I'm a scruff. Always have been, always will be. Even in shirt and tie I'm a scruff. Still got me the job though, and I was competing with some who had gone the whole hog with their outfits. If a company is worth their salt they'll employ you based upon your skills/abilities/experience and not what you look like.

I think the only way to improve that is to use insane amounts of gaffer tape to attach the projector to the roof rather than bolting it on!

Since we run into this sort of problem yearly with a review on "what do you do?" we've created a system where we jot down just exactly what we've just done after we've done every job, no matter how small. I know this won't help you now, but it sure will help us come the next review.

The problem is, it won't stop anything and even then a lot of the time they'll be chasing up false leads. For instance, I quite often purchase 12" Vinyls and have a huge collection. I buy them from various online shops, most of which use mp3 clips to promote the track itself (so I can hear a clip before I buy). If they see me downloading those mp3s, quick! Arrest him, he must be illegally downloading mp3s! (Despite the fact I usually purchase said 12" version of it straight after). If they blanket block mp3s, I won't even be able to purchase more for my collection (since I won't know what i'm buying) so it will do even more damage to their sales (and likely said webshops will go out of business, leaving only the highstreet shops standing). MSN Messenger has a similar annoying anti-mp3 policy, if you send a file and the reciever clicks the link to the downloaded mp3, MSN attempts to delete it (a stupidly flawed system, but you can see what I mean!). This is extra annoying because I produce music myself and am in constant contact with various other producers, and we quite often share our music between each other. Even if they were forced to police the web for 'mp3 downloaders' they'dd only discover it'dd be impossible to police. Quite frankly the BPI need to shut up and stop threatening ISP's and get off their LAZY ARSES and actually hunt down the major DISTRIBUTORS (not downloaders) of illegal mp3s and bust them themselves, rather than get someone else to do their dirty work. But they'll only run into the same problem anyone else will. The recording industry has always had this stupid fascination with piracy. They tried copy protecting CD's. That worked well didn't it? How about stopping casette tapes being copied? Yeah right. Whatever the next medium will be, you can be sure the Movie/Record industry will be keen to tear it down, despite the fact that ultimately if they used the medium sensibly they can score more sales than ever. They need to stop threatening the consumer, or blaming the latest medium but instead chase down the pirates themselves, the ones who make the illegal copies, good luck at doing that though!

I was a graduate, I started on 12k, moved up to 15k. Don't see my prospects for getting anywhere close to TEACHER starting pay happening any time soon, let alone above that mark. Fair pay? Where's the fair pay for us underpaid fools who slave round the clock to make the lives of Teachers even more easy?

More serious than you might think. I'm pretty certain that I'm going to go deaf this way at some point because I'm pretty much exposed to (loud) sound all the time (typically buzzes, walking underneath school bells while in the corridor does fun things to my ears too, plus I produce music in my spare time which will be the biggest factor to my deafening!). Other people who I know who live similar lifestyles have gone this way. So I would certainly raise the issue of going deaf =P

EJay may be 'EVIL' but its EASY to use/learn. Audacity is good for splicing up samples, but not good as a sequencer (EJAY is a simple sequencer), a better editor is Sound Forge, but that comes with a price tag. Want to go the whole hog? Cubase for PC. Logic for Mac. Although I'm hearing good things about sonar... But for what you want to do I think your best bet is Ejay + Audacity, Cubase and Logic is stepping deep into the realm of music production, and is far more advanced than just sequencing samples. However none of this software is web-based, such sequencers that ARE web based that also allow you to SAVE off your stuff are few and far between... I'll scream Ejay once more because it sounds pretty much exactly what you want. Has loads of loops, you can import your own and you can save off your work. People might not like it because its simplistic and isn't designed for real music production (like cubase or logic), but it does the job.

Actually, in his defence he's doing his job. You might not be into 'adolescent nonesense', but you'll find that a lot of 'adolescents' actually tune into his show and ask for said shout outs, because they WANT to. In this respect he's hitting his target audience, of which you're not a member of. I don't know what your tastes in music/entertainment are, but chances are if you like classical you're not going to listen to Pete Tong and theres just as much likelihood that theres others out there that don't like classical and think that such 'drivel' should be taken off the air. You can't please everyone, he's hitting a specific target audience. What you think of said target audience though is another matter, the man is just filling his job role

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but BSF seems like it will have a negative impact on schools that already have very good ICT Support. Here is a trivial example from a small aspect of my job. How many times have any of you been pulled into a lesson because a student is having a problem doing something on a computer and the teacher does not know the answer to their problem either? The teacher needs assistance. Who is the most knowledgeable person in the building when it comes to computers? That would be us. We end up educating both the student and the teacher since our expertise is on the technical aspect of computing whereas the teachers expertise is in that of Teaching. We directly aide in the teaching of their lesson, and help improve the continued professional development of the staff of the school. The teachers know enough to teach their subject, but occasionally they are met with technical issues that they have no knowledge of. By assisting the teacher and the student with such problems as they arise we help address gaps in knowledge that are simply impractical to cover in mass training sessions or by email responses. While this example is quite trivial, can BSF still provide the same level of service with an outsourced third party management? Or will it be days before the student and teacher find out exactly what went wrong? Will someone be able to show and direct the student and teacher? Or will the issue ever get reported in the first place because it'll be "too much hassle?" We have a direct and positive impact on Teaching and Learning in more ways than one, and unless BSF can maintain an equal or superior quality of service to that of what is already provided in-house, schools which have existing excellent IT Support will suffer.

Well if the town you live in gets mentioned on live TV/Radio something tends to click and make you listen, so those who were tuned into Radio 1 likely heard it, but I would imagine most of the attendees would've found out via the Internet since a more identifiable address would've been posted there.

I discovered that typing 'Chernobyl' into google reveals some incredible results on the first page... Science recently pointed out to me the dangers of searching for 'optical illusions' in google image search too... Unfortuanately we can't block it because the school actually use it as a major school resource, so we end up having to block individual items as and when they get found -_-;;;

Defo don't think Pete Tong is to blame for this. Besides, this isn't the first time something like this has happened, imagine the turnout they'dd have got if they advertised on facebook too!

Systematically go through your SERVICES and disable (stop) them one by one until you (hopefully) stumble across the service thats hogging your CPU. Edit: If you want to narrow it down a bit more, you can type Tasklist /SVC into a command window and it'll tell you what services the process is running. SVCHOST is a hook for some types of services to run upon, hence why its possible to see about a bajillion of the damn things running. Let us know how you get on.

Like others have said, Asbestos removals usually seal off an area entirely (unless they're cowboys, in whichcase you can probably take comfort in the fact that they'll die of some lung related disease when they get a bit older! Karma at it's finest). Proper Asbestos removals take Health and Safety very seriously because it's their line of work to basically remove something that is harmful to Health. IF the entire school is officially shut to everyone (not just to teachers), then don't come in, but if they're only working in a specific area and they're sealing it off you should be quite okay. But this is generally from experience, what actual legislation says I don't know. But funny you mention this, I've walked into work before and it's been a surprise to see the Asbestos guys in!

That's the classic method for resolving any sort of language related issue. We occasionally have students fiddle with our printers and change the language settings on them. That said, I do know the Kanji for 'English' so if they attempt Chinese/Japanese their plan will be foiled!

My honest advice is this: LOOK AT THE GAMES. I've not bought a 360 OR a PS3 and I'm quite an avid gamer. The reason being is that none of the games on either platform impress me enough to actually want to purchase either console. If there's games on either console that warrant your purchase then go for it, otherwise there's no point in getting a console just for the sake of getting one. What kind of games do you like?

Students tend to switch keys around on the keyboards all the time, although I've yet to see a combination that truely impresses me, such as converting a qwerty to a dvorak.
