This is the best move nowadays but you need to make sure you're licensed appropriately - I could be wrong but our licensing partners told us you must license Office365 CTR through EES/whatever specifically - the Office365 CTR licenses you get for free in Office365 are for personal devices only.

What version of Office is that? If it isn't 2013+ you're going to have problems.

We just got licensed for InTune (mainly for iPads now we've outgrown Meraki's free plan) and so far I'm quite impressed with the iOS side of it. Am now looking at deploying out to all our computers and changing our Windows 10 management over to what Microsoft call "modern management". We're using SCCM at the moment but it's huge overkill for a primary - the only hurdle right now is application deployment. I don't want to install apps during imaging with MDT unless they're fully managed ala Applications in SCCM. There's plenty of InTune documentation for shared devices if you look on the Microsoft website, it's geared at schools in particular. I think given time and planning it could complement my long term goal to minimise onsite servers

We're looking at moving shared drives into our Office365 SharePoint instance - particularly now we're redirecting user folders into OneDrive (which has worked well so far). That leaves DirectAccess for our VPN which will become management only shortly.

It's a live image rather than recordings - make sure your policy allows this and make sure you have approval from higher ups. Register properly with the ICO and you'll be fine. Choose your camera feeds wisely, we stick to outdoor only on our live monitor.

We've gone through a similar issue here lately. Our CCTV policy states if there are other staff or students in the imagery then under ICO guidance we will not show parents the footage and it will be down to our head and assistant head to document the footage. This was recently taking up with our Governors who ruled our policy was acceptable, and our LA's legal service checked with the ICO who agreed with us that unless everyone in the footage gave permission then it wasn't allowed. The parents requesting the footage were unhappy, everyone else was very happy.

Our staff are on a one to one device basis - I think having desktops at work is a very old fashioned way of working. We tried Surface tablets with Type Cover keyboards but found that staff disliked using them because of the small screen size and lack of lap usability! Our staff like to use their laptops in the staffroom etc on their laps and Surfaces have a tendency to fall over on anything squishy! One of the other complaints was lack of ports (1 usb, 1 mini-DP). We offer our staff two models, the latest version of the Lenovo T or X series depending on what screen size they would like (12.5" or 14") - it's important to stick to one manufacturer I find, and pick one that makes enterprise management easy. I like Lenovo because the hardware is built like a tank, they offer SCCM driver packs and cheat sheets, and their on-site repair service is top notch. We buy them with 5 year warranties and refresh them when that expires. If they're still usable we'll drop them into our spare pile for people who forget laptops etc. Nowadays you ought to look at embracing the entire Microsoft suite if it's the way you're going, particularly on Surface. Windows 10, Office365, forget folder redirection and use OneDrive sync, BitLocker, and then InTune and SCCM for management. Your life will be easy, staff will get a good experience, and everything will be fast and secure. DirectAccess (or Always on VPN now if you want instead) is wonderful for remote access to anything since it's all seamless... I'm not sure I want the hassle of training staff to connect to VPNs Make sure you have a decent wireless infrastructure too, because that could be the thing that ruins the experience for your staff. We've forced BitLocker on USB sticks using MBAM for a few years now - ahead of GDPR (totally using it as an excuse) I've denied all write access to any removable storage on end user devices now. Staff have OneDrive and their own school laptops - there's no reason for them to be using USB sticks anymore. This has killed the issue of staff doing work on non-school computers too. Of course you can still read from them OK for things like cameras.

Depending on your MDM, you could get around this with a sandboxed mail app - I know GOOD Mobile Messaging does this but not sure of others. All mail was done via GOOD and any attachments opened via GOOD plugins.

Just tried Safari and Chrome on a rMBP with the latest High Sierra release - still getting the looping login issue. @Brimstone did you actually try purchasing an app? We can login, search for an app, put a qty in, click the Purchase button, login a second time, but then it just loops back to the login page over and over again. I can purchase apps in School Manager fine but then how do you deploy those with Meraki? I'm generally trying through the old VPP method at https://volume.itunes.apple.com/gb/store, which has worked for the last 4-5 years fine.

Yes! It's been a week and I haven't been able to get any apps deployed to our school iPads now, I've got teachers asking my when it's going to be fixed and all I can do is shrug. This is a joke - it's seriously making me reconsider our iPad refresh this year to be honest. I've tried my school laptop, home desktop, FF, IE, Chrome, Edge... nothing will work so it's obviously an issue on their end.

I got a USB OTG cable for £4 from Maplin the other day... before-closing-down price was £12!! I was still feeling a little ripped off but I didn't want to wait for a cheap Chinese eBay job... that's the only thing they were really good for. Or that one time I needed an ADSL filter right now 3 years ago.

Before I go through the helpdesk has anyone got any documentation or anything regarding GDPR compliance from SB? Or maybe @SchoolsBroadband can mention to us? I'm just aware that technically NetSweeper/Lightspeed could be a minefield for data.
