  1. I'd recommend not leasing at all! Before I came here, the school used to lease Viglens. I went through the figures with SMT, and demonstrated that we could afford the machine outright, and that leasing tied up into paying a small fortune!
  2. and you wonder why they aren't offering support!
  3. I'd be up for that Russ!!
  4. Na, it doesn't get far enough to start the nic! And it's back on the original monitor
  5. That is what I thought too, which is why I wanted to logon without the gui. That was my 1 and only linux box, so I can't logon remotely, and I assume that the box isn't contactable anyway. I did change the monitor, when I moved it to a new location. Thats when it stopped working. I put the old monitor back on it, but it still wouldn't boot. If I can get in on command line, that would eliminate the problem, if it is X, I just don't know how on Fedora!
  6. I've got a Fedora server thats running my helpdesk and Moodle. It gets to a certain point in the boot up, then ...... nothing. The hard drive spins a bit, but the screen is saying that there is no signal being received, and the computer isn't up. When I press the button to shutdown, the screen comes alive, and tells me all the stuff thats it's shutting down. Has anyone got a clue whats happening? I don't want to rebuild this machine if I can help it Is there a way of booting that I don't know, that gives me command line instead of the gui?
  7. What we need is a moblog that can pinpoint the best freebies; thats what I'm going down for!!!

  10. I'll be there on Wednesday & Thursday. I'm particually interested in the South Africa seminar (I'm over there in May setting up Video Conferencing facilities and other stuff), but I can't see the seminar listed, do you have any more details GrumbleDook?
  11. if it's a software raid, use the nfts dos boot disc I mentioned, and copy the files, or, put the drive in another machine, and recover the data that way
  12. have you tried a boot disc that gives you dos for NTFS? from there you can access the drives in dos. It has to be NTFS as normal dos is fat32, and can't access NTFS drives. Another problem that you might me having is that you need the RAID drivers.
  13. I agree, even if you don't yet use MSI, it's good to know that it's there if you need it.
  14. I had a similar problem. I had to delete the computer from the AD, as it seemed to remember the NIC belonged to a computer with a different name. (Thats how I interpreted it!!)
  15. we've had a "reasonable" amount in Cumbria

  21. Plenty! Dabs, Amazon, all the usual suspects. I just mentioned Misco because thats where I got mine from. Called them Tuesday, it arrived on Wednesday. I must admit I was pleasently suprised! I'd ordered lots of stuff (built a new rig), and they said that the 19"was out of stock and I had to wait till Jan, which I was happy to do,as it's such a bargin, but it turned up all the same. Wonder if I'll get one in Jan as well by mistake!!??!!
