Thank you, that has worked. I have a website filter on this iPad to prevent YouTube access, and this seems to create a Global Proxy, I didn't know that. Very useful, as I would have never sussed it out.

A profile has been installed, but it's been removed and it's still like this.

I have a lot of iPads all set up with Proxy settings in, but am having problems with one that isn't connecting to the internet, and when I go into the network settings section to check the proxy is right, the whole section is missing. It's an older iPad Mini, so it's as up to date as it will go on ios 9.0.3 but I have factory reset it and the same thing has happened again. Not really sure what else I can try? Anyone seen this before?

Yes, it is an automatic forward. I also have one and mine is fine, so it's not a generic rule against all auto-forwarding. I've given her email address an alias, and that seems to have resolved it but I would have liked to work out what was causing it.

Has anyone had any problems in the last few days? One of our staff has a school gmail account, and a local authority Outlook account. She has a forward setup from Gmail to the local authority and reads all her emails in Outlook This worked great until 9am yesterday, when the emails starting bouncing. We can send email directly from her gmail to outlook, but the fowarded emails are all bounced. I've looked in Gmail and it appears to me that this is a problem at the council's end, but of course, they believe it's on our gmail side, so we are at an impasse. I've attached a screen shot, can anyone tell me what they think, gmail problem or local authority?

You can do account settings and restrictions. If it's in Accessiblity it maybe that you can't block that.

You can block access to settings and/ or restrictions using Meraki.

I use the free Mosyle on 90+ ipads and it works great. Can't see any point in paying for something else to be honest.

Breaking licensing rules because I want an older version of the app? I have lots of copies of the license and I am paying Swiped On £400 a year for the privilege of using an app that doesn't work now that they have updated it. I'm not clear on which licensing law I am breaking. The app was purchased with a VPP license, and the iPads don't have AppleIDs on them. I did a manual backup using Apple Configurator to my Mac, but when I restored it, the App wasn't restored - presumably because you can just redownload them from the App store. But obviously that would get me the latest version and I want the old version that I had.

We use this app at two schools where I work. The first school only use a single iPad and it works great. At the second school we use multiple iPads and we are finding that they don't sync with each other. If a visitor logs in on iPad A, then they can't log out on iPad B, and more worryingly the Evacuation Lists don't update. I've spoken to Swiped On a lot who say we need to open the firewall, and I've also spoken with our IT department who have said that some of the traffic is not being correctly directed through the proxy so they are blocking it as if it was correctly going through the proxy the firewall is open. Is this working for anyone else who relies on a proxy? Bev

Major flaw in my plan! It would appear backups don't backup apps anymore, presumably because you can redownload them. But obviously I can only redownload the latest version and I am in need of the older version.

I have an iPad 2 with an older version of our Visitor Book on it (SwipedOn) - this version works perfectly. I need to put the app onto a second iPad, but the version that I can currently download has a bug in it, not all of the traffic goes through the proxy and it gets blocked by the council's Firewall so we don't get an up to date list of visitors on the iPad. This is a pretty big bug and so I want to stick with the older version. Is there any way to copy it off the iPad 2, and onto an iPad Mini (also ios 9 but obviously not the same model of iPad?) Would a backup / restore work to a different model? Bev

I didn't pay anyone to setup Lightspeed - we pay £5/per device / year. To be fair, I don't think I've set it up 100% correctly but it is working and doing what we need without a setup cost! I also use Mosyle at another school and find that even easier, although I don't have those iPads linked to pupils and Apple Classroom.

Currently, if the head teacher has a visitor into school, or the governors visit school, I am asked to 'put them on the wifi', this involves entering both the password and a proxy. I have been asked by the head to investigate a guest password so that visitors can be given easier access to the wifi. It wouldn't be open, the password would be distributed from the office to specific visitors. However, it is true that their devices could have an infection, but that's the case currently. I am just trying to find the best way to do this.

I suspect you are correct that it shouldn't, but there is only one DHCP range.

We have Ruckus and Smoothwall. Smoothwall has a proxy.pac file which gives out a proxy that requires Windows Authentication. We also have another proxy option without authentication that we use for iPads etc. I am trying to set up a guest wifi network, and can point the Guest Network to the Proxy.pac file automatically - that is sort of working - but it's picking up Windows Authentication proxy. I've tried uploaded a WPAD file directly to ruckus which just returns the other Proxy, but it seems the original proxy.pac file is over-ruling the wpad file. Is it possible to put an 'if' into the proxy.pac file to say, if there is no Windows Authentication to use the other proxy? Or can it detect which wlan we are connected to and use a different proxy depending on that? I can see how to do it by IP Range but not either of the two things that I need. thanks Bev

We can't access gmail through our proxy, but if I use the council's general proxy then it is accessible. I've checked in Smoothwall, and I'm getting this message? Any ideas how I can resolve this. - https://mail.google.com/ Error Error - DNS lookup failed. Check the spelling of the URL.

If this guide is still available i'd love a copy.

I wish I could do that, we have desks where the monitor is mounted on the lid of the desk and they fold away, so there is no room for the NUC next to the monitor. It has been a big mistake for us, one I regret on a daily basis. Most headphone connectors have broken, cables are impossible to tidy and if you do excessively cable tie then it's a nightmare to replace a cable if one fails, and they get knocked on the floor on a regular basis (even though they are cable tie'd to the mounts). Not something I will do again!

Shine a light into the port, or into the actual cable?

We have a portable classroom which is connected to our main building via a Fibre connection. There are workmen in the field between the 2, installing another portacabin, and the internet has gone off in the existing portable. I suspect they have cut through the fibre, is there anyway to check? Bev
