  1. The core 2 Duo really is an evolution, but, you need a motherboard that supports something like the Intel 965 chipset, and they aren't cheap! FSX isn't that startling an upgrade compared to FS9, unless you're REALLY into flight sims. Stuff like premier would hurtle along with the new processor. For example, to convert a 1 3/4 hour film from .avi to dvd used to take 2hrs on my 3.4 Pentium with a gig of ram, now, on my Core2Duo (e6600), and 2 gig of ram, it's a little over 1/2 an hour. Small films (say 350mb) used to take 30 odd minutes to convert, now it's less than 5 minutes.
  2. and no doubt all this is powered by a cold fusion generator
  3. What I read was..... "WoW forces 400,00 people to GET A LIFE"
  4. for my money, you've got to go for a Core2Duo, I know their expensive, but they are well worth the money
  5. why not build one?
  6. I personally go to the Science department meeting every Friday.... just so happens that it is in a local hostelry!!! I would go to the staffroom at break, but I'd just get hassled about spyware and the like, otherwise, there is no issue with teacher v non-teachers. They even sent me on a teacher-only trip to South Africa! However.... no one bothered to organise a whip round last month when my wife gave birth. I'm a bit cheesed off about that, but the PE department did get us a card, which was nice!
  7. Thats a sneaky practise introduced into this country from America, it sucks Dude! I knew someone on a one year contract, they'd recently signed up for another year, when they were asked if they'd like a full contract..... The next day, his 1st day as a proper employee, they made him redundant. It was cheaper than cancelling his contract. Obviously I can't name the company, but think of IT in General Motors....
  8. Perhaps they should have ask Geoff how to do it first
  9. it is annoying that the only transparency that IE supports is GIF, which only has 256 colours!
  10. it needs directx 10, which only comes in the production version of vista, and wants graphic cards with shedloads of memory!
  11. I don't think you've updated your graphics card in a while have you Simon!
  12. I've upgraded to a core 2 duo 2.4, a X1900 XT and 2 gb of ram. It's a lot better now, but I'd still not as good as I'd like!
  13. Last time I did a 2003 install, it wouldn't let you create a domain without qualifying it
  14. My product of the year has got to be my Core2Duo e6600 2.4 processor, it's incredible! My Pentium 4 3.4 used to take 1hr 58mins to recode an avi to DVD, the Core2Duo takes 28 mins!
  15. you need to start the messnger service on each machine, but then you can use Net Send from the dos prompt
  16. I know we're in Cumbria, but still CLEO Simon, but I can FTP using IE7 and DOS
  17. Ah, it all begins again! Whenever I get a new version of Flight Simulator, I always expect it to push my current rig. This time the "minimum" spec is 1ghz processor, 256mb ram and graphics card with 32mb My rig; 3.4ghz processor, 1gig ram, 128mb 9800 pro I was expecting the game to run ok... Wrong! Now I appreciate that this computer isn't going to set the world on fire, and that the graphics is the achilles heel, but even so, I think it's an ok spec FSX runs like a DOG, even with all graphics turned to medium low, only with fine weather, and with 15% air traffic (0% on cars and boats etc.), and it still can't run smoothly (say at 30fps)! With a new baby, I can't afford an Intel 975 mobo, 2.4 Conroe, 1 gig DDR2 ram and a new PCI-e graphics card.... I guess it's back to FS Century of Flight, because it shouldn't cost £500 in updates to play a flight simulator! And to add insult to injury, the install process hasn't run properly on the 2 computers I've installed FSX on!
  18. How come the world series only has "teams" from america... or is america the world??!!?? P.S. this is a joke, I know the answer Russ!
  19. how much folding green stuff do you get for these jobs?
  20. Don't tell the wife about the other woman Webman, or the headline will be "edugeeker in 'Bobbit' incident!"
  21. What, you haven't finished module 6 yet Simon?
  22. On Satuday the 14th, at 7:30am, the wife finally gave birth (a week late!). Mother & child are doing ok, but the wife is having to stay in for a few days due to complications, which leaves me looking after the other two children, and the house. I'm going to be in so much trouble when she gets home! Must go, this cigar isn't going to smoke itself, and the baby isn't going to wet it's head on it's own! P.S. It's a boy btw SimpleSi
  23. I've had that on a few computers that had viruses.
  24. No mention of the salary!
  25. does anyone know if they've re-enabled FTP from ie7, I've avoided updating, because if I can't FTP my webpages then it's useless!
