[for sale] HP Storage Works G2 1/8 Tape Loader (including tapes)
Ben_Stanton replied to Ben_Stanton's topic in Classified Adverts
The RRP is around £1,400 +VAT so a reasonable offer or swap for single unit drive of higher capacity... Not had much use, still under warranty as far as I am aware. Plus you are getting a load of new tapes and a few spare barcodes. Ben- 3 replies

Hi guys, Predeccesor was mis-sold this device. It is a 1u rackmount unit with a native 800Gb capacity or 1.6TB when compressed. There are two drawers that take 4 tapes each - total capacity 8 tapes (or 7 with one 'mailbox'). It comes with HPs own 'DataProtector' software although I use BackupExec 11d. The odometer only reads 370 jobs (most of them testing and or minor restores). I have had it in use for a couple of months but it is just the wrong device for the job. Here are the main details; HP StorageWorks 1/8 G2 Tape Autoloader (AH163A) specifications - HP Small & Medium Business products Technical specifications Box content (1) 6’ VHDCI to HDTS68 SCSI cable; (1) RJ-45 Ethernet cable; (1) HDTS68 SCSI terminator; Set of six rubber feet (for tabletop use); HP StorageWorks Data Protector Express CD (for use in downloading the Single Server Edition for Windows/Linux/NetWare); Documentation kit including User & Service Guide (CD) and Getting Started Poster Software included The 1/8 G2 Tape Autoloader includes HP StorageWorks Data Protector Express, Single Server Edition for Windows/Linux/NetWare. This application allows you to securely back up, and if necessary recover, a single Windows/Linux/NetWare machine to/from your HP StorageWorks tape drive or tape autoloader. Burst transfer rate performance 16 MB/s (native), 32 MB/s (compressed) Mean time between failures 100,000 hours (based on 1M MSBF) SCSI interface Ultra160 SCSI LVD/SE Chassis type 1U, rack or desktop Compressed capacity 1.6 TB Native capacity 800 GB Mount type Rack-mount, Tabletop Drive type Ultrium 232 Operating temperature range 10 to 35° C Operating humidity range 20 to 80% RH Non-operating humidity 20 to 90% RH Weight 11.5 kg Dimensions (W x D x H) 48.2 x 80.9 x 4.4 cm Package weight 15.3 kg Package dimensions (W x D x H) 58 x 99 x 25 cm ******************************************** I am looking for a a single drive higher capacity (so willing to swap if device is right). The sale/swap will include some brand new tapes and bar codes. Going on here for a week before going on ebay. Thanks for looking!

Not sure on the Netgear but the Devolo comes with encryption although i've not tested it really. Ben

I've used both the Netgear and Devolo kit (they also do a homeAudio kit too). Both work fine, no trouble at all. Up and running literally as you plug them in (assuming circuits used go back to same DB). Grade II buildings here, majority of network cabling i've laid in the loft spaces. Also, rather sneakily followed an existing hole in the wall, to the outside, up some conduit I cable tied behind a drainpipe and then in under the eves and in. I also fitted some AirCon at my last job and chucked all the pipes into some drainpipe - looked perfect. As previously stated, they are not 100% and need a technical adjustment every now and then (on/off). But would recommend them where necessary. Ben

At that price it must be true MLPPP bonding. What model router is it? Then that's all my questions -

Ben_Stanton replied to Jamman960's topic in Wireless Networks
What are you paying for the bonded pair if you don't mind me asking? You actually have a specific bonding device on-site - not just a load balancer disguised as a bonding unit? -

Yeah, well get this; This village is so small there is only the school here, plus 100ish houses and 1 pub. I live in the village, ergo, I never actually have to leave. The pub is 100yds of work and home! Ha! -

Yeah - well we don't even have gas - so neeeer! -
I went for a 'drop-in' box here, no regrets as of yet. Specifically a content filter, designed for that purpose and that purpose alone. No bells and whistles - it just works. Easy to use, I have confidence in support and replacement. Daily updates, regular firmware enhancements too. You can pull all the necessary reports out. Example, it sends one direct to head of boarding so she can see what has been going on over night when the little darlings are supposed to be asleep. Another, I look at 'most frequented' sites or by bandwidth and generally they are proxies so just block them in a click or two... Barracuda 310. Ben

I could only dream of 4Mb. Independent boarding here, at least two light years away from the 'local' exchange. Vigor 3300 load balancing x2 512Mb lines from different ISPs. Also filtering/caching onsite with a Barracuda to ease any latency with using an off-site service service. Obviously not happy with it, but best we can do other than bonded/leased (and we'd still have issues due to distance). Still have room for another 2 lines if needed though. So all in all, paying £90 a month for the two lines. There was the initial outlay for the load balancer/modems and filter which is optional obviously. Ben -
Wireless Network (outdoors) - Big Investment - Which Company?
Ben_Stanton replied to a topic in Wireless Networks
Oh right, didn't realise you were going to lay a cable to the field. Not an option here, hence the P2P. -
Do any of your schools outsource their websites?
Ben_Stanton replied to scgf's topic in General Chat
We pay some company x amount (reasonable) for the hosting and they also provide the front end. It's asp so database driven, it's actually our Receptionist that updates it on an almost daily basis. Easy to use, anybody could do it. -

Will you have one particular place that will be your 'registration' point? We are thinking similar here. I was going to use a point-to-point that goes from main building to 'pavillion' and then have a AP inside. It would be a case of simply switching it on as and when needed. You can set a schedule in the AP just in case it gets left on, or even connect it to a timer switch so it defo goes off at the end of the day. Although, we're lucky as we're set in 200 acres with not a lot around really. -
Just (literally this week) implementing sharepoint as our VLE. I need to get to grips with it first, then pass on some knowledge to our 'Champions' who will then hopefully filter it down as and when necessary. Although, having issues with the stupid SLK at the moment! But - it's the way forward...
-
Thanks Joe, that is the kind of thing i'm looking for. Although, this particular #package' would include consumables. So, we pay a yearly/quartely figure which includes everything basically. 4 hour response to breakdown, all consumables, upgrades etc etc. What if you have a room of 20 kids that all need to print by end of lesson? They all have to indivdually go type in their details?
-
The post has been removed obviously, anybody still got the job desription laying around?
-
We currently use Danwood for our photocopying needs etc and they seem very good. Just had a guy in as I am thinking about ditching these stupid consumable hungry Oki's in favour of a decent HP fleet. The rough figures seem reasonable and i'll get a confirmed price once the audit has completed. I just wanted your comments on them as a company providing printer support and if you think you made the right step? Does it actually work out more cost and waste effective? Anybody using the 'Authentication' at the printer - how does that work in a class environment? Thanks in advance guys... Ben

How the ferk do you set up MS Exchange server!
Ben_Stanton replied to NetDiag's topic in How do you do....it?
What version of exchange? To create a disclaimers in 2007, you have to create a transport rule. -
And you are connected to exchange, not IMAP or POP? You've obviously tried the 'View>Current View>Messages' and 'View>Current View>Customise View>Reset View> Do you have an archive folder?
-
Is this your own mailbox? Or are you using a shared box? You are having a new sixth form built? Can you specify hair colour, height and built-in synaptic shock control for when they try sticking things into RJ45 sockets or posting pennies to the floppy fairy?
-
The majority of top level software imaging packages can accomodate this; You normally have to purchase an add-on or get an upgrade, I know with my Ghost setup I had to get a specific 'agent'. I think it was the 'hire a techy to do the running around for you' agent

What laws (all of them) are broken when doing this; Mr Ben, can you cut the first 19 seconds off track one for us to use for our dance exam???

Thanks guys - perfect!
