  1. Is there anything that they need to do in SIMS for trips, etc that they cannot do in SLG, of not then you already have what you need that you can also use on mobile devices
  2. Are you deploying SIMS to more than just Staff machines? If yes, then SIMS usage is controlled by logins.
  3. No, the mobile redirect is only for Parents and Students, they could do these as normal in SLG on a mobile, page is just smaller
  4. If this is a Discover client then it's a known issue, try deploying the Discover update again for the workstations and Discover should install on the new clients
  5. Probably too late but... SLG Mobile is a SharePoint site in SLG that looks like an App in a Mobile browser. It enables parents and students to see homework, among other things
  6. Is you're connect.ini a redirect to mapped drive or UNC path on the workstation. Other than that, firewalls, SQL Browser, permissions
  7. The SOLUS3 UI can be installed on additional machines, we have it installed at several schools in this way.
  8. The SQL accounts are created by a Capita utility. They are required for different services. The benefit of having multiple accounts is if there's an issue with one account (it happens) then only one service will go down.
  9. If it was writing to the database then I completely agree and would not even contemplate advising, reading will do no harm (as long as you know what you're doing ). Engage sounds interesting, one of the problems of SIMS is there is so much useful information in there and no GUI based way to access it, hence the threads like this one.
  10. You use the /TRUSTED switch for dbAttach Run dbAttach.exe /? for all details /TRUSTED - Used instead of /USER and /PASSWORD. Uses the current Windows Logon. User must have been setup in System Manager. For DBAttach version 1.8 /TRUSTED can only be used for /BACKUP without /PATH.
  11. You can always ask SQL This will give you a list of all of the Reports in SIMS and the user that created them (Pre defined reports will be NULL fir user name) SELECT TOP 1000 [sims].[sims].[db_user].[login_name] ,[sIMS].[sims].[rpt_report_summary].[user_id] ,[report_name] ,[report_description] FROM [sIMS].[sims].[rpt_report_summary] FULL OUTER JOIN [sims].[sims].[db_user] ON [sims].[sims].[db_user].[user_id]=[sims].[sims].[rpt_report_summary].[user_id]
  12. Hi @PhilNeal There doesn't seem to be anything about this upgrade suspension on the Capita site, will details be posted there
  13. You'll only get this if the Document Server is installed to a non standard location Open an command prompt and navigate to (default location, yours may be different) C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net Document Server then enter dmconfig /test This will return where docstorage is pointing to.
  14. With Head's approval, put key loggers on the suspected users machines
  15. Have a look in SIMSDocumentServer_VDI-A50113.config Usually in C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net Document Server Make sure the docroot and protocol is correct Check that the folder structure for docstorage is correct for the new machine Restart the docstorage service then open SIMS and redo Doc Management Server settings
  16. SLG and Partnership Xchange would do this for you, I wouldn't recommend hosting Partnership Xchange yourself though
  17. There's more on Commandreporter here if it helps http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/45448-sims-command-reporter.html
  18. This is totally training and school policies, if staff aren't completing this, it's not an issue with the system. Same would apply to registers. Any SIMS user can edit Homework if required if they are assigned to either class teacher or reg tutor permission groups, you could make admin add a hand-in date, probably wouldn't be right though...
  19. In the Minimum System Requirements (Updated May 2013), Capita still states .Net 4 is required for SIMS Looks like 4.5.1 changes the existing 4 install From Installing the .NET Framework 4.5, 4.5.1 •The .NET Framework 4.5 and .NET Framework 4.5.1 replace the .NET Framework 4. When you install these versions on a system that has the .NET Framework 4 installed, the assemblies are replaced •Uninstalling the .NET Framework 4.5 also removes pre-existing .NET Framework 4 files. If you want to go back to the .NET Framework 4, you must reinstall it and any updates to it. (See Installing the .NET Framework 4.)
  20. Just search Supportnet on the home page for the release you are looking for, eg Summer, it gives you a link to the Summer 2013 release news item with links to the SIMS and Discover downloads and passwords...
  21. It's a 'feature', it's been doing that for ages and has been reported to Capita. We usually just end it and attach the existing database if we're migrating.
  22. That's the installable ISO that was expected in Spring 2013, it's been delayed several times...
  23. If it stores SEN data that you don't have archived elswhere, it's a lot more than 7 years.
  24. We've been told by November, it's very late this year.
  25. Read Chpt 2 in the "Managing SIMS Users, Groups and Databases" handbook (Syaman.pdf), accessible via the Document Center in SIMS, this takes you through it. It may be worth adding to your staff AUP that they will not leave unlocked workstations unattended as enabling this means that there is no password protection for SIMS access in an unattended machine...
