This is my main gripe against Apple kit for the consumer - they think windows is cr*p because they run it on a £300 laptop but OSX is actually amazing because they run it on a £1500 machine. use a machine that runs windows and costs £1500 (X1 Carbon, T440s etc) then compare the two.

This does the trick - save it as a batch in the root share folder (it needs your folder structure to be \\server\share\Username) for /d %%1 in (*) do echo y|cacls %%1 /t /g %%1:F administrators:f "domain admins":f system:f "teaching staff":r Essentially it looks at the folder name and then tries to assign permission to a user of that name with full control (the :f) then administrators full control, Domain Admins full control, System full Control and teaching staff Read only (the:r)

But as others have said - during times of cuts what has been the priority for the NHS - upgrading from XP or funding saving lives? It is probably cheaper for the gov to pay 5.5m a year than it is to buy up to date licenses!

What sort of specs are you talking?

I agree they do tend to do strange things with a Keyboard - but i am now used to how the keyboard is layed out and it doesn't bother me.

In terms of build quality the Lenovo X1 carbon is up there with the Macs - although very sturdy not as strong as the metallic Macbook

It happens all the time - I could setup a server and send emails supposedly from your domain name. It is probably that somebody has got a list from somewhere with the old email address's on it and started automating spam outbound. it could however be that a machine has been infected and a list of addresses harvested from ad if for example a domain admin has logged into it.

sounds like they have a dns record internally pointing the wrong way. This isn't an uncommon setup and i see issues like this all the time.

I have an E420s which work provided - anything from there range which is over 400 quid tends to be excellent quality. They bought the IBM range of laptops and took it out to the consumer, infact they also just took over Iomega and are also going to be taking IBM's thinkserver range I believe
