press and it tells them whats up.
  2. I have had two issues. One was with the installers, to do with the way the speaker wire were terminated (read left with 3 inches of bare wire hanging out the back of each conection). And with the quality of the Sanyo projectors, all of which have had to be deep cleaned and will need replacing before the end of next year (approx 3 - 4 years life span). Technical support is usually quick and accurate. Updates to the software happen often and are free. Pens are cheap if you buy 10 (£40 each, 10 for £100!) Replacement Nibs are free.
  3. VB 2005 prog I wrote to change between home and school internet access. 'Lap top proxy settings changer '© Chris Britton for use on WRJ laptops only '2006 for use with .net version 2.0 only 'This program changes the proxy configuration of the host PC 'and the default start page so that users can have a one click 'set up so they can use the internet at home or in school. 4. Hard drive magenets waved not so gently across the mobo. Works a treat.
  5. There are a range of viewers available. You get what you pay for, the cheapest (free) are a mixed bunch with mixed results. http://www.lvbprint.de/html/download.html The above viewer works really well, its in german but you should be able to follow it.
  6. http://www.oreillynet.com/cs/weblog/view/wlg/448:D Or get a cheap repeater. Does depend on how many clients are trying to connect and what they are trying to do. The above link had a certain amount of fun value, but a friend of mine beams a rather fast internet connection from work to his house 1/2 a mile away using a very slightly improved home made design.
  7. Gordon Brown offends me, how come noboddy cares about that.
  8. Its £580 for the projector and £220 for the board. Both for two years warranty. Also as far as the mounts go, its still worth buying a universal mount to get a new projector rather than keep the "old" knackered ones. Also the pricing structure is very revealing. £580 warranty for a product that costs £500 tells me there is a high chance of failure. £220 warranty for a product that retails at £1500 (for the board only) tells me its unlikely to fail, or at least will be cheap to fix. (our only failure so far has been the power supply, £4.99 from wilkos).
  9. Two year warranty on our obsolete Sanyo Cr**tastic projectors, £580 (ex vat?) Cost of super education spec Brand new Sanyo Projector with three year warranty £480 (ex vat). Sorry but I cant see how this works. To extend cover to all 12 of our promethean boards and projectors will cost 10K. But hey we get 12 free pens!!!!111 wooot!
  10. http://www.1001freefonts.com/ Has loads of free fonts. The font you are after does not look that special, I am sure you will find one thats close.
  11. Am I the only one that found the Apple stand at Bett "uncomfortable"?
  12. I hate what sometimes gets done on the network to make things work. It would be great to have some of our resource CD's on the network so that they didnt get lost and so that everyone can access them. As only one dance class goes on at a time, it should be reasonable to allow that class to access that music via the network. This is one of those "break the looms" moments in time from the luddites at recording industry a** of America. Where they had a monopoly on the production of mass recordings. Their whole business was built on the premis that the public could not make high quality recordings cheaper than they could buy the CD. Now a CD costs 20p (mass produced CD's cost pennies to produce) they still want to charge £10 - £12 even though most of the cost (50% is for the shops which are, lets face it completely redundant) and the rest is made up of profit for them and earnings for the Artist. Plus I cannot remember the last time I used a CD to listen to music. Even my car Radio plays MP3's. The bulk of a CD for just one Album! Gack! Think I am being unfair? How many film rental shops have gone bust now that most of the county has access to sky box office or buys their films at ASDA / TESCO for £2 more than the hire cost? /rant I shall go have a lie down.
  13. Try reinstalling xp over the top. Should keep most of the software and create a new hal so all is well. Then take a new image.
  14. Well I'll let you know if mine fails before the end of the century. Over priced? Maybe, then so are server discs. They are also 10000k with 16megs cache. Though they do have lower data density than the more modern drives. If one fails on me then its not worth the money, but before I bought them I had a series of drive failures that annoyed me no end. I think 5 disks blown in less than 5 years. I also use a 75 gig one in one of the servers here at work, for ghost images, intranet, wsus and the proxy. Its connected to a 8 year old mobo via a very good quality sata card. This drive is abused to a very high level and is very very quick.
  15. http://widget.dilbert.com/ Get dilbert on your rss feed in colour, or add it to you website.
  16. Not what I ment, 500gigs on a drive is a lot. The technology is there, but for that price quality is going to come second. Its why the Raptor drives are the best for reliability (for consumer disks), but they are £1 per gig. Scsii costs even more per gig but then again is designed to run for 5 years constantly without failure in a server. Consumer drives are built to a price and a percentage are going to fail or not meet the standards required. The drive companies let the consumers do the quality control testing, most of the faulty drives will fail within the first hour, the majority within 24hrs and the rest should last upwards of 3 years normal use. This is more cost effective than doing the testing yourself. Now I do have a 200MB HD that is sitting in the bottom of a draw at home. This from the days when the drive would have cost upwards of £400 (1990 ish I think). It still works, go figure Oh and to suck eggs, first you have to open your mouth wide.
  17. I regularly use the xp power toy image resizer along with a search for jpegs on our image dump area. I leave it going over night, resizeing them to 1200 x 1024 which is approx 80kb - 120 kb instead of the native 800kb for the school digi cameras and 3 - 5 megs for the posh ones people bring in from home. If they want full res it goes in their user area.
  18. You get what you pay for. A 500gig hard disk for £50? Something has to give. I use raptors in my home PC, for reliability and speed, they cost a lot of dosh though. You could try rubber gromets though, that might help. Try your local modeling shop for some model aircraft fuel hose, cut into 2mm o rings and place wither side of the mounting screws, just dont over tighten them. Also make sure its not the case resonating, as this can casue one hell of a racket and is somewhat easier to fix with foam tape and such like.
  19. Actually I have had good results by formating the pen drive (quick format) Then using recovery software. This way the computer alows access to the drive and the software can scan it for files (formating does not erase the data just gives a new file system). I use Edata unerase http://www.octanesoft.com/data_recovery_free_edition.html its dirt cheap and works like a charm, the picture software works well too and is a cheap deal when bought together (Around £20 for the pair I seem to remember) Still its a really easy bit of software to use.
  20. 'add a printer but do not make it the default. Set wshNetwork = CreateObject("WScript.Network") wshNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection "\\servername\printername" 'add another printerand make it the default. wshNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection "\\servername\printername" wshNetWork.SetDefaultPrinter "\\servername\printername"
  21. PSA. Keepvid is a website which gives you the direct download path.
  22. Keepvid.com Does em all, works without fault. It just gives you the direct download path. Never failed me yet.
  23. The only way to fix is to install over the top, you will keep most of the installed software. You need a new Hal and this is the way you get it. You can also make quick and dirty images like this for ghost, but its not the most reliable way of doing so
  24. True story. Got called to a suite by a science teacher, a Doctor at that. Conversation went "This computer does not work" I looked at the "computer". Ah, I said, have you tried switching it on? Look of disbelief, then he turned, tried to switch on the computer. At this point he hit a stumbling block, there was a mouse, a keyboard, a monitor but no F****ing Computer, It had been taken away the previous week to be fixed.
  25. Red hammer, and I got bored with the maths.
