Hi Guys, On one of our machines in one of our IT classrooms, when anyone tries to play a video on and video software program installed (i.e. quick time, media player, VLC) - it shows really faintly as if someone has been messing with the brightness and contrast settings. It wont be the settings on the program itself as all the programs do it, also everything else that isn't part of the video on the screen is perfectly fine. Sorry I didn't do too well at explaining that! Can anybody help at all??? Much appreciated!!

At my old work, we had Galaxy, Mars (which were originally from the chocolate), then we called the next one Jupiter. I think its better with a more professional approach like we have at my place of work now with basic names (i.e. 1 word brief description of the server "Fileserve" for example).

I want to be a network manager one day, but sometimes I feel what is the point? As for the responsibilities you have as a Network Manager aren't "sometimes" worth the difference in pay. My m8 is a standard IT Technician in a straight forward school which has 1000 pupils on roll, and he is on £18,500.

Hi Guys, Just wanted to see if anybody has experienced a scenario like this before? BSF has been given the go ahead for my school next September and my contract ends next September. I am an apprentice and I will have finished my apprenticeship in this time. I know I am in a two year contract with my job and should have expected for the worst when I took it on, but in 99% of cases, apprentices are kept on. Am I wrong by anything I feel? Or does anybody know what the chances are of me being employed by the contracted which is sub contracted by BSF. Next September I should be CCNA Qualified - how easy will this get me employment? Cheers

Hi Guys, I have a little problem that hopefully you will be able to help me with; On Moodle we have some video files that have been embedded. Sometimes when people play them; it shows the video screen pitch black and no movement can be seen, but sound can be heard. It's not the version of internet browser as it has been flagged up on many different types. Any clues? Thank You in advance!

Hi Guys, I am trying to convert Powerpoint Slides into individual html windows. The reason why I want to do this is so that the web links still work when I attach them to links on moodle. I am working with Office 2010 and in save as - there is no option to save as MHTML or HTML. Any Clues?

Hi Guys, Isn't the new IPad just a massive version of the ipod touch? just with HD screen quality? To me it seems like a ipod touch for people with disabilities who need a bigger one! What are your thoughts?

Hi Guys, We have an Optima DS309 and a slight problem has occurred where the overheat light keeps showing up 10 seconds after turn on and cuts off the projectors light, fans and everything by the looks and sounds of it leaving just the overheat light on until it is reset and the same process will happen again. Originally we thought the bulb had gone as the bulb blew like they commonly do and naturally we have changed the bulb. I am thinking that maybe the projector has previously overheated but now the bulb issue is sorted, it still thinks there is a fault with it overheating, just like cars do with their engine management systems sometimes. Can anybody shed some light on this for us? In advance thanks for your help! Ollie

Hi Guys, Just a few questions I would like to ask about sky! 1. Do you know why they don't offer a cancellation fee option? We are prepared to pay this but they don't give the option. 2. What would happen if we just cancelled my direct? As I haven't recieved a direct debit guarantee, nor have I signed for anything. Thanks

Appologies about my stupid answer above about superstitions about touch wood, need to show a complex post on a forum for my course that I am doing.
-
I think he ment "touch wood" as in with him saying that he hasn't any problems yet, he hopes that with him saying this it won't trigger off problems. You're transfering the negativity into wood, which is a strong substance both physically and psychically. You're grounding it basically: like you would a live wire (and this maybe the only releavance into the subject rather than what was being said at the time. Some thick people tap on their head, but I wouldn't refer to my head as a lump of wood. At the time of the ancient druid culture in England, many moons ago. they believed in tree spirits; you would touch or knock on a tree and you woke the spirits and you somehow gained some of their power.

In my local sandwich shop, there is an advert in the window for an Xbox elite for £90 with 2 controllers and 3 kiddy games. Does this sound too good to be true?

Hi Guys, Please can people give me advice on how you feel on upgrading hardware or building computers without an anti-static wrist band and I would like some info on the threats of working inside computers without an anti-static wrist band. Also what methods do you use? Anti-Static mats? Anti-static wall plugs? Just the standard bands? Thank You in advance for your time.

The Peugeot is an 05 reg 2005 and the astra is a 54 reg 2005. I took the Astra out for a drive last night and I liked it, but everything about the car was more expensive so I have decided not to bother with the car tbh and stick with my peugeot. I am not going to get the corsa on finance. My insurance isn't due until april so I shall hold my horses and wait till the time comes where insurance is concerned. I didn't get a "for sure" answer off anyone though about when to change the cambelt? the 53,000 miles it has on it is purely just driving to wales and back every weekend on business. Can I work off the fact that the 1.4 HDI Citroen C4 Cam belt can be changed at 150,000 miles? Thanks
-
Hi Guys, Three Questions; 1. At the moment I have an 05 Peugeot 206 SW 1.4 HDI with 53,000 miles and I have been offered a straight swap with a Vauxhall Astra 1.6 petrol. The 206 has £35 a year road tax. They both have full service history and have been fully maintained throughout with no work to do on either of them (well as far as I can see on the astra). The astra has done 75,000 miles. They both have alloys! The astra is up at £3,995. Would you do the swap? 2. I last asked on edugeek about the cambelt change period on the above 206. Everyone replied with 50,000-60,000 miles but one mechanic said 80,000 and one mechanic said 150,000 miles. Who do I believe? can someone please put my mind to rest? The Citroen C2 1.4 HDI has the same engine as the 206 and I am confident (99.9% sure) that the interval is 150,000 miles; can I go off this? 3. Has anybody experienced the free insurance offer with Vauxhall Corsas? What do you think of it and would you (if you were me) keep the 206 and wait until next year to get the new style reg corsa on finance. I own the 206 out right. I will have around £5,000 to put down as a deposit and I am expecting my insurance to be £1,100 approx next year on my 206 as I am 18. I know they aren't computer questions but I am not abusing the system as I am always asking computer questions :-) Thanks

I tried putting windows 7 on a Fujitsu Siemens laptop over the weekend which is a year old, and the wireless card isn't compatible with windows 7. I have also put windows 7 on a 4 year old laptop and it works perfect. Wouldn't you have thought it would have been the other way around?

Hi Guys, I am having trouble with such a simple sounding problem but it doesn't seem to be as simple as simon to be honest. Powerpoint files are trying to open in word, and right clicking and changing the open program doesn't change it for good for some reason. Has anybody seen this before? It seems to be something to do with the network more than the files themselves. Thanks
