  1. Nope, Haven’t set up any filters etc. I’m taking the drastic measure of rebooting the core switch to see if anything was stuck in the arp cache as it should just work.
  2. DHCP has plenty of addresses available, so that rules that option out - but good idea to check. So.... my brain is turning to mush...... put PC on different VLAN, PC works fine and gets a valid IP address put PC back on on desktop VLAN and it fails to get an IP addresses move PC to another part of network and works fine. Here is the weird part...... other side of the room is on the same switch and works fine, but even if I move the PC over to the working side, it still doesnt work........:confused: Anyone any ideas? Cheers
  3. Must admit not checked that but there should enough as lease times are approx 7 days and half the network been off due to half term - but that said, I’ll check that in the morning when I’m back in school.
  4. Well decided to stay late and try resetting the switch and it has confirmed that it is some kind of VLAN issue If I put the ports affected onto a different VLAN, the PCs pick up a valid IP address. Soon as I put them back on the correct VLAN, they fail to pick up a valid IP address. Which leaves me even more confused!! Nothing has changed on the config for the Core Switch or Edge Switch, so not sure what else to look at. I've clear the ARP cache of the core switch and that still did nothing - so as a last resort, I could try rebooting the core switch. But if anyone else has any ideas please give me a shout. Cheers
  5. Got a very weird issue..... I have switch which is refusing to handout IP addresses to computers but will happily give out IP addresses to my network tester. All switches are Unifi EdgeMax Lites (Black ones) running the latest firmware 1.9.3 I have VLANs in place, but not a VLAN issue as the network tester gets the correct VLAN IP I have tried rebooting the switch but problem still exists If I move the PCs to a different switch, they happily get an IP address. If I move a known working PC to this switch, it fails to get an IP address. So I am left scratching my head - why is the tester getting IP address but nothing else? Anyone got any other ideas i can try? Edit: Going to try resetting the the switch and reapplying the config tomorrow. Cheers
  6. Oh well….. congrats to the lucky winner
  7. @VeryPC have I missed the announcement where you name me as the winner
  8. Unifi have different flavour of switches. I use the EdgeMax Lites - available as POE and Non-POE versions which don’t need a cloud controller to manage them, but instead I use their NMS software to manage them. Can use web ui or cli to manage them fully manage them or the NMS to do most functions such as firmware updates, VLAN changes etc. 48 port versions come with 2xSFP+ and 2xSFP ports as standard but sadly the 24 port versions and lower only come with SFP ports which is a shame. Currently they don’t support stacking but do support link aggregation. - which is a reason I don’t use their 10GB fibre switch for my core - instead I have a DLink 10GB switch which was in place when I arrived 7 years ago and I added another to form a stack. As to then other (white) versions I couldn’t tell you about them as never used them. Hope that helps a little
  9. For a minute then I thought the YouTube link was the grand announcement haha
  10. Not quite we’re to post this question so thought would post it here as it an application question. Seen a job I am very interested in and might consider applying for. Would you put down now defunct Microsoft qualifications? Such as MCSE and MCSA on NT4 and server 2000 & XP? I know these show past knowledge and learning etc but are they relevant in todays applications/jobs? Cheers
  11. Just on train to Euston can someone give me clue which tube route to take please. I’ve Googled it give me Canning Town and I know in the past people have said to avoid this one. Cheers
  12. Turns out the Papercut Embed instructions were wrong on their Embed Document. Their instructions state you have to use a different URL for the log off - when so - Log on used http and logoff uses https. Chnage both the http (as per info from brother) and all working fine.
  13. I have just discovered a Dads Joke Podcast on Spotify...... I seem to be ill only during the working week.... So I went to the doctors and he said I have a Weekend Immune System....
  14. Yea, other than a mention of activating BSI nothing else jumps out.
  15. Just installed a couple of Brother MFC L9570CDW and have them more or less integrated with Papercut but having a couple of niggly issues which I wonder if anyone who has Brother and Papercut could help me out. Have got the signing in working fine, but when a user signs out, they are getting Connection Error 03 - which seems to point to Proxy settings, which is odd as proxy settings hasn't been enabled, so I am a little puzzled....... Also, on scan to email - have setup the MFC and can receive test emails but when I try and scan to my email, I am getting Authentication Error. Cheers.
  16. Reading some of the comments from another thread, especially the one from @hardtailstar about being the first to mention Tractor - i came across this on my FB feed which made me chuckle a little!

  17. Wonder how much I would get for that graphics card on ebay......... On a serious note, would make an awesome media server, gaming rig, HyperV test rig.
  18. @Driftingashore just sent you a PM with link for PDF config guide.
  19. @Driftingashore yea, well send a PM on Monday with details.
  20. Do you get any errors about deadlocks? We were getting errors and poor performance when registering being taken just with Sims.net We reported issue to ESS and they are aware of performance issues.
  21. Unifi - 44 x Nano HD APs with a Linux VM running as the controller. Use a Windows NPS server for Radius authentication with Dynamic VLANs, so depending which AD group you are in will determine which VLAN you are put on. Use the Unifi Guest Portal - with one time only passes which last 24 hours Works will with Smoothwall Only issue was a dodgy firmware release which has now been resolved. No real support other than on here and the Unifi Forums. It was cheap and has done the job for the last 4 years really well - so no real complaints. When I come to replace and have the funds, may look at something which can show me more information about traffic - which I could do with Unifi, if I had the Security Gateway up and running, but that caused some issues.

    New UPS

I have 3 UPS systems in the Server Rack which are approx 10 years old - so time to replace them with something newer. What is the best way to spec a UPS? Cheers
  23. Our governors use their personal email addresses for their Governors roles (even though I have said school email addresses would be better as more secure etc)..... anyway.... let me carry on. We have their personal email addresses entered onto Exchange/Office 365 as mail contact, so these can be put into a governors email distribution group and works ok. They do not have a school email address or any aliases in place.... However.... one of the governors has been in contact with school to complain about some emails being set to him from companies as if he has an school email address. His email address is blah@ntlworld.... and emailed being sent to him are addresses as name@schooldomain So this came as a bit of a shock to learn that Exchange/Office 365 is doing some kind or translation and forwarding on emails to his personal email account even though no school account/aliases exist or any settings in place to forward emails. I've now put mail rules in place to block external senders from sending emails to these mail contacts. Anyone come across this before?
  24. Does anyone know of any screens that have a freeze function on them? We have approx. 30 rooms with 65" Sharp screen with this feature and staff love it. (I wanted to replace all projectors with screens at the time but was over ruled and now they have realised this was a mistake as the other projectors are now starting to fail) Anyway.......the lease is up in just over a year and a bit on the screen, so I'm looking to purchase a single screen to replace a failing projector and use it as a test unit - but must have a feeze function on it (otherwise staff will complain!) Need VGA. HDMI - not too fussed about speakers as will be using separate speakers as staff complain about the speaker quality on the screens. Cheers
