Thinking ahead to September and if we are still in partial closures and limited to when students can come into school - and how best to give new Year 7 and Year12 users their IT induction. I’m thinking video with generic instructions on how usernames are structured so they can workout their own usernames. When it comes to password I am think using parts of their DOB and back end of their Post Codes and possibly a word of some kind. - (need to check with the folk from Salamander if this is possible). AUP can be sent electronically via adobe Sign. Is this a good idea or a bad idea?? Cheers

Not sure if this is the right place to post this - Mods, please move if needed :-) Have 3CX running on Server 2019 and normally I wouldnt bother with a certificate as I am normally the only one accessing it, but since lockdown, I have needed some staff to access the webclient. Downloaded latest version of Win-Acme but I cannot do http test as port 80 isnt open, plus 3CX doesn't use port 80 for anything, so this leave me with DNS verification. Instead of adding the DNS TXT to our external DNS and wait for things to replicate - I wondered if I could cheat and use Windows DNS and add the TXT I already have our external domain name as a DNS Zone on our internal servers so names point to internal IP Addresses. Added ServerName as a new domain so I now have Server.DOMAIN as a Zone. I tried adding _acme-challenge as a TXT record and also tried added _acme-challenge as a Domain do I then have _acme-challenge.server.domain and then added the TXT record Neither of which work...... Any one else use 3CX (Windows) and Lets Encrypt - if so how do you do the SSL? Cheers

Currently looking at SharePoint with a view to migrating Shared Docs online and have a couple of questions about SharePoint. 1. Is there anyway to stop users from adding/editting pages - but allow them to upload documents etc? - eg. Only Site admins can add pages. I've gone into SharePoint Admin -> Settings -> Pages and removed the ticks from Allow Users to create Pages and allow commenting - but my test user can still add pages 2. Can you map a network drive to connect to a sharepoint site? (I personally wouldn't do this, but I've been asked if it is possible) Cheers

This is what I have said to out SLT - which they have approved. Still actually waiting to hear if and when they want us in school.

My school has been open supporting students from key worker - thankfully I’ve been working from home. From 1st June our staff are allowed in to prepare resources etc as we having year 10 & 12 in from the 8th June in classes for 10. I’ve asked about IT support what if there are issues with equipment etc and they hadn’t thought about that or us - which makes me laugh as in a teaching staff meeting, they said for those year 10 & 12 remaining at home can watch the lesson online via a steamed lesson. They asked me if it was possible and I said no as we didn’t have equipment eg webcam - so how they going to stream lesson I have no idea. Hoping SLT say we can stay remote working as my technician has to travel over an hour on public transport and I have a 7 week old baby - so neither of us really want to have to go back.

We use both SMW and teams. Use SHW to post all work - so parents an keep an eye on what is work is being set. Any materials students require are uploaded to teams and info posted on SWM Not all staff or students use Teams - but for those that do, posting resources and questions on teams saves on emails between staff and students.

You can run the hrml5 and default web app side by side. HTML5 will automatically pick up any published apps. In iis I changed the default page to the HTML5 page.

I looked at a number of them to be honest - when testing. Used this one to install http://microsoftplatform.blogspot.com/2018/01/html5-client-for-microsoft-remote.html?m=1 Will post the one from here (when I find it) I used to customise it slightly to add the school name as there is very little in the way of customising the logon page.

Just been on our Office 365 admin portal and noticed the Teams setup status was showing as Not Assigned to my students. I do not have Skype Assigned to them but I have Teams etc.... When I have added Skype to some users, they then show as completed. Do I really need Skype assigning to Students?? Cheers

When you run these systems: How do you connect the PC/Webcam to the meeting/video call - has a member of staff been on hand to connect the call? Has a member of staff remained in the room whilst another member of staff has taught the lesson remotely? To give you idea of what I am faced with - deputy thinks Tenvis cameras will do the job! Has the following the email this morning from Deputy about using video cameras in a few teaching rooms. First, the deputy likes to tinker and considers himself a 'techie' person and thinks what he can do at home will work in school. I have lost count the amount of times I have told SLT about not using Zoom as we have Teams - but they do what they do best - ignore people! Anyway I haven't a clue where to start on such a system - so I am asking my fellow edugeekers if they can think of a solution to the above. Cheers

Wondering if PDF document with come sections for parents to complete would be better - that way they can be added to the students SIMS.net record.

Our Head of year 7 would like to change from Paper based capture forms to electronic versions. She has asked if we can do this using MS Forms or possibly by the school website and a wordpress plugin. Apart from making sure data is secure etc.... Has anyone else gone down this route and what have you used? Cheers

We have given staff online training via Teams on Team and I have pointed staff to Microsoft YouTube videos for Teams and PDF documents.

Spec for 2019 are quite high - as I was going to move from a Hybrid Exch 2013 to Exch 2019 but due to specs moved to Exch 2016 instead. @fiza I did it on Both - had an existing single RDS box which I install it on and when I replaced that server with 2 RDS newer boxes I installed from Scratch.

Also - if you go to a user area with Teams Admin, you should see Show Policies. If you click on one of those it should show the polcies applied to that user. User Policy Package - when you click edit, it should allow you to select Education (Secondary school student) That will apply all the student policies to that student. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/MicrosoftTeams/manage-policy-packages

On your Admin area for Teams, of you look at Policy Packages it should show the packages avaiable. You can then click on them and it should show the policies.
