thats becuase it was setup by James and one server (plus he just does things without and testing). i setup an entire school pretty much running on it (web servers, Virtual hosts using KVM plus file servers and and backup using Backup PC radio stations and it worked flawlessly. the only bug bear of the network was Exchange which if i was still there would be replaced with with Google Apps/Office 365 or Zimbra. Plus Viglen + Linux was never going to work

Thats the info I'm after. Linux Web servers are so much easier to backup then this Sharepoint thing (and a hell of a lot less complicated.)

I don't have DPM to hand. Rather after information on just backing up the SQL etc. Would a copy of the SQL database and a copy of the Web server Extensions folder suffice for example

Air server for windows I believe has this control. is cheaper them apple tv's

As horrible as Sharepoint is I'm looking for some best practices for backing it up. I know you can backup through the Central Administration console to a remote directory which is fine and I am more then happy to do that - is there a better way to do it? Also can this be set to automatically backup rather then manual? I will be veeam replicating the server to external DR site but need an alternate method to backup this up if possible.

I would install the HP Raid software and get some diag reports from this. If needs be send them over to HP to inspect or post them up. It will normally give you some warnings. Another thing to check is that the Raid array's firmware is up to date. Some HP Firmwares have bugs which report degraded drives and there isn't one.

You will need to create an MSI for it. There is freeway apps available which will do this for you such as Win Installer LE.

TBH it sounds like the router has blocked outbound access from the IP you had for some reason? I see this occasioanlly on Watchguard Firewall/Wireless boxes. Normally a restart of the router fixes the issue but i doubt the issue is with the laptop if it will connect at home.

Yes - as we already had the server to run it (can also be run in a VM) and using SIP trunks instead of ISDN we didn't require additional hardware for the server (as in ISDN cards etc). I got 36 @~£89 x Yealink T28p and 36 @~£56 x Yealink T20p. With the ability to Auto Provision these Yealink Handsets easily - see my other post regarding that took about 20 mins for all phones and plugged them in and they configured themselves. These phones also come pre packed with a Power Supply if POE isn't available whereas with a lot of the other phones you have to buy them seperatly. For Failover and ease of setup rather then setting up the phone system with a PSTN failover in the event of sip/power failure we got a PSTN line installed in the Admin office Otherwise we would of had to run half the school on UPS's

2. Don't do that to your exchange server otherwise you are giving yourself more headaches! Another thing to check though is that you have a Global catalog server. Exchange won't start without one (under AD sites and services expande the site and server then NTDS settings.) Although this wouldn't affect DNS. 3. Check in the DNS is the old DC is still listed as a name server. Also in AD if it is mentioned there as a DC (would have to be removed via ADSI edit).

If you set the servers to DHCP temporarily can you ping hostnames? Also try doing nslookup servername dnsserverIP is the DNS client service started?

Just to update this: Res Hyperdrive looks good although unfortuantly it requires all the data to be sat on a virtual appliance. therefore removing any legacy access via the normal share access. Waiting to trial AppSense Datanow at present although have registered.

I'm not sure what version of Zimbra the LA run but I have found Zimbra very easy to administer (easier then Exchange). I would like to see the costings for Zimbra in Education but Exchange is what £70pa of an EES agreement?
