I didn't know hotmail was blocked??? The kids here use it. We're on cleo here in cumbria as well, and hotmail works fine! + I've got a NAT'ed address so I have more or less complete freedom (for my personal use)

I guess I must have it easy, because all of this is overkill at my school. The walls are so thick that the radius is neglible, and on top of that, if you don't know the proxy address, you can't get on the network anyway. Am I being naive, or are you all being over cautious?

can we not start a wiki on this that includes the county blocked sites, as well as the locally blocked sites?

We've got Dells all round. If they break, the next day we have a technician come and replace the faulty part. They were £309 each (inc monitor) with next day on site for 3years! And because they know me, I don't have to jump through hoops, they accept my diagnosis.

To get on the internet, you have to go by a proxy. I have a catagory in AD where the proxy is null, you just move the student into Internet Banned before they log on. The only problem is... the ICT teacher want to do that, and he really is such a techophobe, I dare not let him near AD.. I get into a sweat thinking of the damage he could do 8O

LanView3 is ok... you can lock the machine so the kiddie can't do anything, but it only took the kids 1/2 a day to figure out they could use Windows Explorer instead of Internet Explorer to get on the web. ah well, back to the drawing board!

can this software be circumvented by using windows explorer instead of internet explorer?

what I don't miss is the annual appraisals, where they collect all the mistakes you made over the year (but they didn't tell you about, because they were so petty), then collect them together, knowing you don't stand a cat in hells chance or remembering them, then use it as an excuse to give you an insulting pay rise. What most people don't realise is, managers in big business, get bonuses based on how small they can make their staffs payrises, the less the company has to pay to employees, the more the managers get rewarded!!!

I agree at the moment AMD, they have better heat (or lack of) and a full working 64bit processor, plus Intel are trying dirty tricks on them (think Virgin v British Airways!, not London v Paris)!!!

Heck, has your school not heard of WorkForce Reform, don't expect the teachers to do anything except teach. At my last school the teachers even wanted the admin staff to take on marking the work!!!

Intel or AMD? This should get a lot of posturing!!!
