Just read this The Adventures of Unemployed Man: Amazon.co.uk: Erich Origen, Gan Golan: Books Its a very funny satire on the current economic problems - well worth a look. -
Academy Personnel/Payroll and Finance software

We've got Corero's Resource accounts package, which I'm quite pleased with. HR is external - can't remember the company until I see the next payslip... -
I've installed 3 suites over the years (not just in schools) and none of them were used after the first flurry of excitement. The only use that I ever saw of the original one we put in was myself getting interviewed for a job in NZ

Anyone got any rack-mounted switches that they don't want?

Got 6 x Extreme Summit 24 ports if anyone wants them -
It just sounds like a solution looking for a problem - coughing up £15k just to see if people can find a valid use for them - that's nearly a techie's salary in these straightened times...

Going a bit cross eyed from reading manuals - so hopefully someone can short cut through my stupidity... What I want to do - set up a 2008/W7 test bed on an old server under ESXi What I'm worried about - presumably I need this test bed to be completely seperate from the existing network to avoid any problems with DHCP or DNS etc etc....but...I would like to get internet access through our broadband. Any ideas on setting this up would be handy - I imagine VLANs might be needed - but at present I can't change what we have set up.

Or Virgin if you're in a cabled area

I always wonder how you manage the online backups. I assume you do a full backup and then incrementals ever after - as I can't see how you would upload a couple of Tb on a regular basis unless you've got SERIOUS connectivity - so what happens when you want a particular file from 18 months ago?

I created a VM and installed Logmein on there for remote support companies - the VM only gets switched on when the company has requested it for a specific purpose.

Our contracts state that all code produced while in their employ belongs directly to the school (and indeed that will be implied if not explicit in all of your contracts too). So giving away their intellectual property is not encouraged! -

Is it possible to record user usage on a Network
SpuffMonkey replied to Adam728's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Umm - OK - briefly.. The icons that are presented to staff & students call a vb script like so C:\WINDOWS\system32\wscript.exe \\server\logs$\appslog.vbs /program:"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS3\Dreamweaver.exe" /title:"Adobe Dreamweaver CS3" And the appslog.vbs builds some text/date/time variables from this and stuffs the call into a database and opens the program. When the program is closed, the script logs the exit time. We also record logins in a similar way and have a nice web based front end to query the database. I'd share the code - but the school is a bit "funny" about that sort of thing - I'd strongly recommend a read of Steve Rochfield's Scripting 101 Course which he presented at one of the Edugeek conferences (thanks Steve) - most of the ideas were "borrowed" from there - it was around on here for a while? Cheers & happy coding! -

The Serif one was pretty comprehensive & fairly cheap - a lot easier to deploy than the Adobe stuff too. -
These are fabulous - I'd love to own one of these!
