  1. I outsourced this last year and it's one of the best decisions I've made. It's not particularly expensive, and you get 24/7 coverage (if you have any devices that go offsite) and knowledge that the people looking at this know what they're looking for, and have direct contact numbers for the people who can deal with it (DSL, Headteacher, CEOP etc). I've never thought that this level of safeguarding was the IT department's responsibility, and every company I've talked to about it agrees. By all means use Classroom cloud to hunt out the flash games or other time wasting sites, but I would ask yourself the question, if a serious case occurred, and the police and courts got involved, how comfortable would you be under that level of questioning and scrutiny?
  2. I had an email from Alan Mackenzie (e-safety adviser) yesterday morning that mentioned the following policy template: ICT Evangelist - AI Policy Template Only had a cursory glance, but might be helpful
  3. When trying to troubleshoot an S8 model Smoothwall, came across this odd message (attached). Slightly strange Easter Egg, not wholly appreciated at the time! For those that can't see the image, message reads: Mr Spock say: Live long and prosper

  4. I quite like ClassLink that can use a picture or 6 digit code as the 2nd Form Factor (Students login with their password, then choose a picture from a set of 16 or so), is anyone using this?
  5. @tom_newton My ticket ID is: 439726 Support went the iDex route, which I've installed and support has configured for me, so I'm back up and running now.
  6. 1:1 Chromebook devices for students is the reason I have a Cloud Filter! That part works perfectly. Also, teacher's remembering to turn the proxy on and off was a complete PITA, so I added the Cloud Extension to their Windows devices, which, up till a week ago, also worked very well. The vLan/Location filtering could work for onsite, but I suspect the original issue would rear it's head offsite. InTune is on my list to look at. If everything could work the way it's supposed to, I would have the time to implement it
  7. Thanks, the general setup of Smoothwall is fine, but there's been a change of behaviour to how our onprem Smoothwall talks to our Cloud Filter. If it's the case that the Cloud Filter can no longer be used with an onprem AD, that's not great and I'll need to push to Azure AD quicker than I'd like. Either that, or I remove the Cloud Filter extension from staff Windows laptops, and just use it on our Chromebooks. I just don't know if this was intentional from Smoothwall, or a bug introduced with Leeds-66.
  8. Thanks, but I'm not using Azure AD (yet), instead I'm just using an on-premise AD, which was all tickety boo until I updated to Leeds-66! @ibpalle any ideas?
  9. Having the same issue, I think after updating to latest version of Smoothwall (Leeds-66), apart from I'm not using Idex or Azure AD, just on-premise AD, which was working fine up until this point! Now all users of Windows devices are being mapped to the Default Users group. Out of interest, how did you put in the workaround, to use no extension when proxy is applied?
  10. The LGfL Online Safety Audit could be a good start
  11. Where can I download the application from? I'm having a lot of issues with the setup.exe installing into C:\Users...
  12. For that age range, maybe take a look at Kodu?
  13. Might be worth looking at AD Tidy, I think the free version can pull a list of Computer accounts and Last Logon.
  14. I don't have the solution, but would also be interested to know if it's possible!
  15. Hasn't that been removed? We were using that extensively back in September, but unfortunately I think they removed it October/November time.
  16. Sadly, I don't think we use it anymore, so how I had it setup has joined the mountain of software that I have implemented, managed then completely forgotten about!
  17. Tried to run the update at 4am and it failed.
  18. Aren't mechanical keyboards significantly louder than standard keyboards? Might be another factor to think about.
  19. Would also be very interested in more information on this!
  20. After watching Andor, I would have to disagree about Serkis!
  21. Sadly not, parents have to sign in with a generated username, but almost all systems autofill the username with the parent's email. I've had to deal with a fair few of these requests since launching MCAS last week!
  22. That's not good. Maybe your best bet for now is to try and limit the bandwidth available to the iPads/Student WiFi?
  23. Does the Smoothwall detect a spike in traffic? Also, have you updated your Smoothwall at all? I had an issue using the SFP port and moved to a standard network port which resolved a similar issue. I also wonder whether the iPads are talking to each other across your network, and this communication is causing spanning tree to kick in. Meraki has a NAT mode (all devices connecting to the SSID are effectively isolated from everything else on the network) which I put the Chromebooks on and this defintely helped.
  24. Sounds slightly similar to an issue I had not so long ago Do you have anyway of monitoring wireless network traffic? A measure I put in place that helped was to limit our Chromebooks bandwidth to Google Update, as whenever a ChromeOS update as released, all 700 devices would try to update, and as standard, updates were given top priority, so my network crashed. I would also look into restricting Apple Bonjour as much as possible.
  25. A Whole School Communications OneNote shared with all staff, seems to work pretty well.
