We used them a lot for laptops until 2 years ago when the customer service went downhill. We only use them for warranty repairs now but it seems that may be gone soon!

I fail to see the advantage here or am I being too cynicle?

My SMT are looking to get in some professional training on how to get the best from our many SmartBoards. A quick google doesn't reveal much. Have any of your schools done this if so who did you use and can I have a web link West Mids based if possible if they don't come to the school. VMT

That would be about 10 meters then? -
We have 2 at the mo and plan to expand the system. We show: Photos/movies showing students achievements, external trips. Information on Clubs and support groups Exam Timetables News via RSS, BBC news, Science news etc. (Also TV in specific locations) School News Welcome to visitors Special displays for after school activities such as open evenings, concerts etc. Urgent messages for whole school or individuals. We can even show exit signs where appropriate. The hardest part is actually getting the staff to give you the material to go on it. It took us a while but some staff here are now regular contributers.

Probably full of military brats with their Parents rifle tucked in their uniforms Ask to look in the cellars and look for fresh concrete on the floor

Our Science techs don't have nor do they want laptops, even though they run courses here for other schools science techs. They are happy using the desktops. There is no 'entitlement' for anyone to be issued with a personal laptop, unless directed by the LEA, Governors or HT.

Thanks Ric - that reminds me - Warranty past the 12 month point would be useful.

I'm looking for some new laptops. We have HPs at the moment but can I ask for some feedback from anyone using Samsungs especially the P400 & P500 series. Alternative suggestions would be grateful too. Min 80GB HD, 1GB RAM, wireless, long battery life etc. Budget is max of £450 per laptop. Has anyone bought any with 801.11n(draft) cards in them yet?

Get a copy of the H&S regulations pertaining to working at heights etc, place them on your LMs desk then loudly ask him who the stupid one is now

I agree it looks like a nice piece of software, but it's the unlocked PCs that are the concern for me. Have they resolved the licence number issue when installing on multiple machines yet?
-
Thanks all - I'll now try and steer the teacher away from it

It gets worse - adding another 32 this summer and replacing 32 others which means the old ones will probably be cleaned up and put back into circulation for basic web browsing and office functions The SMT are currently happy to pay for the additional costs of maintenance which sort of buggers up our objections Next Year we upgrade the wireless kit

You could look at a school photo album. We have one available on our intranet available to authorised users only. We use JAlbum but there are others such as coppermine etc. How often are photo's taken then left on a drive for ever more.

If we can't do it then we will use notepad, but I wanted to see if it could be done as in the future it may not just be word applications that exam candidates have to use. Thanks for the info - I'll try the VBA route.
-
It is for exam candidates. Rather than lock down a PC manually I'm creating a profile that can log in anywhere in the school. That way we don't tie up a PC or laptop specifically for exams and we can have more than one candidate sit at a time. We could use notepad but staff here would rather the students use a familiar program (Don't ask!!)

Does anyone here know what the command line ID is for F7 (Spell check) in Office 2003 is? We've managed to lock off everything else but we can't find this one.
