Why not just have GP make the desktop the same where ever you are, map a network drive to the students areas, and then make them choose their own folder. This also means that group folders can be set for for say.. science. No roaming profiles, no large logons!

Mines pretty sad really (though not compared to Thunderbirds), it's school.network!! When I worked for ICL/Fujitsu, all the mainframes were "public" so we had A-PUB B-PUB etc, and I've set up a server for my home network, for the wife and called it EBAY, no prizes for guessing why!!!

If only you could crimp fibre, but the ends of the fibre have to be polished smoother that a babys backside! It's possible to use chemical process now. The fibre "cores" refers to the number of strands of fibre, thus the number of links you could have. Each fibre link needs 2 fibres, 1 tx & 1 rx. Therefore 16 core has 8 links, and 2 core has 1 link, as it were!

I've used GP so that the desktop is completely blank, with no icons, no backgroung, control panel locked out etc. All they get a the blue desktop, and there is nothing they can do about it.

Fibre is basically fibre, it's the boots at the end that change. Getting hold of the kit to terminate fibre / boots is harder than finding an ICT teacher that actually knows about IT!!!

actually, I was looking to make earn money! I have a disabled child, so earning extra money would be a bonus, and I already do some charity work!

School hols are about to begin, and since I don't work school hols, I've got 6 weeks to kill! I'm going to be bored rigid. Does anyone else have the 6 weeks off, and what part time work would you recommed to keep me sane?

All I can see is people going on about projector installs, not the actual projectors, unless this is covered in another forum, other than hardware?

The ICT teacher wants a nice new shiny projector, lots of lumens (bet he doesn't know what they are anyway!!), ceiling mounting kit etc, and he wants it to be "good value" as opposed to cheap, and good TCO as well.

How about this for a project.... Software to delete all the spy / ad ware on the network!

I'm using securus, which allows me to see any key word (i.e. e:/). All the kids know I can see whats on their pen drives, so they don't abuse that! None of the machines have floppies, and I've stopped them using the cds, which isn't too much trouble for the little darlings, as I've disabled the sound cards!

Can anyone recommend a website than can teach me Linux. I don't have a clue about it! Not even the stuff you'd take for granted, such as what "wine" is or does! The less technikal the better, as I'm used to Windows!!!

I'm worried that I'm going to have to get my hands dirty with Linux now I have an old server with redhat on it, but I could never get it to see the windows server, as a server! I know I'm going to get flogged for this, but I hate linux, and the though of wasting more time getting it to work, isn't appealing!
