Installed it on a ntablet that we brought last year from Novatech Sadly res is at 1024 x 600, so had to hack it to run at 1024 x768 VERY disppointed that I can't sign in to the music, video xbox apps. It's only allowed in the us and I think three othe countries. May I ask why?, the UK is enabled for all the zune and xbox services, just cant see why this as been disabled. Gusse I will have to wait for that.... I did manage to actually get the music store etc to run, change my location to USA in the windows settings. Just will not let me log on because my Windows Live ID account is a UK account, not a USA one. Next step - get work to buy some nice tablets (slate of course) with docks, wireless keyboard and mouse. I'll say the same one has the Windows Devloper units, they have a nice i5 in it! best speced one I have seen, but they will not be cheap through.

Ip address plan. How is your network setup?
pritchardavid replied to dany2010's topic in Wired Networks
An example how I have set ours up (example, not real data of course) Switches 10.140.81.1 - 10.140.81.50 (we only have 40 switches, I have left 10 IP addresses spare we of course can be increased at a later date if ever needed) Wirless Routors 10.140.82.1 - 10.140.82.30 (we only have 20 wireless routors, I have left 10 IP addresses spare we of course can be increased at a later date if ever needed) Printers 10.140.83.1 - 10.140.83.30 (we only have 20 printers, I have left 10 IP addresses spare we of course can be increased at a later date if ever needed) Servers 10.140.84.1 - 10.140.84.30 (we only have 25 servers, I have left 5 IP addresses spare we of course can be increased at a later date if ever needed) IP Cameras 10.140.85.1 - 10.140.85.30 (we only have 25 printers, I have left 5 ip addresses spare we of course can be increased at a later date if ever needed) ----------------------------------------------- The range for example 'servers' have the range 10.140.84.1 to 10.140.84.30 excluded form the DHCP scope so no DHCP client can take any of the IP adderess used in that range. The exclusion range can be increased if you get more devices than you have in the original exclusion range. This is done the same way for each type of networked devices. Having lots of different ranges are better in my opinion because you can expand better. If you just one range for example 10.140.81.1 to 10.140.81.254 and want to keep the same type of devices together you might over lap the devices IP address at one point, doing it there own range allows you to expand without any worry. All our DHCP clients then just you the DHCP scope to get any IP addresses that havent been excluded from the DHCP scope. Use to be a big massive mess before I joined the school, never use to know any of the IP addresses for anything! Hope that helps EDIT - DAMN other people beat me to it!!! -

given up with this, everywhere can stay on the old version , I have so given up, its installed on our deployment image. It will of coure in time be update for a when when I create a new image and the computers are reimaged. I don't like deploying stuff because some stuff just don't want to install on certain computers or it keeps trying to install certain software on each powerup or it won't uninstall for example java (that caused massive problems!) -
Prices doesnt seem that bad! CleverLCD Touch TFT LCD monitors for computer use Can you get cheaper pricing? Would like to get at least 70 inch ones. Thinks if we were to go for this we would need 6 or 8 at one time and another 10 at another time (cant remember how many new classrooms in our new building is)

Any one got any expercience with a Intel Modular Server (MFSYS25) This is the model with 14x 2.5 inch hard drives We are now ruuning out of space (we only have 146gb models) Anyone know if we can just take a hard drive out and replace it with another? the hard drives are setup as RAID5 Also do the hard drives have to be the same model and firmware? (If that the case, hope not, it a big job for half term, and that if they agree to upgrade all the drives)

Yep any educational institution for a san cert, you need to create the the cert request (so for you in exchange with at the end of the wizard you should have all you san names) apply for the cert order order, has soon as soon as you get your cert order email with the order number make a support ticket and state you would like a free san cert and write down the following san name you need along with your order number.

What are you guys planing to deploy for the new ICT? I have deployed the following so far - Small Basic (This is free) - Kodu Game Labs (This is free) Going to deploy - Visual Basic Pro 2010 SP1 (Free through DreamSpark) - Expression Studio Ultimate (Free through DreamSpark) - Windows Phone SDK - Android Devlopment, probs looking at Esclipe, unless we can get it working with Visual Studio 2010 Any other software ideas? Also is it best to have the Windows SDK with Visual Studio? This is going to be made with APP-V, so looks like Visual Studio, Expression Studio, Windows Phone SDK will have to be one package because of all the SDK and intergration between the products, does that sound the right thing to do?

Has you brought a wildcard cert for you domain it wouldnt match the internal name of the exchange server for example My internet address of our exchange is mail.theockendonacademy.com Our server is called for example mail or exchange Now they certificate you have will only match the outside world address, so anything for *.theockendonacademy.com For the internal address i would find *.theockendonacademy.com eithier but the internal domain name is diffrent and that it doesnt you the domain address at the end So you need *.theockendonacademy.com (outside) mail (inside) This is why I wouldn't get a wildcard for exchange, I would have got a SAN certificate. or it could be the case that you need to setup your outlook users to use you outside address instead of the internal address if possible I think this is your problem, hope that helps

Is this job now filled?

Wonder what up with the large wage bracket there? £16,830 - £21,519 - Thats a heck of a difference!

Thanks, but I did solve this Apprentlly if you use SAN names you need to enter the one on the subject because it gets bypassed. With exchange 2010 do you have to use the exchange certificate wizard, done mine through iis, but when I installed the new cert and when into the exchange manager it was missing iis in the available services for the new cert (had everything else through)

Glad it's working for you now

It may not be compatable with your 2008 server Is the 2008 server 64bit? Is the 2003 server 32bit? If so I think I might know the problem, there are two system folders in windows if its 64 bit, so you might have to copy the dll the syswow64 instead

Ok, im silly, just a restart of the server done the trick. EDIT: Ok maybe not completey solved Still getting 'the server name on the certificate is incorrect' when I remote into the server(s) as remote.{domain}.com Would it help adding remote.{domain}.com to Subject Alternative Name Section, even through it's on the sybject name. It's just that everything else is working that's on the Alternative Name Section.

I have got a new certificate today for our remote servers from ipsca I made the subject name remote.{domain}.com Also the other names (SAN) remote remote01 remote02 remote01.{domain}.com remote02.{domain}.com Now im getting 'windows does not have enough information to verify this certificate' errors under the security details This happen an all of the names above when I remote to the server The only time this doesnt happen is when I remote on the server using the 'remote' server name. With this I get 'the server name on the certificate is incorrect' (name in the cerificate from the remote computer) 'remote' Why is there a problem? Both servers have this certificate installed in under personal and remote in the cert mmc. And also activated in the remote host settings and remote app. the name of the farm is remote.theockendonacademy.com the name of our website is theockendonacademy.com the name of our domain is theockendonacademy.com So we should be able to connect to any of the two servers using eithier - remote - remote.{domain}.com - remote01 - remote01.{domain}.com - remote02 - remote02.{domain}.com Any ideas? Many thanks

I think it is quicker from what I remember, I done this so early on with the windows 7 rollout. Think I used it without the man profile to start with the first IT room, then changed my mind and built the image with the man profile. So can't really tell. But I think its the way to go. I havent had to really worry about chaning the profile, nothing really changes. Only problem I have had when our ISP decided to change our external IP addresses so our mail links didn't work. I never setup the exchange up. I would have used the website name, like it is now . Only other thing that has changed is the name of the fileserver, use to be called server-7, now called fileserver on our new domain. Other than that, nothing will change. Yes the next office the start menu links will change, but I would only deploy the next office in the new image. Any other apps are app-v apps, and that gets added automaticlly to the start menu

Whats the new features in impero then? Also got a good one here! Our head of ICT teacher went to BETT. She got intrested in DreamSpark, they told her it was free. Come Monday she asks us to sign the academy up for it, its not free!. The Cost is $99 on theirt website. I phoned Microsoft up, they told me this was changed this week, it use to be complety free. (Already knew it use to be free, as I signed the school up for this before, but it just didnt get new, plus its expired to) But surely they must of known that the was going to add a cost for this the next week after Bett, why give incorrect information out

We do this, not by a script through When I made our deployment image I just copied over the mandatory profile with the correct security permissons and set the profile location on the users. I have done this on the whole network, we have no problems. Also changed where the start menu and desktop location on a folder on the c:\. This meant they cannot copy or delete files on the desktop. Had no problems doing this, works pretty quick too. Only thing of doing this is to make sure your profile is setup extually the way you want it or you would have to copy it over to all the computers. Any more question, just give me a pm
