Had a similar issue with HP ProOne 600 and turned out installing them intel chipset driver cured it. Thought I had installed them on SCCM but looks like I must have missed them off.

I've been looking at similar things as I have some servers that need replacing and I'm thinking am I a dinosaur for wanting to keep everything onsite (with the exception of Office 365 emails) I have 23 VMs running across 3 Hyper-V Hosts and all VMs are on central Storage server using SMB3 shares. Yes I need to budget for things such replacement server costs, electric etc - but how does this cost compare to running things in the cloud? For those people who have moved VMs to Azure and Data to OneDrive/SharePoint - how to you back things up? Also.... what have you moved to cloud and what have you kept onsite? Cheers

Can I run a mixture of 2012r2 and Server 2016 in the same cluster? A bad afternoon is turning into an even worse evening!! Raid Battery needed replacing - so shut server down and replaced battery - when powered server up it screwed the config HP P380 Gen8 dont support Server 2019 and to save me having to download a 2012r2 ISO - can i Install Server 2016 and make it part of a 2012r2 Cluster?

Hoping that would be the case.... Il temporarily swap it out and then put a proper replacement in when we back in Jan.

School now finished - and we are closing at 5pm until the 6th Jan!! Drive failed in one of Hyper-V servers - HP 146GB 15K drive and I only have a spare HP 300GB 10K drive!! I know size of drive will be ok as it will only use 146GB (the rest will be wasted but I can live with that!) Now the question is, can I temporarily replace the faulty drive with a different speed drive?

Interestingly I have 3 HP severs where 2 of they are reporting battery issues - I'm guessing these are approx 8 years old as i have been here 5 years and they in place when I arrived. Thankfully I am replacing the batteries either tonight or tomorrow in all 3 HP servers.

Dont use chrome book or GSuite - but when I enquired with my account manager at smoothwall about Layer 7 filtering I was told Layer 7 used to be a paid upgrade to the system but is now standard. They added it to my licence and was able to deploy as per their KB article.

Yes, still works in 1909 - but you need to edit the version on 1909 as it changed compared to 1803 - so you cannot use the 1803 file on 1909 (if that makes sense)

Current have 27 VMs running across the 3 hosts - 6TB in storage, so I am thinking I still need 3 hosts for the moment as I hoping to combine some services and slim down the number VMs overtime. Did spot some nice HP 1U Gen9 servers on ICT Direct which look like they would do the job Edit: --- Just as I am posted the previous bit, the Principal just popped in to ask for a meeting in January to look at the 5 year plan (well they asked for the next 12-24 months) and to talk about budgets etc. - Looks like I am going to be told to tighten the IT Support belt and see where I can cut costs!

Our current Hyper-V Cluster has 3 hosts which are approaching 8 years old and our Storage server is nearly 6 years old - so I am looking at replacement options. Host and Storage server all have 10GB Intel SFP+ Nics which will be moved over to the replacement servers. I am thinking the cheaper option is to replace the hosts and storage server with 3 replacement hosts with lots of local storage and configure the Hyper-V Cluster so the hosts use local storage. My questions are...... A) If I go down the route, how does the replication side of things work in terms of failover? B) How does Veeam cope with this kind of setup? C) Any reason why I should not consider this setup? Cheers

Thanks for the offer - sadly we are an Office 365 school. I do have a php form which we use to display notices for students - Didnt think about using that, but I could try alter that to collect details and email to staff.

Been approached by a member of SLT to see if the following is possible. Is there such a system where staff can either email or fill in a online form with notices and then every Friday morning, an email is sent out to staff with all the notices from that week. Happy to look at both Open Source and Paid options. Cheers

I user Adobe User Licences here (first year of doing this) and have 650 licences - which is enough for all KS3, KS4 and KS5 exam classes and Staff who need Adobe. This leaves me with some spare to assign as needed. Set up Adobe to use Azure for Authentication and then I do the following: I assign users to local AD Groups which are then sync'd to Azure using AD Connect. I then run the Adobe User Sync tool (also have it schedules to run at midnight) which then adds users from the Azure Group into Adobe Group and assigned the relevant Licences/Package. Users then sign in using Federated ID and their Office 365 details. Seems to work well and had no real issues.

Use to use EmcoSoftware shutdown software initially has some issues where it randomly stopped shutting down machines on occasions which lead to SLT complained about computers being left on. Since we have Impero I switched to using this as I could set a couple of shutdown options. 16:00 shutdown computers not in use. 16:30 shutdown IT Suites/LRC 18:00 Log off all remaining computers and shutdown - building closed by this time. Yes - expensive option to shut down computers but it works and keeps SLT happy

Well it turns out I had exchange 2013 installed on a 2012r2 server - why I thought I had installed 2016 I have no idea Anyway....... Decided to move to Exchange 2016 and not 2019 due to the requirements of Exchange 2019. Exchange 2016 isnt support on Server 2019 so had to install Server 2016. Migration went very well - used this site https://www.kerneldatarecovery.com/blog/step-by-step-guide-for-migrating-exchange-server-2013-to-2016-part-1/ Also downloaded the latest version of IISCrypto and set to Best Practice - to make sure TLS and SSL set correctly and ran a SSL Labs test and scored an A Once migration completed, I then re-ran the Hybrid Config and changed settings to the new Exchange 2016 server and all working fine. Uninstalled Exchange 2013 to remove and left behind settings - Job Done! Happy Days

Think I'll either leave the exchange box alone or if I do spin up a new Server 2019, I will be putting Exchange 2016 back on.

Server OS is currently 2012r2 and was planning to update OS to 2019 to match the rest of the servers once I have finished swapping over to 2019. I've read that in place 2012r2 to 2019 with Exchange installed is not a good idea, so I was thinking whilst I was installing/updating the OS, I may as well as update Exchange.

I would happily remove it - when I looked at possibly removing it 2 years ago, I read somewhere that it was advisable to keep it for ease of management of accounts - especially as we also use Azure connect. If I did go down the route of removing it, I presume Powershell would be the best way to make changes to O365 accounts? Would also need to check with the people at Salamander about how they would go about create accounts etc.

What is the best way to upgrade a 2012r2 server with Exchange 2016 to Server 2019 and Exchange 2019? No mailboxes exist on the on prem exchange box - It is in a hybrid config and used purely to manage things. - trying to remove it altogether will probably cause a bigger headache than upgrading things. Thinking the way to go would be by installing new Server 2019 and then installing Exchange 2019 and then moving roles over. Anyone done this and willing to share any guides/notes/tip/gotchas? Cheers
