  1. Check the usage level on the servers.
  2. Are most clients logged in when the problems happen?
  3. I wonder if your issue is to do with the server limiting the number of logons/ open sessions.
  4. The link I provided helps you control the thin client, and is a better more elegant solution then putting the RDP file into "Startup" on the menu. So they are being forced to log off the actual thin client and not just the server, while they are working? If they are idle when it happens then your thin clients could be being power setting on the thin client logging them off (or actually just going to the lock screen).
  5. I recommend a product called ThinKiosk (ThinKiosk: | AndrewMorgan.ie) you can then replace the Windows explorer with this and it will re-launch the RDP session when a user logs off. If your connections are freezing, or shutting without any warning then that is likely an issue caused by a network problem, so investigate this.
  6. Yes, pretty much. But your student could use Office 365 as an alternative. All our VDI devices etc are owned by the school.
  7. There is a VMware version and HyperV can do it, basically the 3 usual suspects.
  8. You would need to give a few more details on how much IT equipment you have there. A school with 2000 students and 700 computers will spend way more then that is half the size.
  9. This might sound odd, but I have seen it in practice. People with dyslexia etc wearing blue glasses when they use computers, apparently it helps with projector screens to.
  10. We have two thin client setups, one as a virtual pool and one as session based. RDP 8.0 is fine for youtube for us on both setups, obviously it is smoother and nicer through a virtual pool as it uses the graphics card properly but the session based is fine. It does depend on your browser to though, for exampel Internet Explorer is worse for youtube then Chrome we have found.
  11. Honestly, I don't know, it seems to depend on where you read about it.
  12. I have heard (from someone who looked at places for wind farms), that the actual cost of a turbine was more then double the amount of energy it would produce in value. It has been known for a long time they aren't carbon neutral but people accept them more willingly then other methods of energy production. Personally I would like to see tidal being done more, estimates for the Severn Barrier would be capable of producing 5% of the UK Energy needs, but as with every product they are expensive and always someone doesn't like the idea. http://planetearth.nerc.ac.uk/blogs/post.aspx?id=1037&pid=367
  13. Fixed for me to, awesome.
  14. Following my previous post, the File Access is working with Firefox and Chrome I believe but not Internet Explorer at the moment. So it appears the patch has stopped IE only, I read about it be deprecated but that doesn't mean it is removed
  15. Weird I had mine working yesterday!
  16. I have been checking this again this morning and it has broken again, I wonder if the restart from the updates solved it. I have noticed that my UAG server has given me an error saying that my DC (the one used for File Access) is trying to access it to many times, and is going to be blocked. I have added this as an exception on TMG and I am going to try restarting it tonight and see if it works.
  17. The issue with the credit note will be it will arrive after both invoices have arrived, meaning we can't use it on the second "order" that was replacing the faulty goods. If I hadn't been buying replacements, then my replacements wouldn't have even been shipped yet because they haven't collected the old ones. If the courier Millgate uses isn't any good, then they should be chasing them, there is nothing I can do but yet the school loses out. There isn't even a tracking number available for the items. I apologise for offending everyone by complaining when a supplier has let me down, and then after days still hasn't resolved the problem even though I have been contacting them directly. Might as well close and delete this thread, I'll just keep waiting and cross my fingers because mentioning it here seems to stirr up the equivalent of fan boys.
  18. Sorry I emailed them Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Everyday the excuse is the courier.
  19. Since I seem to be having a fruitless time getting items that are faulty replaced. My first issue, I don't expect to wait 6 days for an item to be picked up (today is day 6), even though they were meant to be collected 4 days ago, and then I still need to wait for the replacement to ship, I now have a department without the item even after a week oh halt term! My second issue (not the same as above)I also don't expect that when I agree to buy a different product to replace the other faulty goods, that these items that are "next day" still aren't here after 3 days (not including the weekend). And the originals are still in my office because no one has arranged to collect them! So I'll probably end up paying for goods, then having to get a credit note, which forces me to spend money with Millgate again, which after all the above problems I don't think I want to. I am not missing 3 computers in a department because it is impossible to get a product replaced or delivered, and being told everyday that it is a courier problem isn't good enough, I don't choose the couriers, if the courier is lying to you everyday, then that isn't my problem either. I've emailed my account manager again this morning telling them, about these problems, and they are on annual leave now (so after 4 days of messing about trying to get this problem resolved, I can't even contact them anymore and my problem still exists)
  20. Following up from the my post yesterday, having run a windows update (not one through WSUS), the File Access is now fixed.
  21. Always one to take a risk, I have installed it, and our file access has broken. Windows 8 works though...
  22. check the event viewer, i think you will find a service cannot be started, I had to change the account a service started under.
  23. If what GrumbleDook is saying is true then it would appear that some LAs just assume you would never want to leave so they don't tell you that you are going to be charged to leave (I would be money on this never being told to a school when they signed up). It is the same above attitude that no one will leave that has lead LAs to become uncompetitive with leaving, prices quoted from our local LA were nearly double the cost of going independent. When we told them our costs of leaving their prices were suddenly able to go lower (virtually matching going independent), which makes you wonder why it was £10k+ extra annually to start with.
  24. I would refuse to pay anything if you are end of contract, simple as that
  25. I would check the contract to be honest, if your contract has expired then you shouldn't have costs. If it has expired then I can see why they want to charge you. When we left out LA for the internet connection, software they provided etc, we were at the end of our contract and just gave them written notice we were leaving, they arranged to collect some of their on site equipment and then that was it.
