Indeed - the Beta was invite, and the origional service was invite only. Users who signed up then got ten more invites without having to pay. Then they opened it up to anyone, it got popular, so they restricted it again, so users with invites now are premium users (no ads, and the ability to use mobile clients) and peopel who had invites left over from the origional incarnation. I'm rather tempted by premium as aparently it will cache songs on your iPhone (and probably other deivces) and let you listen when you've no net connection - need to look into this a little bit though!

Probably referring to me there. But yeah - I've got a 3Gs, and comparing it to the Hero, I can see positives and negatives to both. Personally I'd go with the iPhone. The keyboard is that little bit nicer, and I don't like the chin that the Hero has, but I doubt you can go wrong with either. Battery life on both is similarly bad (you won't forget to charge it at night more than once!) Media is similar on both, with apps for flickr, facebook, emails etc. I think the Hero has a more customisable home screen, iPhones need jailbreaking to unlock similar features. As said - go into a store and play!

Might be a daft suggestion - but have you gone and manually found the newest drivers for your current laptop? 7 should have roughly the same performance as your XP install if done right...

After a bit of googling it seems the 5-pin connector is Dell only... solution - multimeter one of the fans (should be able to get a contact just inside the connector. Find 12v, spilce wires onto one of those 3 pin splitters - done! That way the Dell will still think it's got a proper fan plugged in (as aparently you have to hit F1 on boot if they don't) and you can splice on whatever fan catches your eye...

Ok, if you've got 4 pin connectors they'll probably be the 4pin PWM style ones. You can stick a 3 pin connector on there, set the fan speed to full in the bios, and they'll run fine. Just won't vary according to temperature. Bolt some normal 3pin case fans (120mm would be ideal, with some wire grills) to the locker, and plug one of the adapters I've linked to into the motherboard, connect locker fan to one output, and case fan to the other. Stick one on each motherboard header and that gives you your two useable outputs. If it's for use with the FilmIT system - as far as I can tell from their documentation - it can be any video camera, allowing you to find something better value / quality (potentially)

Hi, If you don't find a commercial solution I've a friend who spent a while recently writing face detection software for use with security cameras and live video feeds. It also identified faces from a datebase (allowing you to import some pictures of say, staff, who's photos you could still use, etc) I'm sure he'd be able to adapt it to do what you require. I've found superglue can be fairly easy to break, if this is for a security reason - I'd go with epoxy, as long as you don't mind it NEVER coming off (or at least, having to destroy the hub and sand down whatever surface you stuck it to). If you don't want a bond strong enough to stick mountains together (they're totally held together with epoxy resin... honest...) then I'd find hubs with a built in cable, that way you can superglue / stickypad them, and also cable tie the cables down, providing the USB hubs with a little leash... The sticky pads for car numberplates can usually be levered off with a little force - and we all know what kids are like! Might be worth trying to find some extra strong ones if you go this route.

Aye - I really like it but as OutTolunch said - they're properly free for business use, a fact I'd forgotten as I only ever have cause ot use them at home!

I've got an 8Tb home brew server at home running Windows Home Server. Would strongly recommend looking at that too - £60, automatic backups, ftp client, scheduling on/off times, web access, etc... Hardware wise just get something decent amp wise for the PSU - I'm running ten hard drives (2*80Gb, 8*1Tb) from a Corsair 550Watt. Using PCIe 4 port raid cards, as well as the onboard satas, and it'll happily read at 90mb/s. WHS also has the advantage of not needing to resync the entire array if it breaks, and easily letting you import and remove hard drives as needed, as opposed to a software RAID5 array which can be a bit terrifying. (On a sidenote, using 5 drives in RAID5 on server 2008 I never got over 20% CPU usage on a 2.2Ghz Core2Duo, so you don't need a huge amount of power. The Sharkoon Rebel12 case is also worth looking at, £60 when I bought it, base on the Coolermaster Stacker design, but with an extra 6 HDD bays on the bottom of the case. RwD

As I was lead to believe by an Apple man - you can use the Mini as a fully functioning server so yeah - provided you have enough storage space to hold the images, you can use it as the imaging server.

reimaging is a matter of holding down 'n' as they boot, and selecting the image you want (provided you have a server to dish the images out)

Yes to invoices afaik - we use them here too. Pretty good, and knowledgable about what they're selling when queried on whether certain models will work over others...

Previous tests were run at 1280, this time round we switched to 1024 with a setres script, made no difference as far as I can tell.
