  1. You can restrict changes in 365 admin, there are also a few PowerShell scripts that do the job.
  2. I use ConnectWise and have the agent installed and pushed out through GPO.
  3. We use a VPP account linked to Apple Configurator. We did previously use Profile Manager on an Apple Server, however, it caused more hassle than what it was worth so we took it off. Didn't want to go down the monthly subscription route to a third party MDM, it's worked OK for the past two years, just this last time has stopped all the apps from working.
  4. Hey, Just a frustrating issue that I’m having which I’d like to collaborate on… We have over 120 iPads in school, the last batch were purchased about 3 years ago, and the others about 5-6 years ago. The iPads are now at the stage in the iOS life where they no longer update with Apple to the latest iOS version… however, because Apple forces all app vendors to keep their apps up to date with the latest iOS, when I updated all our iPad at Christmas, half the apps that we did have are no longer compatible with the version of iOS on the device. Will there come a time in the next 18 months where the only apps on the iPad are the default ones such as Safari…? The BIG thing at the moment is that I manage all the iPads with Apple Configurator 2, the iPads have the Supervised Blue Print, and I push the apps out (this works great), but the apps now won’t open as they require an Apple ID to be present on the iPad to load? And we don’t obviously want to put the credentials in manually. Has anyone else experienced this? Have you got around it? Or do we just surrender the Apple ID credentials? Thanks
  5. Hi everyone, Just wondering if anyone is using any cloud-based firewall providers for web filtering at DNS level, we are looking at rolling out Guest Wifi but want it completely separate from our on-premise filtering. This really comes down to the cost as well for the cloud-based providers, I've had a look online but they all seem to be American based. Just wondering if anybody could recommend any solution? Thanks!
  6. x3 19" monitors on my windows desktop and a 21" iMac, unfortunately its all I can fit on my desk!
  7. Unblock social media during lunch time in school or on the wifi (if students can access it) and see if someone slips up and logs into the account.
  8. We've been looking at this recently, we're looking to use the O365 on-premis with a hybrid setup to O365, lines are routed in via ISDN to the PBX, it will then be trunked into our Lync server for the VoIP aspect. I've had several members of staff playing with Lync IM since christmas which has proven useful, they really like it and I really like that it reduces a phone call or a walk to the other side of site, though Lync is end of life and is on the roadmap to be replaced with Skype for Business later this year so I'm now more interested in what functionalities SforB will bring to the table.
  9. We use Windows 7 embedded on small form factor PCs and in some areas we use very old desktop PCs which run absolutely fine. Got a GPO set up to enable automatic user login, hide task bar, start menu, pop up notifications etc so the screens don't get disturbed.
  10. Wordpress is pretty good, you can do multiple sites in one install so you can have school.sch.uk/year1 /year 2 /year 7 and so on as separate customisable sites.
  11. We had one fitted over summer, it was installed as part of the building work to redevelop a floor of the building. We spent £25k on equipment from 3 new 4K resolution cameras, a full control room of video editing hardware/applications and a very nice 86" 4k res HD touchscreen.
  12. We've got some 65" screens but we don't use the internal sound on them, as for the touch capabilities they're pretty impressive. The LG 84" 4K touch screens are awesome too.
  13. ADSelfService Plus from ManageEngine is great for this
  14. I've set up our new signature for staff within the exchange transport rules on Office365 - Transport Rules > Disclaimers. The signature is standardised across the board and pulls the users details from active directory. Full Name | Job Title College Address Telephone (Ext:) Email Address I sent a test email to a member of staff; my signature displays at the bottom of the email and works fine. The member of staff replies but her signature (personalised disclaimer) shows at the bottom of the page under mine (because in the real world it's a disclaimer) Is there a way to set disclaimers to show at the bottom of each individual email message (where a normal signature would usually appear?)
  15. Just wondering if anybody has used SharePoint 2013 (Sites) with the Office365 package yet and how much of SharePoint you have developed? We have two sites, one for 'Student Intranet' and 'Staff Intranet' now I can create the security group within Office365 and use that to apply permissions but I have to add individual users to the security group. Is there a way to create a staff and student security group within active directory on-site and sync this with office365 like we do for user accounts?
  16. I've had exactly the same issue this afternoon! Kept being distracted too so ended up reinstalling MySQL service. Will see if it happens again.
  17. We have Samsung Signage screens with MagicInfo, It took me a while to get used to it - it's not that bad, bit clunky but works well with our video walls. Xibo is also good as an opensource solution.
  18. We have a main college twitter @collegename and each subject area has there own @collegesubject which works pretty well. We also have a main facebook page however subject areas don't really utilise that as they have to create a 2nd facebook profile or use their personal one to access the page.
  19. ServiceDesk Plus is great, and it's now free! Help Desk Software | IT Helpdesk - ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus Can't fault it at all
  20. We have Moodle hosted externally; they manage everything server side and if we get stuck we can raise a fault request for them to fix parts of the site. However they're on an old stable version 2.1? And refuse to upgrade to the latest 2.6/2.7 stable version which is bugging me now to say the least. Only had downtime once this year so far (one monday evening) however if I could I'd bring it back on site (personal preference)
  21. Since the emails aren't from one specific sender; the rule is on Outlook 13 running constant moving the emails to the deleted items folder. The rules so far this morning have moved 10 thousand emails to the deleted folder. 648363 left! - - - Updated - - - There's simply too many emails in the account prior to this for us to do this, it was my first thought.
  22. A colleague went on holiday to China, whilst they were there they signed into a public computer to check their college emails. (facepalm) When they got home their college email account had been spammed. (you can see where I'm going with this) The account had 900,000 emails in the inbox of failed delivery receipts from the spam trying to send emails from the account and failing. Since then the spam has stopped coming into the mailbox however I need to now remove the emails that are already on the account! I've added the mailbox to Outlook 2013 and created several rules to filter the emails from the inbox and move them into the deleted items folder - the rule has constantly been running day and night for the past 2 weeks. I'm now on 65,9572 emails, it's deleted 27k in the last 24 hours. Since we're on Office365 for Education is there any other way we can have removed or remove the emails faster? Abandoning the mailbox is a no go as well.
  23. Hi, We've got Windows 8.1 and Office2013, the GPO locks down the graphics properties so staff/students can't change the resolution etc however. Now in PowerPoint 2013 when you 'View Presentation' it automatically uses presenter view which changes the desktop screens from mirrored to extended view - after doing this they can't put it back to how it was. Is there a way to disable this feature? Wondered if anybody else had come across this...
  24. We have MagicInfo Pro with 2 normal screens and a 2x2 videowall in the coffee shop area in college - along with a dedicated machine to set up the schedules. However (if you've used magicinfo pro before) you have the blue screen icons with the clock to say they're online under network in the screens menu, but ours keep changing to grey every 20-30 seconds for about 10 seconds or so then they come back, only issue is when trying to publish schedules they keep showing 'Not Connected' which results in trying to press publish several times just to get the schedule pushed out to the screens. Any ideas? I can't seem to find any documentation at all for this 'not connected' issue.. Cheers
  25. We started to deploy https://meraki.cisco.com/products/wireless the Meraki Wireless, with it being cloud managed it's really good to administer.
