I've had this happen to me before, a classic way to render a machine utterly useless.

Well, they did manage to convince a politician to try and legally ban CAKE (a made up drug) :D

Your first link is DEAD due to ... in the middle. If it's what I think it's about, then I'm off snapping away. Just try stopping the tourists taking photos in London, I think it might just dent tourism just a wee little bit. You're right though, you can legally take a photo ANYWHERE in the UK provided the people in it aren't shot with an expectation of privacy (that is to say, taking a photo of a random person on the street is legal, but barging into their bathroom while they have a shower isn't), that it's not of a railway property (old law that never got removed) and some very specific landmarks in London. Although it would be quite sad if the Government try to blanket all photography under Anti-Terrorism, that'll be going the way of China when it comes to media control.

We have special accounts setup for anyone who has a DDA requirement, so we have absolutely no problem with killing magical keys like this.

If youtube was unblocked here it'dd be loads of bandwidth up the shoot as soon as kids realise. Not to mention i'll be watching every episode of Charlie Brookers Screenwipe back to back, and god knows what the rest of the staff would be doing, it'dd be the most non-productive unblock ever

Heh, schools don't take ICT Staffing seriously. Here I'm being moved off to something else (as HBJB said above) and being replaced by a part timer (HAH!). I will likely be too busy to help HBJB any more, plus I'll probably have my hands so full i'll need more staff myself! They should really be hiring in another two fulltime techs

I'm sorry, I can't let that comment stand. So you've heard 'bad things' about them such as? Where've you heard this from? I've never had a problem with them and I've been using them for over 8 years and my sites have had virtually no downtime. Their support is top notch and their prices are awesome. Do you have actual evidence to support your claim or is what you say unsubstantiated? I'm curious to find out what's bad with them, they're the BEST web hosting company I've ever used hands down.

I don't know if I'm entitled to a free eye test or not, though I probably should find out if I'm going blind or not! Also, I work in a Dorset school WITCH, so I'll be interested to find out what you figure out.

From experience Dreamhost provide a fantastic setup and are excellent service too. Their current offer is 500gb of storage (which increases by 2GB weekly), 5TB of monthly bandwidth (increases by 4gb weekly) and an insane amount of features including PHP, mysql and Email. all for a really low price too. I highly recommend them!

So with all that raw power harnessed, how many decimal places of PI will they calculate?

I could never download a TB of mp3s. That said, I buy all my audio on 12" vinyl....

I love this drama purely because the guys running the pirate bay just don't give a damn

If you have PHP: <?php readfile("somedoc.txt"); ?> If you want to do this in STRAIGHT HTML (no serverside stuff needed) you could use regular frames: or for the uber hack: rename the .txt to .htm!! or, you MIGHT just be asking for a simple thing like how to link to other documents rather than show the document on a .htm, to do this you just use a hyperlink like so: Some Description Here

I know a few teachers who just surf the internet during the lessons, I know because I get sent loads of random LOLCat images from them

things kids do that you shouldn't really laugh at but do,

Hell no, do you realise how much work that'll generate? And the ridiculous amount of phone calls? -
Currently: Word Documents, Powerpoints, a highly edited Mp3 and the key for the wireless in a text document The contents of the stick change depending on need!

Desktop backgrounds cannot be changed and the desktop itself is read only here for all staff, so they really can't pull that one -
While they do post all these 'safety guidelines' they're still enabling (almost encouraging?) their users to post their personal details for all to see, and users still do. The guidelines are all there to be read, but what proportion of our kids read it, and of those who do how many of them actually take in the guidelines and protect themselves?

If you're directing that to me directly, I have a BSc in Computing and know way too many programming languages including Java, (Visual) BASIC, PHP, PERL, C/C++, ASM and more besides. I've coded games that have been played by huge numbers of people on the Internet yet I work in a School, while I have a great deal of advanced technical skills on paper my status looks like this: Single White Male, Graduate Student. Status is everything. Go figure.

I don't think this is even about how much teachers earn, but more about how little we earn and the sheer difference between our colleagues. I once quizzed a few teachers: "How much do you think I earn?" They were actually surprised by the actual answer, some were even shocked. To them, we are earning the same as they are, but it's simply not true as we all know. Our pay is the real theft, we are scraping the barrel in terms of salaries and it's sad to say it but the only real way to progress in Education in terms of pay is to train as a Teacher, become a teacher then work your way up to Head Teacher. Or as an alternative, flee Education altogether and go into industry. Which is the easier option? At any rate, I'm not angry about how much teachers earn, but more about how little we earn. Everyone needs money, but it seems we're not getting any more when the rest of the world is!

So does Windows ME. Not all Operating Systems are as good/bad as each other, some are more stable/usable than others.
