Because it's true. The industry needed reform and modernisation but it could have still been viable.

I am not for a minute suggesting Labour didn't get things wrong in their time and as a socialist they were painful to watch as they abandoned all left wing policies freely! What I am saying is that people seem to think prior to that all was great and good - I am just pointing out the Tory government of Thatcher and Major did nothing but harm to the country.

Oh yes - Thatcher fixed loads of problems - just ask the miners! Speak to the vast number of people in the areas where generations have never worked because of the industries she ran into the ground and/or sold off! Wasn't 1987 the year of the biggest stock market crash ever in the UK? Thatcher did what all Tories do - made sure the well off were better off and the poor were poorer!

  11. Do you know if the prices are the same for Cumbria - I would guess so but just checking.
  12. Speak to LUNS as they seem to be offering direct services now they don't have the CLEO contract. Robin Williams is the guy I've been speaking to.
  13. Well worth talking to Robin Williams at LUNS – Lancaster University Network Services They used to have the CLEO contract and are excellent people to deal with and highly skilled. Whenever we had issues once we got passed the CLEO people and talked directly to LUNS it was always resolved. I've just had a very good quote from them to supply us with an unfiltered 100Mb fibre service with some public IP space and it was excellent.

I'm pretty sure as a "very senior bod in a very large consultancy firm" you are more than capable of conveying the reality of BSF without swearing. There are many, many discussions, views and opinions on this very forum that do just that!

@psydii - do you think you could moderate your language on a professional forum please?
  24. We start everyone off with 500Mb but up it for students on request (mainly media or tech courses). They also have space on our share point VLE which is pretty well unlimited. Staff have whatever they need. I think 20Gb is about the biggest so far (not including departmental shared areas). Again they all have space on the VLE to.
  25. Just had the same message. That is flipping expensive!
