If I were you, I would Grab a copy of the sims installer files from you sims sever to do a manual install on the workstation. Take a copy of the connect.ini and delete the sims.net folder form program files and then reinstall sims.net manually by running simsinst.exe and the copying the connect.ini back. Leave Solus as is, at that will take care of future updates.

Yep - using latest version. So glad I'm not being mentally deficient due to start of term overload due to people's inability to plan. Next quick question - how to I go about getting updates?

Just had Paxton installed and I am merrily adding staff etc At the moment I am having to go into the card designer to print the badges which is really annoying as I have to click through all the names. On the Net2 Controller software - where you add users etc - there is a print card option. Users have a template assigned to them, but when I click on Print Card - nothing happens!! Currently running the Net2 workstation app on Win10 1803 EDU, and using a Zebra ZXP Series 3 printer. Any help appreciated as I need to add and print the new 6th Form Students on Monday. Cheers

We use Salamander to create users automatically with details from Sims.net Once the users and email addresses have been created we get an email with the details etc... We need to add these new email addresses into Sims.net for student for things like SHMW for Office 365 integration etc. So... does any know of a quick and easy way to enter email address on to students details within Sims.net - either by using Salamander or alternatively some kind of import/update within Sims.net? Cheers.

Currently use some ID Card Software for designing and printing our ID Cards - which also have a face crop feature, where it detects the face and only zooms in to show the face (eg. no shoulders etc) Currently adding users to Paxton and looking at the card designer, does anyone know if it has a similar face cropping feature? Many thanks

HDMI or VGA & USB (with audio) extender over ethernet
mdrabble replied to mdrabble's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
So will definitely need to use some kind of HDMI/VGA over Ethernet connection then...... -
Just revamped an IT room and removed the VGA/Audio cables which ran across the floor under rubber cable floor matting to a 65" touch screen TV. I want to move the Teacher PC to it is nearer the wall - so to avoid the cables on the floor again, but staff want the PC in the same position so the screen isn't easily visible to students Looking at about 20 meters (if I go down the benching and across the ceiling) but existing trunking is full, so would be a tight squeeze to run HDMI and I don't think USB will run that distance. Currently using Display Port/VGA adapter to come from the PC, so can switch this to Display Port/HDMI if needed. Can any recommend any HDMI or VGA with Audio and USB over ethernet extenders?

Seems they only do 48 Port switches in 500W or 750W - or at least that is all I can see on MSDist and 4Gon. And I totally forgot about the new external CCTV Cameras being added - need to check make/models, so 500W should be adequate I think.
-
I'm looking to replace some Non POE switches with POE versions so I can remove POE injectors and the need for additional power in some cabinets and to generally to tidy these cabinets. These switches will have a combination of Unifi NanoHD Access Points, Fanvil IP Phones, Unifi CCTV Cameras and very soon, some Paxton Controllers (not sure how many controller per switch at this moment in time, but likely to be between 2 and 4) Looking at Ubiquiti EdgeSwitches (so they are the same as my non POE switches) and have a choice of 250W, 500W and 750W So, how do I work out power requirements? - is it simply a case of looking at each device to see what power they require and then adding up all the device power requirements? Cheers

We are having 2 vehicle, 3 pedestrian gates - no idea how they are connecting them back to the school - will find out on a week Thursday.
-
I must admit this is unusual for us as normally I am always involved with anything which needs to go on the network. I think in this instance, as it is being managed by an external agency they were rushed to appoint contractors to get the work done in the summer and communications are not being pass on due to the school finishing for the summer.
-
Yep will be having Net2 on the external gates. I'll have a read of that PDF and look to setup IPv6 on that VLAN (fingers crossed)
-
What firmware version are you using? There was an issues with the 4.0.42.10433 firmware and dropped packets. Downgrading to 4.0.21 should fix it.

We are currently having all our external doors and gates fitted with Paxton Net2 kit and additional CCTV as part of a managed bid so I've little to no involvement until the installers turned up to start running cables and I started asking questions such as what kit they are installing and how are they planning to connect everything to the network - so far the answers have been very vague in that they are just looking at cable runs and have started to run fire alarm cables from the doors to the fire panels. From what I have found so far, they are planning on linking all the Net2 controllers together, so only one controller is actually plugged into the network etc, so as a precaution I have created a new VLAN and new IPv4 range so as and when new controllers are added or they decide to add each controller to the network then everything is in place to make life easier (or at least that is my train of thought) I told the installers I had a VLAN and IPv4 range configured ready for when they need to start plugging in the controllers etc. The installer pull a bit of a face and said he need IPv6 as they will be linking the controllers together - I mentioned I didn't use IPv6 but at a push I could see about setting it up. Currently I don't have any IPv6 setup and no idea how I would go about setting it up to work with IPv6 and VLANs. The company who are managing the bid/contract are in tomorrow so I am planning on grabbing everyone and insisting they explain what they are doing, how they plan to connect everything to the network they have no idea which Data Cabinets are at capacity Am I right in thinking they should be able to use IPv4? Cheers

Installing SIMS and Solus via SCCM - How I do it.
mdrabble replied to mdrabble's topic in Enterprise Software
Strange, works fine here - when I use to deploy via Solus, it always installed to Program Files and not Program Files (x86) which would have imagined it would have - so I kept it pointed to Program Files and had no issues. -
We have a school event where some staff and student have gone to Ecuador for 3 weeks and the trip leaders have said they would give parents updates on the tip and and where possible. The afternoon of the trip leaving they come to me and ask me if this can be done and can I do it!! Anyway, very quickly I created a Exchange Group, manually added parents emails in the group - set permissions do only staff can email the group etc. and told the trip staff to put the email group into BCC so parents cannot see other email addresses etc.... So to avoid this next time - how do other schools send trip updates to parents from the trip leaders which away? Many thanks

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Python 3.7 - is that not the shortcut location?? Have a look under C:\Program Files and you should see Python37

using InstallAllUsers=1 should install into program files I opted to use PIP so it would install the correct version instead of fiddling around with finding the correct MSI version.

Office 365 Emails for staff who get married and change name?
mdrabble replied to kennysarmy's topic in Cloud Services
Try running the powershell command as admin instead on opening powershell normally -
Just had a chat with some staff about a project run by the Institute of Physics about Improving the Gender Balance. We have had an email from them which is assuming automatic opt in if they dont have any objections. Part of the email they sent contains the following "we need to inform parents and pupils of their right to object to their data being process as part of the trial analysis. I am attaching a letter to share with parents to inform them of how the data will be used and a form for them to object. Please send this to parents of all pupils due to start years 9, 10 and 11 in September" The Data they have requested are Firstname, LastName, Gender, DOB, UPN This is a copy of their Privacy Notice they sent across. Am I right in thinking that they should asking for consent and not objections?
