  1. Ok, will look at that. Thank you. Ben
  2. Hi guys and gals, What, if anything, do you use for keeping track of boarding house rooms etc.? We are having bit of a shift around here and it's now necessary for other members of staff (not directly related to boarding) to see if there are flexi rooms available on given dates etc.. Example, Mrs Miggins rings reception to enquire if her daughter can board on Monday. Receptionist logs into [insert room allocation software here] and can see that there are 4 flexi rooms free on Monday. Taaa daaah. Would the MRBS room booking bit software work with some tinkering? Am I better off using a simple excel spreadsheet? Ta very much, Ben
  3. Sorry to resurrect an old thread. Would any of the above programs be particularly good at Boarding House Room bookings? As in, being able to see what flexi boarding rooms are available etc.? Thanks in advance, Ben
  4. This is what I got when I enquired...
  5. Hiya guys and gals, I've tried searching but couldn't find anything relating to this. Apologies if this is already known. The vast majority of 'BYOD' here at the school are apple, either OSx or iOS. The vanilla RDWeb offering from MS does not natively support these devices which is bit of a problem for us. However, we have found a nice fast piece of software that makes it happen - Remote Spark. It's HTML5 and If i'm honest, I think it's faster than going in via the stock MS route. On top of this, the support is great (you get to speak to the one of the developers which is always handy). The software is here and available for a trial period at Remote Spark. We are drawing close to the end of our testing phase so will be purchasing in the next few days. If money was no issue, i'd have this as the only method of accessing RDWeb (for windows clients too). Hopefully that's helped somebody is the same situation... Ben
  6. Thank you very much GrumbleDook
  7. We use PASS/3SYS. It is very customisable and I can restrict most things.
  8. Thank you. Seems sensible. At the end of the day, if they wanted address details for malicious reasons, then they could be taken from school anyway.
  9. ...and what information do they have access to inside school? Addresses and contact details of parents (and therefore child, more often than not) and guardians etc..?
  10. Hi guys and gals, In terms of teachers accessing MIS from home, what data do you make available to them? What are the relevant parts of DPA that relate to this? So, we can allow access solely for report writing with no real identifiable/personal data. But, is there a good reason to allow access to things like DOB, contact details (including phone numbers and address) of parents/guardians etc.. Thanks in advance Ben
  11. Not got around to ebay yet, maybe in half term. Last chance here, £25 each. BARGAIN
  12. Also, backup the new files. I spent ages customising it then an update wiped it all out
  13. No interest at all? To the bay they go Cheers
  14. Hi guys, Following a wireless upgrade, I have about 14 of these units available. All working but could do with a firmware upgrade I imagine. I'm fairly sure the majority are V2 units. £30 each or maybe deal if buying in bulk. Cheers B
  15. It's ok, all sorted. I stupidly, erm I mean, it must have been google that deleted the pop3 account we use in the send connector. Oops. Silly billy
  16. I verified by domain by copying the required file to the root. I have not changed any MX or DNS records manually. However, my exchange server stopped sending email yesterday and i'm trouble shooting now (rather awkwardly over my phone). It seems to be a problem with authentication. Could google have done something? Just seems a coincidence?!?
  17. Hi guys, I've really only just started looking at this - and i'm obviously being blind. None of the google app pages really describe how this works. I can see via their videos that it's the normal google apps etc.. But how do you access them (from and end user perpective). Where do they go to log in? I can see there's an option to sync with AD (presumably for logins or email) but where on my domain name, do people go to log in (or can I create a subdomain and then redirect)? What exactly happens when I 'verify my domain'? As in, do google then play around with anything and am I likely to down the school website? We have exchange onsite and are happy using that - will this cause problems? Does anybody have something I can log into to see? Cheers, Feeling a bit silly - but it really isn't very obvious to me!
  18. All sorted - thanks. Managed to get 10 sticks for £75. Cheers
  19. Hi guys and girls, I'm looking for about 10ish sticks of 1GB or 512MB DDR-400 for a little bump in our oldest ICT suit. Anybody got some spare from an old refit/upgrade at all? Happy to pay... Cheers Ben
  20. I'm literally gathering quotes today. I'm really liking the Meraki kit so will probably go down that route (there are pros and cons to them all I guess). We are a fairly small school (200 students) and are only looking at about 20 AP's. However, this is all part of a bigger plan to arm all kids with an iPad. We need this project to be scalable and manageable. The Meraki kit seems to tick all the boxes so far - and is reasonably priced (in my mind anyway). So far, I have received quotes ranging from £12k to £15k. That is based on 20 AP's on a 3-year license agreement.
  21. That's great. Thank you. I'll pinch one of those youtube vids
  22. Apologies. No. I didn't think of looking under the 'regional' section. Thanks.
  23. Hi guys, I'm doing an assembly next week on e-safety. Cheeky I know, but doesn't anybody have any resources (powerpoints, videos) I can see/use?!? I want it to be fairly relevant, so maybe talking about BBM, facebook etc.. Not just boring old chat rooms and ancient myspace. The more 'fun' and 'interactive' the better Ta very much
  24. We use exclaimer here. The signature is strapped to the email upon leaving the server along with a generic disclaimer. I have created a custom signature that includes the school identity along with staff name and position plus contact details and hyperlink (pulled from AD). It is also handy for various marketing campaigns we have in mind. It's completely customisable and quite a powerful tool (over and above native exchange offerings). They do offer educational discounts. It was a viable choice for us as we are a relatively small school and I am only strapping the signature to staff emails sent externally. It gives a more effective, professional look.
