Quick question for those running Storage Spaces Direct Looking at a 3 node cluster running Storage Spaces Direct. Each Node will 4 x 4TB drives for storage But not sure if I should go with 2 x 2TB SSD drives or 2 x 960GB SSD Drives for the caching layer. What SSD sizes are other people using. Cheers

Currently all 12 bays are full with 6TB drives in prep for becoming a backup server - was hoping the PCI Card with M2 SATA would work for the OS. Wondering if I can connect an SSD via the OOD Sata Port on motherboard.

Explains why I am struggling - so glad it isn't me thining I am missing something. Cheers.

I have a DL380p Gen8 server and the following card - https://www.startech.com/en-us/hdd/pex8m2e2 The blurb says But I'm unable to get the DL380p Gen8 Server or Server 2019 to see the card - am I right in thinking this should work? Cheers

We use Entrysign for visitors but also staff are supposed to sign in and out - we have sign in/out points at all doors. Our sixth form also supposed to use this for signing in and out as we also have sims write back. It can integrate with Paxton but entrysign can only pull info from Paxton so we keep them separate.

just downloaded Server 2019 iso without any issues

Yep tied that as still no joy. I’ve done a file search for .cer files and can only find my new cert. I’ve also tried Get-ChildItem -Path Cert:LocalMachine\MY And cannot see any trace of the thumbprint being reported as mismatched. Might remove the HTML5 interface and reinstall. Don’t remember it being this painful 80 days ago when I last replaced it!

Updated the certificates on our RDS servers which use the HTML5 interface. Updated certs using server manager - and show the correct thumbprint. updated the Cert on the Broker using Import-RDWebClientBrokerCert Cleared cache on browser but still getting Certificate mismatch error. The thumbprint shown on the error is not the same as the new certificate - Going to https://rds.domain/webclient/config/certbroker.cer allow me to download the cert and it show the correct thumbprint So I have no idea where else to check..... Anyone any ideas? Cheers.

[sims] inTouch - Sell it.... Advantages/Disadvantages

Like all systems, when it works, it works ok, but when it is down, it can be a nightmare especially when talking to support who want you to go through the standard fault finding steps even though as IT people we would have already done before contacting their support. Can only send 10mb attachments so in that respect can be a but limiting at times. It uses Office 365 as its backend and we have had 2 instances where we could receive messages via intouch but not send any. This did cause major issues during the time schools were due back after Christmas and then the Boris announced schools to stay closed. - ended up manually sending emails out to all parents! I contacted their support and they said all ok on their end - and after I kicked up a fuss and basically told them that Office 365 will be blocking the account then confirmed this and unblocked it saying their monitoring system was at fault. Like all things capita, interface could do with updating. Hope that helps -
Capita have sent me the Summer 2020 migration tools, so will be having a look at that and running a test run on in a test lab away from the network.

Planning to do a sims server migration this summer from server 2012 to server 2019 Along with updated sql version. Could I get away with simply installing a fresh copy of sims on a new server and then copy over and attach the database and then copy over odd folders like T4 and exams? Or is there more to it? Cheers

Looking at drives and I'm torn between using 2TB SAS Drives and 3TB SATA drives Spec'ing up a backup server for Immutable backups and I can get 12x2TB SAS drives cheaper than 12x3TB SATA Drives. Yes I know SAS drives would be better in terms of speed and better suited for servers etc but there is a big difference in terms of capacity as looking at the extra usable space with the SATA drives. The 3TB SATA drive is double the cost of the 2TB SAS drive, so is the trade off between SAS, SATA & cost worth the extra usable storage (depending of which RAID configuration I opted for)??
-
Yep that’s my plan just looking at current back up strategy and what to keep immutable and for how long. So I will effectively have 3 copies of the data (all on site and hopefully the new server will Be in another part of the school providing I can find a suitable location.

Not used SuperMicro boxes before and didnt even think about looking on that site

So I dig out an old HP DL380 Gen 5 server to try and use and a Linux based backup repository for Veeam 11 but it has only 1 usable disc. So rather than buying new discs, I'm thinking purchase a refurb server with quite a bit of storage - RAM and CPU dont need to be fancy as it is only running Linux. What suitable servers are out there with plenty of bays to accommodate discs but only 2U? And the more importantly doesnt cost and arm and a leg! Cheers

They purchased their system through Birchalls - but the system is from DayMark Safety Systems https://www.daymarksafety.co.uk/menupilot-kitchen-automation-platform/ As I said, I dont have anything to do with it but they seem happy with it, as the company (Birchalls I think) have been great in helping setup templates and showing them how to create labels.

Our catering manager has just had a system installed - some kind of android tablet and Bluetooth printer which is a thermal based one. I had no involvement in it but from what I understand she has meals setup in software, select item and it prints label with details on. Will ask her tomorrow about the system grab details etc and post them tomorrow.

I've taken the plunge and done a fresh install on a number of workstations from 1909 to 20H2 Since then I have noticed on the 20H2 machines are stalling on log off with Task Host is stopping the background taks. (\Microsoft\Windows\international\Synchronize Language Settings) My googlefu has turned up nothing - so has anyone else having these issues etc? Cheers.

How do people create/copy shortcuts for their start menus? I currently create them via GPO which can be time consuming but does mean they only get created if the software exists - so I wondered if there is a quicker/easier way of copying shortcuts for only installed software. Cheers

You could always arrange to borrow a demo unit for evaluation and do your tests and then send back.

I use nircmd - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html As part of a logon script which sets staff volume to 75% and students to 0 Works well.

How are you presenting the ISO? Are you doing it from within the VM or from the host/share? When I did 2012r2 to 2019 I found I have to copy the iso to the VM and open the ISO from with in VM. Annoyed me slightly as shouldn’t have to do that.

mdrabble replied to rfakes's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Using 3CX for almost 3 years now with no issues using Gamma SIP trunks. Fanvil 3GS and 4G phones for staff Yealink T46G with sidecar for reception Couple of Yealink W60P cordless phones for some areas. Only time I really touch it is when I need to change the name on an extension or add new phone. -
Domain Controller/Certificate Authority Move to new VM
mdrabble replied to mdrabble's topic in Windows Server 2019
Thankfully I don’t have to do any moving of roles as found a solution which seems to have worked a treat. Stop dfsr service Give admin full control of system volume information folder Move dfsr folder to a safe location Restarted dfsr service Dfsr folder was recreated and folders were resync’d Probably not the correct way of doing things but it worked.
