Head > Deputy Head > NM > Technician But to be honest, the only role the Deputy Head plays is as my line manager and carrys out my performance management. All IT issues / developments / decisions are me (NM).

Yes, I believe you will need to purchase the Microsoft Connector licence for any public facing sharepoint website with logins via an AD account. Not sure it should be as high as £10k mind.

In my opinion it's a glorified version of Movie Maker. We use version 14 and it does freeze / crash quite often. As nephilim said - version 18 is the latest version available. We have bought from Counterpoint in the past and they do the slightly older versions at good prices or they have done for us in the past.

Thats probably what I expected and wanted to hear before I started bothering. Did you get 16+ working in the end or did you just bin it? I guess when the Head of Music told me about this bargain £10 per copy software I now know why!

Has anybody come across this software and manage to roll it out to a Windows 7 network. Everytime we have tried it has failed, I think its up to around version 18 now has anybody found the newer release to be any better? Installing the software manually takes around 45 mins per PC due to the number of small sample files and to install onto the PC's in our music suite is going to take a while! Thanks Andrew

We allow youtube to our staff and sixth form students via our Smoothwall box too.

We currently use Schoolcentre from Granada Learning School improvement | school lesson planning tools with Schoolcentre - it's about 1 - 1.5k per annum depending on the size of the school. We are currently in the process of looking for alternative systems to carry out CPD, School Development Plans and the SEF. Schoolcentre does all of the above and I am not saying its a bad system we are just investigating our options.

Our staff relgiously check their e-mails throughtout the day or even permanently leave the mail client running in the background - to ensure all staff check their e-mails often all communication needs to be electronic and very little is passed in paper form, this is the only way you can help drive its use - also running training sessions 'Selling' the use of e-mail as a communication tool for ease and quickness for staff is also important initially.

NRB, Printer Credits and Internet Control are all either currently in Fieldtrial or looking for volunteers for fieldtrial now - so hopefully shouldn't be much longer for you to wait.

Ah sorry my mistake - I thought you meant pulling the photo in on the sharepoint user profile. Our photos all pull in fine on the student webpart for staff, student and parents.

Yeah, we used a java widget for our time / clock got us up and running no problem.
-
Ours doesn't do that either - not sure if its supposed to though. Have you read / heard somewhere that it should?

Other than a niggling issue with Printers following users around the school (not literally!) we are happy with our CC4.3 Server 2008 R2 install with Windows 7 clients. Hopefully fix to sort the printer problem is due in the next few weeks.

Recommend place to get USB sticks with school logo
Sylv3r replied to Ben_Stanton's topic in How do you do....it?
We've used them before but found such a high failure rate with them we decided to ditch that idea and just buy branded pens. Make sure you are aware of the quality of the drive prior to purchasing them as we had a lot of staff / students dispointed when they lost their work. -
Our school is closed for students and open to those staff who choose to come in.

We've been playing with XIBO for a good few months now and recently rolled out out to our 8 screens around the school - haven't come up with any issues or limitations up to now and I imagine if we did for what is effectively a free product we would just put up with it if there was any major flaws. We had a bit of a homebrew html page initially and for how effective it was, we decided to go down the XIBO route as it seemed more sleeker.

We moved from WSS 3.0 to Sharepoint 2010 on a fresh install. As Vikpaw has said, we were charged the same as an initial install other than the license fees (not via CAPITA however)

[sims] Sims Learning Gateway pass-through authentication

You could manually add their AD account to the ADP - All Students, ADP - All Staff groups. This should let them straight on without consolidation, it shouldn't cause any problems when you eventually get round to consolidating either. -
In good in theory, but remember this could be an easy way for the students to get all sort of *nasty* material onto the network. I am all for students using their own devices within school, in a managed environment. I would be against taking material of the students phones on their behalf... some of the images which end up on generally lads mobile phones is not the sort of thing you want appearing on your screen in your room. You need some sort of get out clause disclaimer if you were to be downloading content onto your network... also, if you plug a phone into your network and it goes bang or the phone is lost or stolen - will the parents be knocking on the door wanting the school to purchase a new phone? Make sure your mobile phone policy is water tight as it can be.

Yep, we tend to choose another network printer and it works fine. Slightly bizarre bug / errorr.

I think you could get software and I now believe hardware through the RM Basement (not sure if you have to purchase RM hardware). I also have a feeling our LA used to run a similar scheme to the bike scheme where you could purchase a PC on your payslip prior to the tax reduction.. although I could be wrong and have got the wrong end of the stick but this was a while ago.
-
The most difficult part is getting the users under the quota limit you wish to set. Not many like to spring clean even stuff they no longer need!

Oce copiers here (now canon I believe) and our staff find all ways possible to break them or jam them and leave them without telling anybody.
