If that's the case then do YOU think it's slow? how are log on times etc, acceptable to everyone? If so you ARE effectively saying 'i just want one' and what you might want to look at is making the one you have more resiliant - as 3s-gtech says. Making a case for 'how poor the current server is' may be difficult if it is actually doing the job properly. Making a case for having a better redundant system and illustrating how bad the loss of that server would be should be much easier however. Perhaps push for a new server and use the current one as a backup? If they are willing to fork out, get something that already has gbit, raid, redundant PSUs etc, and though you can build them, I'd imagine the majority don't. And no - you can't jsut dump the HDD you have into raid, I'm sure you could achieve something with ghosting, but it'd be far better (IMO) to do a fresh install! RwD

Any of the multitude of 2D barcodes, yeah, never did brand names when I was looking at them Agree on the increased cost though... And into a text field on a web page would depend on what info you put on them - assuming you just want an asset number? RwD

And if you're going for a the camera phone option - it might be worth looking into 2d barcodes if you don't have existing ones (much higher fault tolerance depending on the endcoding, and easier for a camera to read....) RwD

Aye - long as you have a camera that outputs via composite. As a bonus - you can also use adapters to go from composite to jack to mic cable - meaning you can have huge runs of cable without needing to buy in a load of composite stuff you'll only use once. Just convert it back at the other end and it works fine (recently did this for a live video stream onto a projector from outside into the hall) RwD

Should work fine. 8400gs > dvi > HPL1950 8400gs > dvi to vga adapter > HPL1908 Set to extend desktop in windows, done! If there's no output on the VGA only monitor, then either the socket, cable, or adapter is duff, trial and error fault finding should then ensue! RwD

Insert CD, open media player, click the "copy from cd tab", tick the tracks you want to copy, and hit 'copy music'. In tools you can pick what you want them saving as, where you want them putting, and how you want them naming (tools > options > copy music) As long as quality is above 128Kb you should be fine... (This is media player 9 - It's what I've got to reference from, other versions are similar) RwD

Not bought one myself, but have occasionally had a chance to play with Lastolite stuff, and it comes hugely recommended on the net (David 'strobist' Hobby, Joe McNally etc) so I'd probably plump for one of those if I had the choice. RwD

Or if it starts to heat up and you're not done with data - if you've got some of those compressed air cans to waste, aim one of them at it for a bit, cools them down nicely while they're running (used that trick once to get a particularly large file off). You should also be able to dump it back in the freezer - so you might want to do smaller chunks of data rather than one large "copy everything at once" RwD

I have to ask why? While I'm not disagreeing with cheap cars making a lot of sense - what's wrong with people wanting a nice car? By that logic why would you ever buy a house with more rooms than you have family members, a computer that cost more than £500, or a cinema ticket instead of watching tv? I took a while to save up for my car, but driving is one of the things I enjoy, almost to the point of it being a hobby - so having a car that makes me grin like an idiot whenever I'm within 10 feet of it makes sense. Having re-read while I'm typing, I think it's because you're viewing driving as 'getting from a to b', as opposed to something enjoyable. Horses for courses though - you'll undoubtedly have more cash to spend on things you enjoy. to the OP - we demand pictures and a mini-review, nice choice! RwD

Have to say I'm biased here - but what about an A4 Avant. The 2.0t is nice and quick, doesn't drink toooo much, and there's enough room to use the back as a double bed! (back seats folded of course), might have to stretch the mileage a bit, but they tend to see mainly motorway use so last longer... RwD

I've got an E71 as well. Would reccomend it. Not had any major problems that weren't caused by a badly written app freezing up. battery life is decent, the keyboard is remarkably easy to type with given its size, and it does everything required! RwD

As for connecting to the speakers - if you plug cable (2) into socket (5) and get sound, it's unlikely that you'll be able to connect from the amp to the socket (5). The speakers are probably already powered, you'd need seperate ones which would have 4 terminals on the back for the wires... RwD

No real mention of the school there that stands out (unless i'm missing it) is this on purpose? And proper spelling etc "Don't get to gallous" I'm assuming should be "Don't get too jealous"? Gallous being an alternative term for gallows (used to hang people) Other than that - nice clear and simple, which is always good! RwD

Need to get out on my recently self-built trails/mountain bike more often - not had a chance to use it since i started work! nice purchases the both of you. RwD

As far as I can tell the company was set up and made normal yellow bikes for the local community and terrain - and was then contacted by a bloke who wanted bamboo frames - so at a guess they make both - the bamboo ones to export, and the yellow ones for the locals! RwD

Hmmm Now to persuade them to lay cable in my street. Have to say I seem to be the opposite from everyone here. Had VM 20Mb cable at uni, and only had one problem with it due to my bank breaking my direct debit. Phoned VM, got a very apologetic assistant who got rid of the black mark on my account, and said it should be back up within 24hours, but she'd try and do it quicker - literally 40 seconds after i hung up my housemate walked in and said the net was back up. I agree I don't like their traffic shaping, we just imposed our own traffic limits and shaping so we didn't go over them - thus ensuring the full 20mb all the time. As for high useage - we pulled down 1.8Tb in 5 months without them batting an eyelid. RwD

Yeah there are a few- saw a gorgeous RS4 yesterday on my way home on the M62, very droolworthy. I take slight pride in the fact that I've not seen any of the exact model round here. I shall be dissapointed and fitting gadgetry when i do! RwD
