After reading this thread I don't think I'll ever again complain about the cost of SIMS!

Sure thing.. I've attached the migration mini guide that capita provide, it's pretty straight forward Personally, I'm doing it this way: 1) Install new SQL2008 instance on existing server (you can either use Capita installer tool or install your own) 2) Upgrade existing SIMS to November 09 release (await completion of Autumn census first!) + Upgrade FMS to latest version 3) Backup, backup, backup 4) Move SIMS & FMS databases from SQL2005 to SQL2008 instance when ready using capita tool 5) reconfigure sims files, Docserv, SLG2 etc 6) another backup 7) Shutdown SQL 2005 instance (if nothing else is on there) and leave for a few months before removing, just incase. 8) deploy SOLUS3 After that I'll be migrating the lot to a nice fresh VM FMSSQL2008M_16100.pdf SIMSSQL2008M_16101.pdf

Cheers Matt, I've installed the autumn release of SLG2 so am now in a position to upgrade to the SIMS autumn release too, i don't want to do this until we're certain of how to get SLG to look at the new SIMS database following migration If you know what I mean

Anyone know what changes need to be made to SLG to "Point" to the new sims database (2008)? Cheers

SOCIAL ENGINEERING TEACH PITFALLS OR NOT?
Oops_my_bad replied to butterscotch's topic in General Chat
Social engineering awareness? Should they be taught common sense as well? -
Why not just do what teaching staff do and abuse the "all staff" facility by sending an email to everyone where really, 1 or 2 would have been appropriate!?
-
Thanks vikpaw - could I ask which report you use for this?
-
What about SIMS profiles? Should already be included with your SIMS licence I'd have thought?
-
Hi All, Is there a way to automate printing fire registers in SIMS? Normally I could schedule a report and print it but cannot find the same report as available in lesson monitor Thanks
-
What is B2B anyway? Don't think we use it in our LEA but just wanted to make sure...

Anyone got the TVM maintenance console software? My version doesnt work on our new TVM and is no longer available at downloads.panasonic.com Thanks
-
I can also strongly recommend the 2055dn. £192 inc VAT at Insight.

There are tonnes of threads on this subject - try using the search button.

Hi, Last year (and possibly the year before) one of our assistant head's managed to print the whole school timetable off in the format of a giant notice board sized timetable. However he has now gone and I have been asked if this is something that could be done again? Anyone got any experience of this, or where I might be able to start looking!? Had a gloss through the T-6 documentation, but it's a bit heavy! Thanks

We use it here and gladly it is one of those things you just setup and forget about from our point of view. We are also looking at moving to Tucasi from Parentpay for Dinner moneh.

Administrator account no longer has admin privileges

Just tell him as it's a personal laptop you have tried your best endeavours and you are not obliged to repair it. Good day -
I had the same issue with a couple of these Konicas we had (thankfully we are all HP now), this was XP as well. Think it's just cr*ppy drivers TBH but had to do a similar workaround
-
Scrap that - looks like it's the Altiris client agent on our HP thin clients causing this! Does some funny things this Multicast...
-
Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I am currently getting a lot of spoofed access point MAC warnings by our wireless controller (3com WX4400 with AP2750 AP's). Like you we also have Mac's on our network (albeit on the same subnet) When I run a sniffer I am getting a load of multicast broadcasting from a 10.10.10.x address. The MAC address seems to match that of our wireless controller. These broadcasts are affecting the usability of our wireless network! Googling this I ran "igmp-proxy-reporting disable" on the console of the WX as this seemed to be causing the issue however it hasnt improved anything.

Is this the standard issue server room for BSF builds that don't factor in a server room!?
-
I can fully sympathise - at our place email is only good for management and these so called "future leaders" that sit in their office all day, firing of 0000's of emails and getting others to do their bidding
-
Is it sensible that people are still recommending 2003 for new vanilla builds?

Apparently a big update to the client engine went out a few days ago (~60meg) - anyone else having "issues" with this being deployed to their clients via autoupdate? I am told there will be a similar sized engine update for the firewall component too. Happy days

Sims Learning Gateway with Windows 2008 R2 domain
Oops_my_bad replied to Kitkatninja's topic in MIS Systems
Are you saying ADP breaks if you upgrade your domain to 2008 R2 functional level?
