Bet you Senior School Techies don't get this!
Ben_Stanton replied to elsiegee40's topic in General Chat
Wow, I thought it was just me. They call me...Mr Ben. Year 7 straight through to 6th form. Don't really know how it started....I was introduced as Mr Stanton. Even the rest of the staff refer to me as Mr Ben now -
I rock climb, mountain bike and blow things outta the sky with my big gun - all very stress relieving! None of this football lark - that's a girls game that *runs and hides* (which incidentally i'm also very good at but dont think hide n seek can be defined as a real sport...yet...and I just started Bonsai as a hobby too)

Out of interest, I was tasked with a similar job. But this was for some educational software I was writing for my girlfriend (head of English). I used actual photos of students and then 'cartoonised' them in photoshop. Obviously, parental consent is a must in such situations... Here is a tutorial for similar effects; http://www.macmerc.com/articles/Graphics_Tips/209

We are an independant school - do we still qualify? If so, does anybody have infomation please...

We are set in a rather rural location on the outskirts of the local exchange. I don't remember what the 'recommended' limit is - around 2km I think - but i'm fairly sure we are a stonethrow past it. As a result, we only recieve a rather unstable, unreliable 2Mb line. At the moment, timeouts etc. are not that common but if all IT suites are occupied, there is a very obvious degredation in connectivity throughout the school. The old bottleneck/letency issue. So ideally, I want to increase the bandwidth. My development proposals involve instigating a higher area of coverage for wireless and the implimentation of sharepoint (or similar). With these future expectations in mind, I feel a more reliable and preferably - faster connection is essential. In my head I have three choices; 1. Stick as I am and wait for BT to upgrade the exchange (ha ha) 2. A leased line?!? (££££) 3. A secondary 2Mb ADSL line and some funky router that loadbalances. I appreciate this will not serve us a 4Mb connection, but the load balancing should 'give that impression' and resolve (not 100%) some of these issues. Or, have I missed some other alternatives...all comments welcomed Ben

The only 'surprise' I found was lack of a decent toy. It was some pre-formed plastic octopus crap. I remember the days when you used to build proper things, like a bike or a replica car (which I'm sure I could sit in). Plus, the eggs were so much bigger! I had to buy another 3 just to check! In all but one, it was some pre-formed junk - the other 'surpsise' I had to 'assemble' had 3 parts. Top middle and bottom! Sorry. Rant over. Choc still tastes gooooood!

It was stella's fault - she told me she loved me. She just seduced me, used me - then left me (along with the carrot chunks)

Lets say I open a packet of Rolos. I eat the first from one end - that then makes the rolo at the opposite end the 'last rolo' But what if I don't eat all the rolos, but open the opposite end and take the afore mentioned 'last rolo' out - is that still the 'last rolo' ? Or, should the correct definition of 'last rolo' be the very 'last rolo' left not consumed?!? Sorry to be philosophical so early.

Well, by my figuring - it should be available for download as of the 8th of February. I am in no way either a) admitting to downloading it or b) condoning the downloading of it. Views expressed are that of my own and not of the edugeek forum or any of its members, affiliates or sponsors! Although - somebody did manage to get the first 4 hours of 24 before it even aired in the states!

Any LOST fans out there? Maybe that's the answer we've all been waiting for. All the tests, the whole island facility has been the breeding ground for crack codename creators! I knew that polar bear had something to do with it - its Bill in true guise. All the clues are there - there has been codename hydra and a darwin!

....how big do you think the department is? Where do you think they get their inspiration? My personal feelings are split between Microsoft funding a huge international department with 100+ employees badgering away at inventive/meaningful and normally ambiguous and ludicrous codenames before then deciding on a final official name that is just as stupid. Or, do they pay bananas to one monkey with a crayon to flip through a thesaurus in Redmond? Lonestart, longhorm, bobcat, memphis, crossbow, aurora, and toaster to name but a few! But then I guess Intel and AMD are the same!

It may seem a bit petty, but I have real trouble whilst browsing down the forum name list. My eyes automatically jump to the forum moderators name as oppossed to the forum name itself. Is it a hassle to modify the forum name so it stands out more - a bit bolder maybe.... see attached

Is that just an empty chassis? What are the exact specs you are looking for? Could you not just go with a Chenbro or I could whip you up one of these... http://www.cybernex.co.uk/NAS_3U_detail.htm

Out of interest, how dead is the drive? Dead as in powering up but not being seen in BIOS or dead as in not even spinning up?

That's what you get for reading the post wrong! Really not a good day. Actually, really not a good week! It is all much clearer to me now - it didn't make much sense, that's why I queried it initially. Why on earth would you get somebody else to manage your system. Ben

Out of interest, what are the benefits of having your AP's managed externally via a 3rd party? What are the cases for and against? I'm not saying it's right or wrong, i'm just curious at the reasoning behind it... Ben

I've used stella phoenix on many occasions with very great success. I think yu can download a trial from the site... I have heard of some sites that provide cracks (whatever they are)... I of course have a fully legitimate copy and would not recommend anything other than that...

Or maybe they have been super sneaky and removed the stand/base plate and rotated the monitor only to fix the stand back (on the top). In fact, think i'll go do that now! Jolly good fun

I guess alternatively you could install the 2.5" drive into a desktop and start off the install that way... But if you go through the complete setup on the desktop then swap the drive back, the variation in chipset would BSOD - unless you merged generic drivers into the registry before hand?!? (google mergeide.reg) Personally, if it's generic, swap out the faulty CD drive with a new one?!? It needs replacing anyway!
