  1. You haven't heard the rumours that I have from Webman! Your welcome to stop in his tent, your unlikely to get any sleep! Ging-gang-goolie......
  2. I have a feeling theres a few webparts required for this functionality to work, some are hidden webparts that just pull the data in. Sorry, I can't be of any further help as I haven't managed to get it working here either.
  3. I asked Sean about the possibility of us having it for last half term, but he said it's still not 100% ready to go but we could have it if we wanted but but I decided not to upgrade and held off. We will probably be looking at next half term for the rollout as it will be nearer to the final release then I would imagine.
  4. I covered my back by saying according to CAPITA. ) I haven't fully tested it myself yet. Just insalled it on a test machine yesterday, so will have a play next week - with some big reports and SIMS profiles.
  5. After posting above, I think I might give this a try actually for our AUP forms we send to all parents of our new Year 7's to sign, it will reduce heavily the amount of paper we send. It will be a good test to see if it will work.
  6. Just thinking off the top of my head, but how about Google Docs. Send a form with the letter attached to parents in the introduction section, then the parent fills in their Name, Student name etc on the bottom. This will then update a google spreadsheet with all the information added. The only problem I imagine, is that it will be a manual process to go through the spreadsheet and cross reference with a list of parents, but I don't think it will take that long, if listed alphabetically.
  7. We moved from Office 97 to Office 2007 and will be moving to Office 2010 this summer. The switch to 2007 was pretty straightforward and we didn't get any complaints staff and students picked it up pretty quickly, I would imagine it will be the same for our users going to 2010. If you are a SIMS user, Office 2010 now works fine (according to CAPITA) so I don't envisage you having any issues.
  8. I wonder if this makes life easier for me travelling from the north east. I'll have to evaluate my options.
  9. We are not an Impero user currently, but when we trialled it we had no issues with the technical support team. Even though we were only trialling the software they were happy to help.
  10. Well done, burnt, cremated = all of the above! One of these days I'll try it a little less done, but it's the thought of sticking my knife into it and blood pouring out that puts me right off!
  11. Smoothwall - rubbish Nah all seriousness, we've been a happy Smoothwall company for around 3 years or so now. Good support, and yes theres initial outlay first for the hardware if your looking at the UTM. But annual costs soon come down - all based on the number of devices that are on your network, if it's quite a small network costs should be pretty reasonable. Our LA have been looking at a county wide solution, but it looks like they choose Bloxx and not the smoothwall option.
  12. Where are people getting the installs for Solus 3 and Discover? Our SIMS support is via the LA - do I need to contact them?
  13. We have VLAN'ed our 9 CCTV cameras on our main network. No noticable additonal bandwith etc required.
  14. It sounds like your creating a network loop - do you run things like spanning tree on your procurve switches? I am not an expert at this, but I don't think you'll be able to go up to 4gig with this scenarion but I could be wrong.
  15. We had access to some of the CBT Nugget videos a few years back and the biggest problem with them was the DRM protection. Once we installed them onto one laptop and when that person had finished with them we tried to remove so we could install on another laptop and that took some doing!
  16. We followed the unoffical guide of changing the build to XP3 and didn't go down the RM CC3 package route - haven't had a single problem and will cut our build times down due to not having to install SP2 updates or the large SP3 package.
  17. Do you have to pay your RBC for connectivity this year? Yes, as we have always done as the Harnessing Technology was always passed onto the school What RBC are you with? Durham IT Serices AKA Durham .net How much are they asking? £15,500 What speed will you get for that? 10mbit on a good day - 6mbit generally Are you considering leaving or staying with your RBC in the future because of its pricing? Looking at our options, we don't mind paying more if we receive more bandwith, good service etc Have you already left your RBC and for what reasons? n/a
  18. Have a good one Ric!
  19. Not sure if this is the same stuff or whether you want to buy online, but I have used this site before we no problems when I was looking at a good whisky for a mate. Zoladkowa Gorzka Vodka - buy Polish vodka at Drinkon.com
  20. I've got an e-mail to confirm I got 2 tickets for the Saturday.
  21. PCounter is another one to look at.
  22. We use the Smoothzap Smoothwall module.
  23. I got the same issue yesterday and also a problem when trying to uninstall via Add / Remove programs - kept looking for the .msi in the temporay files location. I basically went through the registry and did a bit of pruning to get rid of it before I could get it reinstalled. I think it was a .Net framework issue and after manually reinstalling that it worked fine as someone else mentioned above.
  24. Hi John I like your thinking, but I don't think that would work for us - your school sounds much smaller than ours we have 1,400 on roll and I know all won't use the canteen on a lunchtime we still have 5 tills in operations which are in use for the majority of the 55 minute lunch break. I thought about a print off of exactly the same layout as the till screen with a box for student name at the top. The till ops write the student name, then tick everything purchased which is deducted manually from the student accounts a later date. Not sure how feasible it would be and - what preventative steps to have in place to ensure that students do not say someone else's name and for the deduction to take place on someone elses account. This may need it's own post - I wonder if any Cashless catering companies / schools have any tried and tested methods when these scenarios have occured.
