Issue deleting folders with hidden files
mdrabble replied to mdrabble's topic in Windows Server 2019
Wow that was more painful that it should have been! Tried using CMD and PowerShell both insisted the files didn't exist. Opened 7zip - wouldn't let me delete them straight off - had to rename them in order to delete them. Cheers for hints and tip -
Issue deleting folders with hidden files
mdrabble replied to mdrabble's topic in Windows Server 2019
Just tried that and it a no go I'm getting "This file is no longer located in pathname. Verify the items location and try again. Just running an error check on the drive to make sure it is ok - but very puzzling. -
Just checking with our SIMS person if we can bulk import photos without any additional licenses - we take all the photos on the first day and then I use excel help create the basis of a script I can copy and run to rename the photos to their admission number. If when I have done that, we can bulk import into SIMS and then I thing SIMS -> Net2 is on the cards Happy days!!

I am trying to delete a user and for some reason there are some files which windows is either refusing to see and delete. I have a file called ~$ which I can only view via dos and dir /ah when I try and rename, delete, change attributes it tells me ~$ does not exist. I have another file called cw which windows can see but when I try and delete the file Windows tells me the file no longer exists. I've tried rebooting the server with no luck..... any other suggestions on how I can remove these files? Cheers

So far…..2 and the kids are not even in until Monday/Tuesday!! I’ve given staff access to password control - let’s see if they will use or use the easy option and send them to us! -
Is there a way I can remove Office activations for several users at once? Cheers

I have a EdgeMax Lite switch with a 10G link back to core working fine. I am unfortunately having to slave another switch off the edge switch as there is no way I can run new cables as the two sockets I am having to use is a floor sockets. On this extra switch there are 10 computers, so I thought I could configure the 2 sockets as a LAG port so I can get a 2gb uplink instead of 1gb and hopefully ease a potential bottleneck for these 10 computers. What’s the best way of configuring LAG ports as Trunk Ports as I am struggling to get VLAN bits working. Cheers

BOTS!!! Oh the shame

Network Upgrade Recommendation for Primary & Secondary School
mdrabble replied to Setro's topic in Wireless Networks
WiFi I use UniFi for WiFi and have had no issues - partly because I wait a couple of month before applying firmware updates - so managed to avoid some issues. Edge switches I went for UniFi Edge Switch Max Lite - these are the non cloud based version so I manage these locally but you have installed the unifi controller to manage them centrally. £300ish for a 48 port switch with 10gb fibre isn’t bad. £750ish for 48 port POE version isn’t bad either. Be aware 24 port versions don’t have SFP+ Support for Unifi kit is mainly via the community forms so keep that in mind if you need decent support. Core We have a DLink DCS-3600-32S which was in when I arrived, so added another one and stacked them - seem ok but interface is old (moans about flash being required) Firmware updates are ok but you would think they would update the interface to remove the flash bits! Both unifi edge switches and dlink switches can be managed by CLi which is easier. -
I installed a PCI Sata SSD card with 2 x M2 drives mirrors for the OS and then used then HP controller to create the array for data.

You can get some really good humane ones from Amazon which where a smoked plastic so you can see inside easily - bought 2 recently as had a spate of mice in downstairs bathroom and kitchen until I found the holes and filled them. Peanut butter spread works really well! -

Just had a new shiny S2D HyperV cluster installed and wondered how people who already use S2D install updates? Do you use Cluster Aware Updating or some other method? I understand that when a node has been rebooted it has to resync - understandably I’m not keen on breaking it so soon!

I'm editting credprovhost.dll.mui from C:\Windows\System32\en-GB It was working this morning, I logged out and suddenly said Other User. No updates applied so bit puzzled. Reimaging new machines works fine then they all have reverted at random times afterwards.
-
Rather annoying - had it working on 20H2 and suddenly machines are reverting back to "Other User" Anyone any ideas? Cheers

What would you do? C drive on SIMS server is running low.
mdrabble replied to TwistedHelixis's topic in Windows Server 2012
Let me know how you get on moving everything to a new server. This was going to a done in the next 2-3 weeks but I’ve put off now until a later date. Been asking Capita/ESS for support documents and all I get pointed to is their SQL migration area - which is great as the migration tool does migrate the database but nothing else. When I asked about Sims.net they sent me a link to 2013 iso image! And then told me to use solus. -
