Minimum spec is a good idea - some of the latter football manager games have modes where you can play the game yourself. This will obviously bump up the graphics. As for WOW and EVE - I wouldn't consider either of these to be demanding. Turn the effects off and they'll run on pretty much anything. I've had both on an MX440 64mb card before (at the same time, but that's another matter). It's the newer FPS / racing games that tax graphics. Laptop wise I'd be looking at something with a discreate ATi/nVidia card. I'll have a hunt later if I get the chance. RwD

I think you might be asking a little much there. It's all at least one generation old, you could put together an i7, 6Gb, Dual ati 5xxx for that kind of money these days, and probably double the performance. I'd be looking for a fair bit less if i was selling a similar rig. How have you got the two 1400 psus linked up by the way?

Exactly the same here - only with the addition of REALLY SLOW pc = punching the monitor. The faster suits don't get quite the same level of damage. We just got for not-the-cheapest-but-cheap stuff, and hope it holds out. A piont to note - keybaords that bend are likely to get bent and twisted... buy something a little more substantial and they usually last a bit longer. Glass fronted monitors are a must, but make sure it's hard for them to get pushed over - kids don't like being covered in shattered glass... RwD

Well we were using Censornet which, yes, is about as stable as a very unstable thing in high winds balancing on a large sphere rolling down a hill.... Now have Smoothwall and it's excellent. It is very feature rich but once you get used to where to find what you want, it has pretty mcuh anything you want - plus any feedback usually gets incorporated straight back into the product. It's also got the rather impressive flash filter, and is the only solution that's BECTA approved iirc from other threads. Used to use Smoothwall 1/2 at home, got several 200 day uptimes with that. Aye - not for everyone, but if you're willing to work round the faults then the plus points more than make up for it. It should all work if you get it unlocked, if you're getting one for free then you may as well try, failing that flog it and put the cash towards the payment for one from your provider. Also - Air Mouse Pro is possible the best application ever invented anywhere ever (just been playing about with it today to control the laptop in the hall when assemblies are on, means we can sit at the mixing desks at the back instead of standing at the front) Also knows what the window in focus is and provides you with the appropriate controls (play, pause, volume in media player etc) RwD

Nope - the 2200+ means it's equivalent to a Pentium 2.2Ghz. The max clock on them would be around 2.4Ghz on air, when REALLY pushed if I remember correctly. Wouldn't advise it on that board, you'd need it voltmodding. *edit* it wasn't tricking users, it was because people would buy the pentiums due to them having bigger numbers on the front. RwD

Hi, We're trying to pull off a report of people who have been temp banned on our Smoothwall box. I can get a list of the bans, group, and time, but it doesn't include the comments (which in our case is the reason for the ban). Is there an option I've missed or is this not possible? Taa, RwD

Heh sorry - that was mainly addressed at the Canikon arguements... But I agree - by the sounds of it, for what the OP wants, any budget SLR will do the job fine. RwD

All comes down to who's using it. If students - I'd suggest a 'fake' slr - along the lines of the Fuji Series. If you can trust the students, or it's for PR and teacher use then I'd go for an SLR. As everyone has said - it's the lens that matters, but for your budget you're probably going to end up with the stock one on whatever you buy, though most are pretty good. Pixel wise, I'd ignore the figure unless you're looking to do absolutely huge prints. There's little difference between Canon and Nikon aside from personal preference, Have a hunt round and see what you can find the best offer on and go with that, unless you personally will be using it a lot, then go and grab one of each and have a play with them in a store, they feel very different - for me the lower end Nikons feel hugely un-natural to hold, for one of my friends, my Canon feels far too small.... all personal preference.
