Understood. Splinter groups/not sanctioned/not truly part of Islam. That's what most have been saying been saying I think you misunderstood. I was talking about Islamic terrorism and it's similar theme to the crusades not retaliation for the current war in the Middle East. I'm trying to be as balanced as I can but there comes a point when I just don't understand why it's happening any more. HBJB

Really? The Christian Crusades were about enforcing Christianity upon people. Isn't Islamic terrorism a modern version of the Crusades? The other major difference is that the IRA did at least give some form of a warning about their bombs. This new "enemy" does not and targets all and sundry just because we may not believe the same things as them. OK so most religions have had their turn at trying to wipe each other out but somehow this is more sinister. In days of old (when the world didn't know any better) at least you knew your enemy. They had flags, coats of arms and were usually chucking stuff down at you from a castle on a hill. HBJB

We bought 50 odd machines from them recently and they bent over backwards to help us out even down to supplying us with an advance machine so we could image it in advance of the main delivery. We've not had a single one go wrong yet so I can't vouch for their after sales service but if their pre sales is anything to go by then I suspect it'll be good. HBJB

... and not just for you !! That being said, in my first year I got pneumonia (twice) after getting a cold/cough and also a most annoying and painful case of shingles. Since then not a lot other than colds etc. Hygiene is paramount in a place full of spluttering kids that seem incapable of using a handkerchief. HBJB

Presumably if they are acting as the ISP for local schools RM dictate our IP range and I still don't know why exactly. I assume it's so they can snoop on us if they want. Internet is the only thing we use from RM (apart from SuccessMaker) and that's only because our LEA forces it upon us. It took over a month to get a new range organised when we wanted to go from 1024 to 2048 addresses! We had to use an entirely different range when in theory, if they didn't have control over it, we could have just changed the subnet to 255.255.248.0 etc. We had two ranges before we merged networks (one for admin and one for curriculum) and it was a nightmare getting all of our open ports changed to the new range since we had to put in a request for each one and then wait weeks for them to get changed. We also had to make sure that the old ranges and port forwarding were still functional until we joined the networks. HBJB

I've just had 40 minutes with an inspector along with a couple of other people and one newer member of staff decided to had an indirect pop at me by saying he'd not received a username to get on the system. I know this to be false and can prove it but I couldn't argue with him in front of the inspector. It's funny but today were getting calls from all over the place about little things that we wouldn't normally be bothered about like plugging speakers into a PC for a member of staff. HBJB

£12.95 for a spliiter/amplifier v £14 for a splitter cable that leaves a ghost image. We had exactly the same problem and now we use only powered spliiters from Ash Distribution HBJB

I work in an all girls school and we've had about £800 worth of damage in about 5 weeks (since we've been totaling up the costs). Someone even pinched the memory out of one of our HP laser printers. Generally mice stolen, ripped apart, pins bent (why do they have to remove them in the first place?), Keyboards with missing keys, cables cut thought with scissors (I'm waiting for a power lead to be snipped ), graffiti and general student ignorance. And the staff swear blind that it's never done in their lessons. HBJB

Can you not just use the FMS Database selector tool? Maybe this doesn't work if the databases are located on different servers but it works fine for us where two versions are on the same server. HBJB

I've never had a problem. Some switches take a minute or so to fully boot up again so don't worry if it looks like there's no connectivity straight away. It's not as if they give you much choice about pulling the plug. With most switches there's only the mains lead and at best an on/off switch. Some of our switches give you the option to reboot in the management consol but not to shutdown. HBJB

Nah, but your insurance does. We had a lightening strike a year or two ago on our field and it took out 3 important switches (fibre uplinks). Our insurance company just told us to go ahead and replace the switches. We managed to get our backbone upgraded to gigabit and about 10 new gigabit 3com switches (to make the new fibre fully gigabit across the school). We were upfront with the insurance company and told them that although all of the switches we were replacing were not necessarily needed as part of the claim, it would help if they all talked at the same speed. They said "OK then - if you need it, do it". 'Bout time we had another thunderstorm HBJB

We've had similar problems with the E-17 series monitors. Out of 20 we purchased I've had to get 13 replaced. I wouldn't mind if the company who does all of theie exchanges actualy kept them in stock and the swap out was quick but this seems not to be the case and we've had to wait up to a couple of months to get them swapped. They even managed to loose all trace of one and refused to replace it. I've been buying other makes up till my last batch of 53 PCs which have the tough screen (not glass). Let's see how these work out. I'm only just deploying then now so haven't had any faulties yet. Nice monitors while they work. HBJB
