  1. Is this only happening in Chrome? We have a user where this happens only in Chrome. Works fine in Edge, but they would prefer to use Chrome. From what I understand, Chrome uses a built in spellcheck feature where as Edge uses the system spellcheck. At the minute we are suspecting it is a filtering issue for us as the user says it works from home....

  3. Are you actually able to change registrar of sch.uk domains do you know? I was under the impression this was one of the 'protected' TLDs like .gov.uk is.
  4. I believe Nominet is the registrar for all the .sch.uk domains. You can send them a letter signed by the head teacher to get management access to it which then provides access to sign post to the nameservers you want to use (Nominet doesn't provide a DNS service for the domain). In my experience with Norfolk LEA schools, it's been the county council who have provided DNS services for the domains. As a MAT we took over full management of this and migrated it to our own DNS servers.

  6. I dont really understand why Network or IT Manager is now inappropriate and why the restructure is even needed. Even though the servers are moving in to cloud, surely they will still be responsible for the software administration of these cloud servers and still manage the physical network on site that you cant get away from.. Unless the whole network/server administration side is being outsourced and you only need someone to look after the end user equipment?
  7. I ended up flattening the server and re-installing fresh. Unfortunately meant that all clients had to come back on site to get a group policy update, but so far so good! I'll keep this TLS issue in mind should the issue re-surface. Thanks
  8. Sounds like a subnet mask issue somewhere and you have gone from a mask of 255.255.255.0 to 255.255.248.0. Would suggest checking your DHCP to make sure clients are getting configured with the new subnet mask.
  9. Just to throw it out there too, there is also the MS Insights Team app which you can make available to users and provides various data analysis. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/class-insights
  10. Hi all Has anyone come up against limitations/capacity with number of simultaneous connections in DirectAccess? All of our staff laptops are configured to use DA and we are having a lot of staff say they are unable to connect. Looking at the client status, I can see that some clients can connect but I never see the number of simultaneous connections rise above around 15 whic has made me wonder about server capacity... Has anyone else had capacity issues with their setup? We have one VM for DirectAccess which has a single NIC

  13. I hoped that might have been enough to satisfy SLT, but unfortunately they want to present items which are outside of Chrome :/
  14. We do have Teams available and they have the ability to record meetings etc and can upload to Streams. Seems more of a preference that the Head is hell bent on using Loom unfortunately Thanks. Have already whitelisted those but unfortunately still doesn't work Such an annoying application and clearly not developed with the understanding of the difficulties of getting this working in education managed networks. For example I hate that by default it installs in to the users appdata folder and that there isn't an installer available to install for all users. (I know there is a workaround to copy and run it out of a shared folder, but still). It has led to users discovering and installing this app during previous lockdown and embedding it in to their future contingency plans before IT were even aware of the desire to use it. One of our Head's continues to stamp up and down for us to get this working. Doesn't help either that the DfE appears to recommend this app
  15. Has anyone else managed to get Loom fully working in their environment? We have been struggling with it for a while now on two counts. Main issue we have right now is the upload portion of the process where the upload progress bar just hangs. I did a packet capture from home (where it works without issue) and can see that it wants to connect to a large number of IPs and ports relating to AmazonAWS. How have you gone about whitelisting AmazonAWS? Second, in our environment we redirect the users home folder which includes the My Videos folder to the network. Loom uses this to temporarily store the video until upload. We have been seeing issues where the audio is out of sync. When the My Videos folder is local, we dont see this issue. Anyone else seeing this?

  19. Congrats!
  20. Salamander will extract data from your MIS for whatever classes, form groups etc you want creating. It compiles this into a CSV and then uploads to school data sync. Be aware though in the past week Microsoft have recently changed what gets created automatically (due to recent load) so only the office 365 group will be automatically created from the sync and not the Team. This is easily overcome though as you have the option to generate the Team from the o365 group via the admin centre. Salamander doesn't conflict with AD connect.
  21. We are using DirectAccess which allows school devices to automatically create a VPN connection back to the school network. This then allows us to use a range of options - ABTutor, RDP, remote control via SCCM.
  22. Thanks all. I mis-read the email the first time. After re-reading it does imply that the password is unique to each school! My bad!
  23. Just to add to this thread.... today I have just read an email from AQA asking for all media to be sent by encrypted means, however, using a pre-defined password that is common knowledge for all exam centres. This seems risky to me due to the password being common knowledge amongst so many centres/schools/colleges. In my view they have made this move purely to ease their operation (probably had complaints from moderators regarding accessing protected media and managing multiple passwords) and have opted for something that weakens data protection. What are peoples thoughts on this??
  24. Hi Smarties, I looked at this exact same issue not so long ago. In the end I found a really good powershell script by Mick Pletcher (see below link) that extracts the updates from the distribution folder where SCCM puts the office 2016 updates, uniquely renames them with the KB number, and then places these in to the "updates" folder of the Office 2016 source folder. All you need to do after running it is update the package from the source files! It is possible to automate all of this too. https://mickitblog.blogspot.com/2016/06/powershell-automatically-populate.html
  25. +1 for the wisesoft tools. I have used these for a number of years now.
