I had just over 2TB of data on the backup vault and for the month it dashboard estimated it approx £56 The trail I had has now ended so I'm left deciding if I want to carry on or think of another solution.

Are you using Backup Vault, Site Recovery or Both?

I am trying to update SCVVM from Rollup 8 to Rollup 9 and I'm struggling a little bit. Windows Update failed so I downloaded the update to apply manually. During the install it errors - Failed to open XML file C:\Program Files.............\VmmExtEvents.Man system error -2147024786 Google turns up nothing usefull other than something for Rollup 4??? Anyone come across this? Cheers

I've signed up for a moth free trial so I can get a rough idea of the true cost - did a small test and 13GB worked out at 11p (10p for storage and 1p for block transfer) My intention is to use Azure to hold monthly backups so looking at 2-3TB Have backups happening this weekend to determine if the costs etc

DPM with a NAS for onsite, just trialling with Azure for offsite and impressed how it just works

Member of staff come in this morning wanting me to install the Sims Teacher App on the ipad. Fair enough, no problem - member of staff isn't confident with IT so more than happy to help. Come to install the App and when prompted for the password the member of staff cannot remember the password - OK not a problem, go through iforgot route. Come to the questions - they haven't got a clue what they put. So....... anyone any ideas how to gain control of an account they cannot remember any details for?

We currently use Smoothwall - had no major issues with it and overall I am happy with how it works etc. The current contract expires Jan 2017 - So how soon should I start looking? I could take the easy option and replace the Smoothwall appliance and renew support contract but I would rather see what other products are available and see how they compare to smoothwall. Cheers

Used AD groups and GPO settings for the redirections - Was a pain in the rear to manually put users into AD Groups for subjects/classes unless you find a method of automating it. - Plus gave me a headache thinking how it was set up which is my I opted for simpler setup - IMO Students into groups as per SIMS Class Code - 11D/Art, etc Student Class groups were then Added/Removed to CA Groups which had the GPO settings applied to them. I hope that all makes sense.

That was how the CA accounts were done here when I arrived - but started causing issues when some students were not doing CA work so had to manually change them back to normal accounts. From this Sept I have created separate accounts so in as Username.IT for IT CA groups and .HI for History etc. Have GPOs in place which block USB access and also block internet access should it need to be. Accounts are turned on and off at the teachers request.

Not quite sure where to put this post as it involves Windows 10, Server 2012R2 (NPS) and X802.1 Wireless I am using a Meraki wireless system which authenticates via Radius. I have 1 SSID for staff using Smoothwall as the Radius server and all versions of windows connect fine. The Student BOYD SSID uses Server 2012R2 NPS server for Radius Authentication and works fine for Windows 7, Mac, IOS, etc..... but any Windows 10 fails to connect. The only error shown on the Windows 10 Client is "Can't connect to this network" This happens to all versions of Windows 10. - I have tried disabling TLS 1.2 on the W10 client (as read some issues with Radius and W10 and update 1511) but still no joy. So...... could it beNPS configuration issue? If so, why only W10 issues? or...... is it a W10 issue? If yes, why does it work with smoothwall? Any advise welcome :-)

Does the all staff group contain other groups?

As @free780 mentioned, use a wmi filter on the gpp. I use one and works fine. Just means you have to maintain 2 start menus, one for 64bit and one for 32bit.

I started with a clean image and installed application after the OS install but recently moved to a hybrid just like @Norphy.

Last September we moved to a managed print solution and all works well - which means we have large number of printers sitting around doing nothing. We have been toying with the idea of either selling them or finding a recycling company that will take them off our hands in exchange for cash. so... 1. For those who have moved to a managed solution what did you do with your old printers? 2. If selling... any hints/tips/gottchas? 3. If recycling... any recommendations? Cheers

Right...... installed updated from this MS tech doc - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2920151 Thought it was sorted as had a period of time where all VM stayed up and no random reboots when suddenly the other day, it started again - the latest random reboot as 01:50 this morning. Think I may try and look through more event logs and then call Microsoft to see if they can see what is going on.

I've registered but with little or no budget to do the things that need doing I am in two minds if I should go this year.

Did this last summer. Started in the previous Nov/Dec, took time to try and understand the network and tried to resolved a number of issues. Decided end of Feb to start again from scratch. - Left the cabling/switches alone as this worked - plus I figured I could look at this after the network went live. (in hindsight I wish I had taken time to look at first - some niggling little issue appearing) Started planning on paper what needed to be done (Information gathering exercise such as IP Details of any connected device - Looked at New internal domain name, IP Scheme, Server Names, naming convention etc..) and in what order things had to be done. Had regular meetings with Head of IT so I could keep him up to date with progress and any ideas I have. Also good way of getting feedback and finding out of what works best for staff etc. At the beginning of May I started creating a small test network with a server (HyperV) and a number of different workstations/laptops - I imported some GPOs I wanted to keep and created some new ones from scratch. - Tested, Tested and then Tested some more! Also documented everything in a notebook which went everywhere with me. Asked staff to come and try new settings and feedback so I could make changes etc. Once happy with GPO, station builds etc.... I looked at data Migration. Exported current network VMs and ran on test network so I could run various tests on migrating of data for both exchange user data without fear of breaking my live network. D-Day - shutdown current VMs and exported them for safe keeping (incase of emergency etc) Imported new VMs, tested connectivity added some workstations to make sure all working - then migrated data. - this took couple of days. Once happy with migration, then started reimaging workstations with new image. The one thing I didn't test as I couldn't was Hyper-V Cluster and teamed nics. Also reinstalled Smoothwall from scratch with new settings/IP Address. Everything worked fine until the start of term where I had an issue with the teamed nics - Thankfully managed to get it resolved fairly quickly. Currently have an issue with Wifi and cabling/switching infrastructure - I had intended to look at this after the new network was up and running. Changed Wifi from using a shared key to X802 authentication so It works nicely with smoothwall - works will if you don't move around - I am investigating this at the moment. Some areas of the school are slow - this is partly down to old switches (100mb) and due to the fact some switches are daisy chained! So...... definitely doable - just make sure you test, document and keep staff informed.
